Just wanted to mention that if you all haven't seen the new policy from the Webmasters, to please read it. I realize that we really don't have a lot of issues with these posts on the DVC boards, but I did want to bring it to your attention, as a few of our regular DVC posters may need to adjust their signatures, and perhaps they haven't gotten over to the DIS Community Board, yet. :)

Wow, I haven't seen any political or religious discussions. I'm not a big fan of telling people "God Bless You" and such, but I sure hate to be told that I can't say this, or I can't put it in my signature.

Did someone just get back from the American Athiests convention or something?

EDIT: I hit edit instead of quote. This post has been restored to its original content. - Chuck

As I said, we really haven't had those types of posts on the DVC boards, but everyone needs to be aware of the DIS-wide rules, and some posters may need to adjust their sigs and avatars.

If you'd like to make comments or ask questions about the policy, please do so in the thread on the CB. - Thanks.

Thank you for the update; I'll update my signature immediately.

Mississippian -- obviously it cuts both ways.

Such posts would be off-topic and removed on the DVC Boards anyway, as Chuck already mentioned, but they were rampant on the Community Board - which is the reason the policy change was announced there on Saturday. The DIS Guidelines have also been updated to reflect the change in policy. Basically, the mission of the DIS is a family-oriented, Disney trip planning website. The other boards not fitting that mission are included here for the enjoyment of DIS posters, but those two topics created 98% of the issues on the Community Board over the years and really peaked over the past 6 months - and have not minimized since the November election. The time commtied to moderating those discussions was far in proportional excess to the number of posts and number of posters involved - so it was decided that the DIS would be better off without those topics.

"God Bless You", "Merry Christmas", "Happy Easter", "Please say a prayer for me", etc. are all fine and do not clash with the policy. Also a cross, Star of David or Christmas tree (among others) are also graphics still allowed in signatures.

For more information, please read thru the (now closed) discussion thread about the policy. Many specific questions about the implementation have already been answered in that thread. - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2125875 .

Basically, if a discussion involves political or religious doctrine it isn't appropriate. There is also a certain amount to latitude with both of those. We have threads with Bible quotes and Christian music lyrics- which remain and are fine since they are not religious doctrine discussions and do not violate the spirit or intent of the new policy.
