about Boma.

I have it booked on the evening we arrive. I am contemplating changing it. We'll be on DxDP - but I have made all my ADRs so we can only do a 1 credit TS that night.

I am planning on avoiding MK that evening. We are staying at CSR - maybe something close to there... maybe DTD.

On my radar are Wolfgang Puck - either Express or dining room, Fultons or Coral Reef (doubt I will get this ressie though).

I have a picky 3 y.o who would not be into anything like Trex or Rainforest Cafe or Sci Fi.

Keep Boma or switch?

My plan that night is to eat around 6 pm-ish and then back to CSR for a dip in the pool.

I wouldn't let a picky 3 yr old stop you from eating at Boma. It is my family's favourite buffet at WDW. There is plenty of food for a picky child. Hey, we've seen picky adults filling up on fries and chicken fingers.

Your choices seem to be all over the place, from WPE counter service to Fultons - isn't that only an option on the Premium and Platinum dining plans?
I wouldn't burn a day off a ticket to get to Coral Reef, but you may have an AP. My boys and DH love Boma, and I like it fine.

I am not sure what you mean burn off a ticket? We are on Park Hopper anyway, but as I said in the first post - it is arrival day (I didn't clarify that we arrive just before dinner), I want to steer clear of MK and we're pretty well planning to hang at the hotel that night. We aren't planning on doing any parks unless it is to eat (ie. eating at Coral Reef in Epcot).

Yes, my choices are all over the place. Unlike my daughter, I eat a variety of food! I am not sure if it is not available on DxDP (Fultons), I will have to check.

I was thinking a trip to DTD might be better for DD since we aren't doing any parks that day. IE - it's not that magical of a first experience, kwim? :confused3

By burn a day on your ticket, I mean: In order to get to Coral Reef, you would have to use up a day of your hopper just to get into Epcot. Coral Reef is inside Epcot.

I think the pp meant by burning off a ticket was wasting a park day by just eating at a restaurant. If you're coming in late I'd just eat at a resort like you already have planned. We are trying Boma for the first time this trip also. I'm not to sure about it either but we're up for trying new things everytime we visit :) Don't worry about it so much and just relax and enjoy yourself! Have a great trip.

Looove Boma! I've been with picky eaters and there is always plenty of variety to suit different tastes. :thumbsup2 Plus, the atmosphere of the lodge (indoors and out) can't be beat.

I agree with BebopBaloo. I think the atmosphere at AKL and the animals would be very entertaining for a 3 year old. DTD is basically crowds and shopping.

Agreed. I'm a mean mom. :lmao:

I wasn't all that impressed with the food at Disney, but we loved Boma. It is a great variety. Keep Boma, hang out at the hotel, check out the animals and back to the hotel.

Neither Fultons or Wolfgang Puck The Dining Room are on the Deluxe Dining Plan (Wolfgang Cafe and Wolfgang Express are).

If your 3 year old is picky, I'd skip Coral Reef.

We often dine at AKL on our arrival night. It's a fun resort. Boma's children's pod has plenty of plain offerings.

Keep it!! Boma has the most options of any buffet on WDW property! We love it, and I'm sure there will be something your picky eater will enjoy.

The DIS Unplugged podcast recently did a review of Boma. They weren't that impressed. I ate there a few years ago and was also didn't get what all the hype was about.

There's nothing overly impressive about any buffet at WDW, IMHO. Most remind me of the Golden Corrals of my college days. At least Boma is more like an African/Mediterranean Corral, which isn't easily found locally for a tenner.

Here's a link to the podcast. You'll be able to hear it over your computer.

But like the opinions of the posters here whether they love/hate a restaurant, the same can be said for those doing the podcast. It's an opinion, even if it's Walt himself, reincarnated, doing the podcast. pirate:

Keep Boma, both for itself and for the fact that it will fit nicely into your schedule/touring plan.

As some PPs have said, if you schedule a dinner at a restaurant in one of the theme parks such as Coral Reef you have to use 1 day's admission on your ticket in order to get to the restaurant. Since you are not planning on doing anything in any park on your arrival day, save your admission days so that you use the first one on your first full day there. If you have as many admission days as you have nights you are staying, that means you will be able to go to a park on the day you check out (very handy for last-minute souvenirs, or a final ride on your very very favorite attraction).

Boma IS a little distance from CSR, so it's even better to do that on a night when the travel is NOT eating into time that you would otherwise be in a park. And if you have not been there before, you want to go early and spend some time exploring the AKL and the outdoors animal observation areas. So go enjoy the AKL, have a leisurely dinner and then go back to CSR for a swim before bed. Great way to start your trip!

We really enjoy the food at Boma and the fact that there are so many, many choices. There may be some really exotic flavors for you to try, but there are also lots of the basics: this is WDW, after all, and they are catering to the maximum number of people. Last year we were there with a massively picky teenage girl and she loved the place.

We love Boma. You could also take the 3 year old to see the animals before heading back.

Thanks everyone!!

Yeah, I wasn't too worried about using up a park ticket as we have hopper - BUT, I'd just as soon avoid them the first night because we will be arriving later in the day and I don't want DD wanting to stay up late to check things out so she can be fresh for our first full day in MK the next day.

I think we will stick with Boma then. DH and I definitely like to try new things and it reassures me that there will be plenty of choices for DD too!

Yeah, I wasn't too worried about using up a park ticket as we have hopper -

But you realize that a hopper simply means that you can go to different parks each day, right? Whether you enter one park just to eat or all four on any given day, you still lose a day off of your hopper.
