Not too shabby for a consolation prize! A Dec 2013 TR! Update 5/3 p. 28 COMPLETED!

888 :rolleyes1. This was our second full year with this many points and I was afraid that we might not be able to use them up. I seem to be doing OK.

I think you've got a handle on it. You're doing quite well. :thumbsup2

I think my Sept UY is perfect :goodvibes We would never travel in the summer months, so banking by April 30 gives plenty of time to make our plans.
We didn't know a thing about UY when we bought but I'm very happy.

Yes we are doing VGF in May-June, that's the trip I had to borrow for. That GV was so much fun! It used up 1/3 of my VGC points.

You've got a great UY based on the days you do WDW. Mine isn't the best. It's awesome that you guys stay in the GV. What a treat for you and the band.

That's what I thought. I cannot wait to see the pics from that report. I am looking forward to Pam's too in just a few weeks. I can't even imagine how beautiful the VGF are. One day......

I didn't know anything about UYs either and didn't know to ask. I am more informed now though I think if/when we add on, I'll keep December if possible. Do all your contracts have a Sept UY?

We would do it before dinner. I think the reservation is around 6PM. I will be in a food coma after the dinner.

Perfect. The holiday parade is at 2:30 and 5:30 so we'll plan on the 2:30 unless you'll be to the parks that early and in that case we'll do the 5:30. I may be too ambitious with trying to do the parade and fireworks.

If you're moving Storytellers to breakfast, perhaps we could plan an afternoon meet at the house that afternoon before Michael flies out. I have no idea where we will be at on the house by then, but we can confirm as we get closer.

That sounds great. I have a feeling I'll suck it up and spend the points for a night at the DLH. I can get a standard room for 20 points less than I can a one bedroom villa. Of course a villa is WAY nicer but the DLH is pretty magical and it's only for a night. They sleep 5.

I keep my toiletries in my suitcase too!

Michael does too. You all travel more than I do. Smart.

I think we are doing the boat parade on the 13th. Our realtors invited us on some boat that leaves from a dock behind McKenna's.

Very cool! The actual parade is on the 21st but you can see the lights anytime. I just got off the phone with the boat place and reserved an 8 seater from 4:30-6:30. Sunset is at 4:45 so this way, I can watch the sunset on the water and still have an hour to troll through canal. I cannot wait. :cloud: Let me know how you like it. We've walked through the canal but I've never done the boat though Naples.

A very nice and busy schedule to do. I will be looking forward to your pictures and it will be be very neat to see Chloe pictures as well.

Thank you. She's our budding photographer and loves being in charge. Her eye is very interesting.

Technically no, you aren't borrowing, it's the Dec UY messing with your head. LOL! You think you are borrowing because you are booking it before the points are in your account but that isn't how it works. The points go with the date of the reservation, not when you book it.

You have 85 points coming 12/1. I don't know how big your contract is but if it is more than 85, you have actually already borrowed. :goodvibes :goodvibes Your trip is after 12/1. That means your trip is in your Dec 13 UY (today is still your Dec 12 UY) You get your points on 12/1 so any trip taken after that, is in that UY. Your trip is taking place in your Dec 13 UY and you are using your Dec 13 points for it, some of that 85. So it's not borrowing, the trip and the points are in the same year. If your trip was today, you'd have to borrow. (Do I sound like the teacher from Charlie Brown yet? LOL! :rotfl:)

While you get your 85 2013 points on 12/1, any trips booked on 12/1 or later would also be eligible to borrow from your full allotment of 2014 (85 points or whatever your full contract is). If you go and click on the contract page (mymembership/vacationpoints/) then scroll down to where you see all the UY's. 2012 will be expanded as that is what we are currently in. You can click on 2013, 2014, etc to see what is there. So, if your trip cost more than 85 points all told, you'd be borrowing from your 2014 points. Which doesn't show on the member front page but are available to use for a trip taken in your 2013 UY, which yours is. On 12/1 that page will show 2013 and 2014 instead of the 12/13 it shows today. It shows current and future as of the day you look at the page...which may or may not match the trip you are booking.

