Hi,

We have a buyer for excess points we placed up for sale with the Timeshare store, however when it comes to the Escrow stage prior to closing we have to get the signatures notarized and apparently there are about seven pages which each have to be to signed twice (mt DW and myself). In the US you can walk into a bank and have this service done for free, however in the UK you have to use the services of a Notary Solicitor and I was quoted £65 per signature!.:scared1: I have been told that it is possible to have them notarized at the US Embassy but I am not sure whether they do this for US originating documents.

Has anyone been through this procedure before and can give some advice on how to reduce the expense if posssible?

Does each signature need to be notarized, or just the last page? Or are the seven pages separate documents, each with a space for a notary's stamp?

Will they give you a discount for that many signatures?

In the U.S., in most cases, we only notarize the last page of a document.

The Solicitor will probably say you need to notarize every signature because he wants the fees, but if you get a lot of conflicting opinions on both sides and becuase it is a U.S. document I would then just have the last page notarized and send it back and see what happens.

It should state on your closing documents which signatures need to be notarized... there shoould be a checklist., and I know that it is 5-7 pages with signatures that need to be notarized. If you don't you will slow down the closing, and have to get them notarized anyway. You should call/email the timeshare store if you have questions maybe they can help.

I needed some documents notorised and was quoted up to the best part of £200 for an hour or part there of, that was for a senior partner who was the noterie. I beleive the law society sets the fees.
£65 a signature sounds off the mark to me.

When we sold some VWL points in January through the Timeshare Store/ Magic Vacation Title, we found a local firm of solicitors in Woking where one partner was a notary and we were charged £135.

As an aside, the UK notary insisted that the documents had to be tied together with pink ribbon with a covering page. When the documents reached MVC we received this email -

"Because the notary has added a page to the deed (their acknowledgment),
I will have to have that recorded, The cost for that one additional
page is $8.50 and will be deducted from your proceeds."

To courier the documents back to Orlando, we used the local shop of Mail Boxes and they charged £37.50.

Hope this helps
