Even though WDW's policy on smoking and vaping is very clear--that it's to be done in designated areas only and never in a park or inside your room or on your room's balcony or in the resort hallways--I feel this bears some repeating.

I'm just back from 7 nights at AKL and on night one, someone nearby our room was smoking. I'm super allergic, so I noticed immediately. Unless this person had been on their balcony and I'd been able to see them from my balcony, I never would've known who it was or where they were. Reporting it is useless as you're calling a call center, and going to the front desk is similarly useless since they have no way of knowing where the smoker(s) is located. So, smokers, please, please, do not smoke in your room or on your balcony. Maybe you think no one will notice or care, particularly if you're outside, but you have no way of knowing who is nearby, how allergic they may be, etc., etc., etc. And in case you don't care about an adult's problems with this, please remember there are children at Disney. Lots of them.

Similarly, on the way back from the bus stop at AKL a couple of nights ago, I walked right by an adult (holding the hand of a child, btw), who was vaping and not even trying to hide it--not that hiding it would've been an improvement. The woman was just openly vaping, blowing the vapor into the air. She was not alone. There were other people going to and from the bus stop. As I walked by, I told her that there was a designated area for that and her response was to look away from me and blow her vapor into the air, seemingly saying I don't care what the rules are.

Please, people who smoke and/or vape--be considerate of others. Maybe to you it seems like it shouldn't bother anyone else when you're doing it outdoors, but, in fact, it does bother other people and many of those other people are children. Also, WDW has an actual policy about this. Don't do it. I realize there's an addiction going on here and that it's a very very difficult addiction to break. But there are designated areas. Use them. Thank you.

As a reminder, if you are found to be vaping or smoking in your room, or on the balcony of your room, and someone reports it, Disney will immediately evict you from the resort and charge you with a cleaning fee that is in the hundreds of dollars. You will not receive any kind of a refund for the days that you have remaining on your reservation and you will be charged the cleaning fee on top of that.

Disney takes in room smoking very seriously. It doesn't take a guest to report it either. Staff is obligated to report violations to the smoking policy as well. It also doesn't matter if you have a ground floor room and move off the patio area.

Guests can simply report that they saw someone smoking and the Disney Housekeeping manager and staff will monitor the situation checking for violations. There are no warnings and no second chances.

If you do smoke or vape please be sure to do so in the designated areas. It is simply not worth taking the chances of negatively impacting your vacation.

Honestly, the people who smoke/vape where they aren't supposed to know they are doing it where they aren't supposed to. They do it because they don't care how it affects others. They are rude, jerks and aren't going to stop or be considerate. I smoked, I know the addiction aspect but I also knew how to be polite to others and most importantly follow rules. Addiction is no excuse to do whatever you want.

AngiTN--As always, you've nailed the essence of this issue. It just really annoyed me this past week--an otherwise wonderful week, including RotR two days in a row!

I've reported smokers at the lodge before. Last trip the hall had a strong smell of cigarette smoke and our room was close to the stairs. I'm a lung cancer survivor and 2nd hand smoke makes me need my rescue inhaler. I'm so happy that smoking/vaping is no longer allowed in the parks!

It is so hard to believe looking back now, that WDW,just a few short years ago, actually had SMOKNG ROOMS with the little cigarette sign on the door!

The years just seem short! :)

I wish I had better known the rules. On our last night at AoA Cars Suite Bldg 3, I was coming up the exterior stairs near Sheriff, when I walked directly into a man with a cigar and a woman with a cigarette on floor 2. I was proceeding up to floor 3.

They were leaning on the railings looking towards the Nemo building with the Seagulls. I quickly got passed them and my wife could still smell it on me as I got to our room. I didn't think it was right, but I'm not a smoker so I didn't know. I wish I had seen this thread before then!

At POP. Where we usually stay. I always enjoy a cigar while the wife and kids get to sleep. There is so many places out and about to enjoy a cigar, there is no reason to do it where you aren’t supposed to. I like the bench(s) near the lake. Out of the way and close to our room also.

You can just about bet that anytime you are on private property there are smoking restrictions, specific areas where smoking is allowed, not allowed everywhere else. Not 100% but more often than not. Public property is a different story.

Honestly you should have gone to the desk just to report it. If more people had done maybe they could have figured out who was doing it. So sorry it happened to you!

A few months back, my DS12 and I were heading on the path from Crystal Palace over to Adventureland when I smelled cigarette smoke. We then saw two adults with a small child in tow who were literally walking through MK smoking. I really wanted to say something, but I bit my tongue as I just didn't feel like getting into a confrontation with other guests. I just had to hope a CM stopped them at some point as they made their way through Adventureland. I also once encountered a guest smoking in the FP+ line at SDD. Thank goodness a maintenance CM walked by and quite angrily told him to stop.

I'll be interested to see what the picture is like when we visit at the end of the month. We felt that there was a big increase in the number of smokers smoking where they liked in the parks when we visited in January. We said at the time that we wondered if the abolition of the designated smoking areas meant that more folks were happy to ignore the 'no smoking' policy and just light up wherever.

August 2017 it was raining at HS. DS 21 and I were sitting under awning at Starbucks with many others. Lady sits next to us and lights a cigarette. I just nicely said this is a bon smoking area- she didn’t say a word and put out. Honestly I’f have found CM if she hadn’t. I understand they cut areas for smokers but they did for a reason.

Was that marked as a designated smoking area? If not, you should not have smoked there.

This. Which is why, even though the OP felt it would be futike, they still should have reported it. The call center CM can and will contact the resort.

Making them different from pretty much every other hotel, how, exactly? Heck, before there were smoking room and non-smoking signs on doors, smoking was allowed in every room.

Interesting. Didn't the no smoking rule go into effect this pay May?

Pop has a lot of DSAs, including seven along Memory Lane. There are benches all along the path. It's more than likely that the quoted poster is aware of both the existence and location of the DSAs and was smoking in an authorized location.

Sadly, most of the walkway along the lake is a smoking area.

I haven’t seen an increase in the number of people smoking cigarettes, but lots and lots of vaping.