Our contract is for 170 points so the 20 I just used came from 2013 (the same that shows the 85 now) showed 105 before my waitlist came through. I have 170 available for 2014. I'm in the red.

You are amazing so explaining this to me. :flower3:

I actually LOVE my Dec UY but it can be really confusing as only one month of it, actually matches what the calendar year says. For 11 months of 2014..we are still in our 2013 UY and it can be confusing. I like it, and picked it on purpose, because the banking date is 7/1. For me that is so much better as I will know summer plans by then and can make the right call.

For a Dec UY, fall trips can be risky as they are after the banking window and you could end up in a holding situation. Thanksgiving trips could be wacky as well as the UY date could fall in the middle of that weekend (it does this year). It is however, perfectly lovely for December trips! I figure we generally travel more, or are more likely to, from Dec-Aug versus fall with the kids so it works best for us.

I'm glad you like it. I think I need to educate myself more and learn how to use my UY to my advantage. You need to do a DVC 101 course for your dense friends. ;)

So did they have the Friday off already? that's cool, E's go all the way through Friday, as do K&T (though it works for our NYE dates, they miss the m/t on the back end instead).

I thought they did but your post made me question myself and I am glad I did. They are NOT off 12/20. This means they'll miss 3 days. For some reason we all thought they had it off, my neighbor included. I am not thrilled with them missing 3 days.....

I really hope you don't have to move, major fingers crossed for it coming through, I'm sure I made someones Easter yesterday releasing that studio!

I am okay either way to be honest. The DLH would be 20 points less and honestly, Disneyland is so small that it makes moving pretty easy. I love the DLH rooms too. The pixiedust headboards are so cool. I'm good with either and am happy we got the GCV for at least a night.

Not hopping makes a TON of sense.

I agree, we just don't have the luxury of time this trip. I am excited to to really dig into the details of each park. I have only breezed through Carsland twice. I'm looking forward to not feeling so hurried. Funny how having two 1 day trips makes me SO grateful for one two day trip.

M's flight is at 6? My only concern is the holidays. I know how fast LGB is but I might vote for 4:30 lol. Which yes, is a bit tight if storytellers is running behind at all. I've not been (and need to look into all this, Evan has requested a "big fancy breakfast" for our last morning) so no idea if they run on time or not.

LBG is only 17 miles from Disneyland and no freeways. I think we'll be good as LGB has never had a line in all of the years I've flown into/out of there but leaving a little earlier is a good idea. We've been to Storyteller's twice and the service and food are both outstanding, nothing like Goofy's Kitchen which seems to be a cluster of sorts.

The boat thing sounds SOOOOO cool! I hope you can get a nice full boat, bring the cost down and enjoy. That would be absolutely magical. Sounds like it might be special to go to mass with your dad, is that weird for the kids at all or something they've done before, or is it best to just have a smaller/shorter 1:1. I can only imagine how tough it all is on everyone but yet, a blessing to see him over the holidays. I'm glad the chicken was such a hit, love that place!

Mass comes to him thank goodness. During our last visit my father tried to AWOL. Because he cannot speak and I have experience with the geropsych population, I am assuming he starts to decompensate once the visit is extended for any period of time and because he has moments of ludicity, he realizes, I cannot take him with me. It is by far the most heartbreaking thing I have had to deal with, aside from Chloe's illnesses. I always leave feeling raw and drained and rendered pretty useless for a good hour after.

We might need to do takeout in April :goodvibes

Don't forget the boysenberry pie, its the pie ever, and I've tried lots of pie.

BLEH on the drive home but the nice thing about your dates is you still get Christmas at home and more vacation/relaxing before the real world intrudes again...even if it is a little rushed.

I like that too. I did book a room in Vegas on the night of 12/23 just in case. I can cancel up to 48* in advance. I like options.

Seriously I'm down to just enough left in my 2014 UY...to cover one night for the half. With all the trips I'll have used almost 3 full years of points. Scary! Any 2014 trips (which are really in 2015's calendar year, so confusing!) will be on 2015 points. We will likely be taking 2016 off though so I figure I'll catch up then.

