I was thinking about doing Boma for dinner on our first evening but now I am reconsidering. I think I only really want to go there to check out AKL. But I don't really have anything else to put in its place. So keep Boma or replace with ???????
If you've never been there, I would say keep it. It's one of my favorites and a place I would say to try at least once. If you're concerned about the food being a little too out there for your taste, don't worry, there are so many options (plus kid friendly items) to choose from. My husband is a plain meat and potatoes sort of guy and he was able to find a lot there that he liked.
Another vote to keep it! AKL is a destination in and of itself. It has actually been officially classified as a museum because of all of the African artwork scattered throughout the property.
Both are excellent so go with the one that fits into your plans better. If you do go for breakfast, get the Frunch for your beverage. It's a citrus-based African punch and it's wonderful! We're going for dinner this time and I plan to ask if I can get it then. Has anyone here ever had it with dinner?
Hard to say. Both are exceptional, but dinner is much more active/busy in my experience (perhaps because we're not early breakfast people). Evening is a better time to experience the AKL lobby ambience, IMO.... plus maybe get a drink before dinner at the lovely Victoria Falls bar which overlooks Boma.
Boma is awesome. If you have any reservations about trying this restaurant – just do it. Go and eat. Try something new, have an old favorite and enjoy everything. I did not like everything I tried, but I did find some new things and it was good. Another highly recommended meal. Oh and the little pineapple cheesecake is to die for. Forget those oh too sweet Zebra Domes. Go for the cheesecake. You won't regret it. No one has cheesecake like Boma.
Definitely go-- especially since there no where else you want to go. Even though I am not an adventurous eater, and my kids even less so, we found food we all liked. In fact, when asked what there favorite restaurant was, both kids and DH said Boma. And personally, I think they have the best chocolate chip cookies on property! DH and I will be eating breakfast there next Sunday and I hope they have them available!!
If you do end up going, be sure to arrive early enough to explore the lobby, the gift shop and especially the animal viewing areas off the lobby. I think that's worth the trip to AKL even if you're not eating! It's just a neat experience IMHO.

We went early and got to see the animals and walked the lobby. The food was delicious and there are a lot of choices. It was definitely one of my favorite meals at Disney and like many others have said already seeing AKL is a plus in itself
