Not The Location You Requested. What do YOU do?

Do you just deal with it or request to be moved pay for the room change if a room is available?

It depends. If I REALLY, REALLY wanted something specific and I could pay for it, I would probably do it. As we all know, requests are just that and they are not guaranteed. We've been fortunate that all of our requests have gone through, but our requests have been to stay in CP at SSR. However, if we were to stay at BLT, I would be more apt to pay for MK view rather than request it and see if I were lucky enough to get it.

If it's a "REQUEST" they are not guaranteed, so I'd just deal with it. I it's a booking catagory and you don't get what you book, then I'd be waiting for them to give me what I booked. This would include things like OKW HH area, BWV standard view, AKV savanna view etc. Other requests are just that "requests" and you take what you get. It's why I never make request anymore except occationally request a specific building at OKW. If I don't get it, it's no big deal.

I ask for a different room at check in and check in early in the day. And I haven't been turned down yet (knock on wood!). If you are requesting a certain area of the resort and don't arrive until all the other rooms have been assigned then you may have 'lost' your request to another guest who was there and wanted that room. Other than a location request which you'd know at check in, I'm not sure what other request would have been made that you wouldn't know before going to the room though so that might be something you'd have to pay to change rooms.

I suck it up and live with it. I'm on vacation in the happiest place in the world. I'm not letting a snafu mess up my week. The only exception being if it is an must have rather than a want to have. When my daughter was really little (2 or 3) she was terrified of heights, elevators and anything that looked high. We really HAD to have first floor. Pop Century fixed it for us.

There is one time we changed one room at VB. My mother was along and we were given a room with a solid balcony. She is in a wheelchair so our nice OVIR was useless to her. I hadn't requested a balcony that a person could see out of though so it's not like our request wasn't met. We moved and she had a great balcony to sit out on during out stay. $30 for what I think is a ridiculous oceanfront design but that's another subject.

Mostly for me it needs to be a severe problem for me to bother moving if it couldn't be done immediately at check-in.

there are several times when got a room did not want. you go on and make the best of it.

remember you are in DVC for the long haul. Sometimes you will get the worst room - other times you might get the best one. mostly you will be inbetween the worst and the best.

you are at WDW and that is definitely better than being anywhere else.

I ask them politely to please check for any other availabilities.

Last April we got the worst room in BCV - 240 - inside corner studio with a view of other balconies. We kept the curtains closed all the time as people sat out there and stared in at us.

Do you just deal with it...

Yep. ::yes::

I can see if someone needed a H/A room and didn't get it, then it would make sense to ask for another room. But other than that, I would just roll with it.

I'd say that we've had our requests fairly well met about 50% of our trips. The other times we weren't close to getting our requests and never felt it was important enough to look for another villa.

We have put in a few requests and so far, have not gotten any of them. But, it was no big deal as I figure that over the course of all my stays, things will happen at some point.

Of course, our requests are not big and would never be worth spending extra money to get it changed.

This summer, our only request for BCV studio was not to be on the 1st floor. For BLT, we do have a LV room reserved and did request to have a room facing the parking lot in hopes to get one of the rooms that can see the fireworks.

But, if we don't get them, then we are okay with that. Now, if I got a room that didn't seem to match what was booked, then yes, I would ask for clarification and expect to be moved or refunded points for getting something less.

And THAT situation is exactly why people don't get their requests. That's why I say "live with it". If everyone just did that, there would be far more requests that got filled.:confused3

:thumbsup2

If you pay for something or need a certain area for medical reasons, that's one thing. But some people get so worked up over not having the view they want or being in a different building. I say just deal with it.

I deal. I figure that in 50 years of ownership, I'm bound to get some less-than-desirable room locations just as I'm bound to get some awesome room locations. :goodvibes

I just politely ask if what I want is available. If it is, great. If not, it's not going to ruin my vacation. I've never had what I would consider a terrible room location. All the areas have their pros and cons, so we just go with it.

Roll with it. Often it seems that even when you are willing to pay the room request fee, they tell you the resort is booked up and they can't move you where you want to be anyway.

As someone said upthread, you are in DVC for the long haul. And DVC operates at pretty much 100% occupancy year round. They often don't have room to move you.

Also, for some reason we always check in with long waits. Going back to the front desk for another long wait to change rooms - that's half an hour or an hour of our vacation. The view is not worth an hour of our vacation.

I don't make requests, and to date I've really never been disapointed with a location or view until SSR. At SSR I've been stuck in the Carousel section twice, which I vowed would never happen again, so for this Jun stay I did make a request. With that said, even the SSR front gate/entrance view would not ruin my stay. The vacation is about spending time with family and friends and the villa in the end is just a real small part of it for me.

The only reason I would complain and ask for a room change is if a had used more points for a specific use such as savanna view, BW view and BLT MK view and was not given the appropriate villa. If I could not be moved I would then ask for the difference in points to be given back to me.

well I also requested that room (area/floor/location) and got there first so why should I live with the 'wrong' room? First come first serve is how it works so I do make sure to check in early and not late afternoon or evening. If I checked in late or simply didn't request the front desk fulfill my request then I'd have nothing to complain about. :confused3

I know exactly where we want to be in what building/area and I make sure my requests are noted and then filled by the front desk. Never had to be nasty or aggressive about it. I simply ask for xyz building if possible and mention I did have it noted as a request.

unless something is actually broken or unacceptable in the room, what makes a room 'wrong'? I'm not attacking you (I have no problems with those that ask politely about requests), but there are posts on the resort boards that make it sound like their whole trip was ruined because their request wasn't fulfilled. I don't get that :confused3

Personally, any room at WDW is better than where I'm at the rest of the year.

The bolded part is how I feel about WDW as well. ;) What makes a room 'wrong' is just a location thing for me, I like my 'home away from home' to be familiar for me and the kids so we try to stay in the same building every time. And if they can accommodate my original request then that's awesome, if they couldn't it certainly wouldn't ruin my vacation! Most of the time they aren't filling them at first because they are offering up a room that is already ready to go even if it's not the location requested, so they are trying to be helpful.

This past trip in June to OKW I requested as I always do to be over by Turtle Pond pool or in the 19 building which is right near the pool.
I don't know why but they put me in a room right near the main building. I don't like it there, I don't like using the main pool or jacuzzi, I prefer the quiet of the other two.
I asked for a change and the Cm was kind of rude saying this is what you wanted why do you want to change. I tried to tell her I didn't want that area and said I didn't. I wonder if the person making the reservations heard me wrong when I said NOT near the main building.
I did get a great room right near the pool in building 19. The little balcony looked out to the bus stop so I got to watch the kids so excited in the am going to see Mickey while I enjoyed my bfst tea.
One other time I requested a studio in WLV but requested a balcony. Of course I got the only studio without the balcony. When I went back to change they told me since I had opened the door and went into the room it would cost $75 to change. So I stuck it out but if I ever stay at WLV again I will have that room number in my head and refuse it before I go up there.