Maybe.

You're not missing 2016 anymore than I am. :rotfl: ;) I am sure we'll have a race to run. Right MEK? Where she is anyway?

Uh oh, Gabby found out about the secret!?

Birthday breakfast sounds great, well any birthday meal does, but I just love breakfast food.

I used to have to pack my toiletries last minute since I didn't have extras. That stressed me out so now have everything in duplicates. Brush, shaver, soap, shampoo, deodorant, ect. My latest acquisition was a bath robe for the suitcase. I would always have to dry it before packing it the morning of travel. No more. Yes, I had to take it with me, it makes me happy :rotfl:

I am terrible at keeping my own happy secrets. LOL!

I enjoy breakfast foods too especially while on vacation. I generally skip breakfast during the week but enjoy a big breakfast on the weekends.

I think you might need to take M to Starbucks and hint about points :stir:

You're a smart woman! That's exactly what I am going to do. There is a Starbucks in DCA and it;s not too far from the DVC kiosk by GRR.

I think Pam's onto something!

::yes::

Great looking plans. I'm curious to see how the no park hopping works out. And I'll have to remember the boat rental on Naples. I've previously looked at doing the Gondola rides.

Thanks, I know we're packing a lot in. The gondola is fun, I think you'd really like it. We did it years ago. It was a big date thing back in the day. I just booked out boat through Naples. The kids are going to flip out! Michael will be sad he's missing it.

I wanted to share a pic Michael sent me today. He's co-producing a shoot for Buckle and was up early picking up the crew at a hotel near the port of Miami. He sent me this as it was pulling in.
null_zps131efc71.jpg
Amazing! He said it was super cool. Made my morning.

My friend was on the Magic this morning! It was her make up cruise since the 10/20 was cancelled.

888 points Allison?!?!?! :worship: My 100 points feel so small and insignificant. :rotfl2:

Hi.

Is that the Magic? How can you tell? It's so beautiful. Even Michael had to admit it was cool. I think it's the Disney Cruise gods smiled down on me today. He was 110% against any kind of cruising until this morning.

I know, right? 888? Think 8 is her lucky number? :p

This just made my day, too. In 22 days, I will be on the Magic again. The Magic is currently in Miami and the Wonder is in Galveston. They switch ships around in early January with the Magic heading to Port Canaveral and the Wonder going to Miami.

I would likely do the same thing. Is your first night a 1B? 20 points is quite a bit and while it is nice not to move, it's also nice to be "in" both over the holidays.

You are amazing so explaining this to me. :flower3:

Well you are significantly less red than I am :cool1: I figured you had more than 85 to pull off the trips you have. And you've got all of 2014 available so in just over a week, you really aren't in the red anymore. LOL!

I'm glad you like it. I think I need to educate myself more and learn how to use my UY to my advantage. You need to do a DVC 101 course for your dense friends. ;)

:rotfl2: you seem to be doing fine, you've been able to book what you want, when you want, use RCI, Disney Collection and haven't dipped in to 2014 yet. Way better than me! Upgrading to the 1B for the DLR trip really wiped me out, I was in good shape for 2014 before then. Ok...not good shape but way more buffer than I have now. Which is nothing. Still, it's worth it.

I thought they did but your post made me question myself and I am glad I did. They are NOT off 12/20. This means they'll miss 3 days. For some reason we all thought they had it off, my neighbor included. I am not thrilled with them missing 3 days.....

UGH, that bites! Is it early release at least? I've got to contact the school/teachers at some point about the 2 days the E's are missing. Evan can't afford to miss a beat.

I am okay either way to be honest. The DLH would be 20 points less and honestly, Disneyland is so small that it makes moving pretty easy. I love the DLH rooms too. The pixiedust headboards are so cool. I'm good with either and am happy we got the GCV for at least a night.

20 points is a lot, I'd probably move. Or maybe even do DLH both nights if the overall was 40 less....

