not yet activated ap & mnsshp discount

I have purchased a platinum annual pass, which I intend to activate on arriving at Disney World for our October trip. My niece wants us to go to the MNSSHP one night during the trip. I would like to purchase the tickets at the AP rate. I am not sure whether it would be recommended to purchase in advance or not. What do you recommend in regards to this? Also, I assume the two year old does not need a party ticket just as he does not need a park ticket?

We always get our tickets in advance. We typically go very close to Halloween and those dates can sell out plus I have never been there on a MNSSHP night when the lines at guest services and ticket windows has not be insane - I would rather not have to deal with that. With that said since we do go so close to Halloween we have never gone on a date that was available for the AP discount. Just make sure if you have logged in to MDE before you decide which date you want to go - there are only certain dates AP holders can get the discount and you can only access that calendar if you are logged in.

We have annual passes that are not activated and we're able to buy the discounted party tickets in advance. We are going to the first party in August.
Party tickets are only needed for children who are old enough to need park tickets

If you know you're going to the party then by the tickets as soon as possible so they don't sell out