I agree, we just don't have the luxury of time this trip. I am excited to to really dig into the details of each park. I have only breezed through Carsland twice. I'm looking forward to not feeling so hurried. Funny how having two 1 day trips makes me SO grateful for one two day trip.

With the crowds I don't think hopping is practical anyway for a 2 day trip, this will let you really enjoy each one separately which is good.

:grouphug: Oh Jenny :sad1:

Don't forget the boysenberry pie, its the pie ever, and I've tried lots of pie.

We got one last time, for takeout and were too full to eat it. We took the whole thing home on the plane. SOOOOOO good! I have a feeling my folks may want to actually go to the restaurant and do sit down so that could be good the first night maybe if we don't eat at DTD. We did a local brewpub last time and it was ok but I'm not sure worth the drive. I'd rather eat in the parks but I don't think we will go in on day 1.

I like that too. I did book a room in Vegas on the night of 12/23 just in case. I can cancel up to 48* in advance. I like options.

She's slowly catching up...buried at work right after they got back so it starting to get caught up on TR's/PTR's. She is here.

I hope I don't miss 2016...I can hopefully swing a fall trip but before that is dicey at best. Both boys will be going to Ireland with the Marching Band for the St. Patrick's Day parade in Dublin so...that will eat up a lot of vacation dollars!

And, it's not out of the question that Jeff and I will look at what's available though RCI as we will possibly extend our part of the trip on one side or the other. No real clue yet but basically we will go...but not chaperone.

On the other hand, I'd love to do WDW summer of 2016...summer before Evan's senior year! But...summer 2017 is more likely. Or even spring break.

This just made my day, too. In 22 days, I will be on the Magic again. The Magic is currently in Miami and the Wonder is in Galveston. They switch ships around in early January with the Magic heading to Port Canaveral and the Wonder going to Miami.

I'm so glad you like the pic. I thought it was pretty neat. Makes me so excited for my first Disney Cruise. he said when he drove back it was in port and too blocked to et a good pic.

I would likely do the same thing. Is your first night a 1B? 20 points is quite a bit and while it is nice not to move, it's also nice to be "in" both over the holidays.

I really want Chloe to wake up on property. The 108 point two bedroom is gone today. Today makes the 30 days for my trip so I think I'm out of luck at the GCV. I'll call tomorrow and grab a standard at the DLH.

Well you are significantly less red than I am :cool1: I figured you had more than 85 to pull off the trips you have. And you've got all of 2014 available so in just over a week, you really aren't in the red anymore. LOL!

LOL! I love not being in the red. It's a rare and fleeting feeling but I like it. :thumbsup2

True. I really need some GCV points though. I am really hoping Michael wants to chat at the DVC kiosk. pixiedust:

UGH, that bites! Is it early release at least? I've got to contact the school/teachers at some point about the 2 days the E's are missing. Evan can't afford to miss a beat.

It's early out for the Jr High but not HS. HS has A and B days so Gabby will miss one A day and two B days; I'm less worried about her.

What will you say to the E's teachers?

20 points is a lot, I'd probably move. Or maybe even do DLH both nights if the overall was 40 less....

I thought about that but Michael said to try for the GCV if we can nab it. He loves the GCV, like loves it. Plus we'll have it our DCA day and walking into the hotel from inside DCA is amazing. I'll stay anywhere he wants if he's got a preference. We could have done the PPH both nights but he's not interested in staying there again.

With the crowds I don't think hopping is practical anyway for a 2 day trip, this will let you really enjoy each one separately which is good.

::yes:: We're thinking the same. I'm excited to have a full day in both parks. Both trips this year were one dayers; I can't believe the amount of magic we stuffed into this two days.

Storytellers is the Chip and Dale one right? Do they do breakfast?

Yes, it's Chip and Dale at breakfast only. I like it because you can order the buffet or a la carte. It's the cleanest buffet I've been to aside from Boma. I don't know they keep Boma so clean with the amount of traffic that goes through there but it's been so nice every time.

Thanks friend. Defs don't want to add a bummer element to this happy report but felt I should elaborate on why seeing my father doesn't take up more time. It's so hard on us all. Seeing me must trigger him somehow- who knows, stoke victims can be very impulsive post stroke and because he pickled a lot of brain cells and is 75, there could also be some vascular components such as dementia. He was a severe alcoholic and self-medicated bipolar from my late teens on. He was amazing when I was a young child and I'm grateful for that. I'm sure he's part of the reason I went into the mental health field and the main reason I love Disney so much. We created a lifetime full of wonderful memories at Disneyland.

We got one last time, for takeout and were too full to eat it. We took the whole thing home on the plane. SOOOOOO good! I have a feeling my folks may want to actually go to the restaurant and do sit down so that could be good the first night maybe if we don't eat at DTD. I like eating there. Knott's get looked over but if you like coasters, it's a great park. Lots of nostalgia there too. Knott's Scary Farm is by far the best amusement park Halloween gig out there if you're looking for scary and fun.

Mrs. Knott's restaurant reminds me of those old cafeterias we used to take my grandma too; the kind that serve tomato juice and Saltines as a starter.

I hope I don't miss 2016...I can hopefully swing a fall trip but before that is dicey at best. Both boys will be going to Ireland with the Marching Band for the St. Patrick's Day parade in Dublin so...that will eat up a lot of vacation dollars!

That's right, you've got Ireland. :thumbsup2 That will be amazing. And on St. Patty's Day no less. Where's my pic of the Lucky Charms guy puking up Lucky Charms due to over imbibing? :rotfl:

I haven't thought that far out and haven't a clue where we'll be. Gabby has ALL kinds of post HS plans and options (in her mind anyway).

While this doesn't constitute as a full on update, it's worthy of posting. I canceled our wait list at the GCV for 12/20 and booked a room at the Disneyland Hotel for that night. I did this for two reasons; a one bedroom at the GCV is 20 points higher than room at the DLH. While some may say: but hey it's totally worth it, you'd be right but I don't want to spend that many points for such a short trip. It's not like we need laundry or a kitchen and I love, like want to marry love, the Disneyland Hotel. :lovestruc The GCH had a courtyard room available but if I'm not staying DVC then I'd rather be at the DLH. This way we get the best of both worlds. Time at each pool if we want a break each day, the Hearthstone Lounge on our GCV evening which also happens to be our DCA day, and the Disneyland grounds if we choose to stroll. Perfect.

I also made a breakfast and a lunch reservation at Storyteller's at the GCH. Don't worry, I'll cancel one soon. Check out at the DLH is at 11:00 am and I see us enjoying it until the last possible minute. Disneyland is open until midnight that Friday night and I am sure my girls will want to sleep in. I also love EoS' proximity to the DLH.

Michael thinks the dogs would be better off at the kennel than at his folks so that's been booked too.

The boat ride through Naples in Long Beach is also a go :woohoo: so our plan now looks like this.

Tues Dec 17: work, school, pack, dogs to kennel, pack car. :hyper:

Wed Dec 18: drive to Ca from Ut. :drive: Spend night with bestie.

Thurs Dec 19: DCA, stay the night at the GCV. :cloud9:

Fri Dec 20: Disneyland, meet up with A&F, spend the night at the DLH. :lovestruc

Sat Dec 21: check out of DLH, breakfast or early lunch at Storyteller's for Chloe's birthday, hang out in DTD, A&F's house (?), M to airport, back to besties.

Sun Dec 22: visit dad in am, midday ?, boat parade from 4:30-6:30. I cannot wait for this. It's always something I've wanted to do. I'm not sure what we'll do that evening. I am sure we'll go to dinner. Nick's on 2nd is amazing.

Mon Dec 23: no clue, pack at night.

Tues Dec 24: drive home.

That's the little fat plan (:thanks: Cynthia).

I love it when a plan comes together. It's looking really great and I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time. Does DLR concierge move your luggage from resort to resort?

They do. Or at least they did. We haven't done a hotel switch at Disneyland in years but if I recall they do just like WDW. If by chance they don't then we'll do it. As you saw, everything is so close together. We'll have access to the extra morning hour at both parks but we're going to go to the opposite park. I'm all about the rope drop but don't want to get up that early. I also want to do DCA the first day and Disneyland the 2nd. Skipping the extra magic hour at both parks seems like it will fit everybody's needs. My need to do Disneyland last, the kids' need to sleep :rolleyes1, and Michael's need to spend a full day and the first day no less ;) in his beloved DCA.

The GCH did have an available hotel room using points but it cost more than the Disneyland Hotel. :scared1: The CM offered it to us although I didn't ask. I really like the DLH rooms better than the GCH rooms.

Sat Dec 21: check out of DLH, breakfast or early lunch at Storyteller's for Chloe's birthday, hang out in DTD, A&F's house (?), M to airport, back to besties.

What's with the (?) ?????????????????? :confused3 :rolleyes1

I suppose if you run out of time, you are excused....

 It's that day and we're so excited, just not sure what time in the afternoon. I'm seeing my wing girl, you know that! :lmao: I know you're not morning girls so that's what the ? Is for., it's for the time not intent, I half suspect you know that and are just poking fun at me. :rotfl: And in that case, you got me. Lol!

Thanks for the heads up!

Wonderful introduction of you and your family. I absolutely love each and everyone of the flash back pictures! What lovely kids!

I am super excited that you got a DL consolation prize! That's better than being a DIS mom or whatever the heck its called. I mean, whoever gets selected for those things anyway. It sounds literally impossible.

Can't wait to read another DL TR since I am planning on Feb or March of 2015 for a visit there myself. :thumbsup2

Oh yeah - and if you ARE making all those Donny and Marie references than you have definitely been in Utah TOO long! :rotfl2:

:welcome: friend. :goodvibes Glad you're here. Just catching up on your report.

:confused3 To be honest, I'm not 100% on what criteria someone gets chosen. I'm pretty funny, not completely unfortunate on the eyes, knowledgable, love Disney, and engaged. :rotfl2: They chose the panel yesterday, Twitter was all a buzz. A few I was rooting for made it, others did not. I can't imagine how heartbroken the ones that almost made it are but they get a pretty cool consolation prize; they get to skip the initial application next year and hop right to Round 2. Not sure if I'll apply again, I mean who needs that kind of rejection again at 45? ;)

Feb or March 2015? Do tell. GCV? Have you been?

My consolation prize is WAY better. pixiedust: We wouldn't have had this little trip and of course I'd rather be at Disneyland with my man and babies than with anyone else. Still rejection isn't a hoot. I'm over it though. I feel great!

Oh yeah - and if you ARE making all those Donny and Marie references than you have definitely been in Utah TOO long! :rotfl2:

Truer words were never spoken. This will be my 20th winter here. :scared: :rotfl: I never imagined we'd be here this long when we moved out here.

Lol!

And there I was hoping it was back to just Olga's and PIO's wing. ;)

Have a great time. Please take lots and lots of pictures.

Saturdays we are usually up by 9AM because that's when Darcy shows up and we have to get moving on cleaning, moving boxes and the like. I'm just kidding you! But I do hope that you get over to see the place sometime in the afternoon before Michael has to leave.

In the infamous words of High School Musical: we're all in this together! party: I'll take loads of photos.

We'll be there for sure! His flight isn't until 6 pm and we've got 3 things on the agenda: check out if the DLH, visit your house (including my, PIO's, and Olga's wing)- is that good PIO-lol- and get M to the airport. It's Chloe's birthday too. I bought her a Hobbit Pez collector set today. Impulse buy. ;)

Storytellers is scheduled but I have a feeling Earl will suffice so they can have a little more DTD time.

How far is the new place from LGB?

It's pretty close. The backyard backs up almost to the corner of Bellflower and Atherton. You have to exit via Anaheim Rd in Park Estates. It's a quick trip up Clark to Willow and over to Lakewood Blvd. I would say 15-20 min tops.
