Not sure what to do

I think at 11 and 7, they would be perfectly fine waiting in the waiting room while you are in with the Dr.

I have left my 8 and 5 yr old in the waiting room while I'm at the DR wiht a book to look thur. They ahve always been fine and I always get comments on how well behaved they are while waiting.

You really don't want to go, you are looking for excuses. Don't cancel. I know so many people who found serious problems at a routine exam and were successfully treated. I also know someone who put it off when she had a cough and she is now battling stage 3 lung cancer. Take care of yourself for your kids.

My granddaughters 8 and 10 wait in the waiting room for their Mom.

I urge you not to cancel & reschedule your appointment -- no matter what kind of appointment it is. You said that you had been putting off the appointment and that you are going at the urging of your DH. A friend of mine recently passed away from breast cancer -- she had been putting off the appointment to go in for quite some time.

My dh was hounding me for months to get a check up and I didn't want to, either. I finally made an appt and had to take my kids, who are 4 & 8. I left my 8yo in the waiting room alone and he was fine. I don't see any reason why you can't or don't want to leave a 7 & 11 yo in the waiting room.

By the way - I am sooo glad I finally made that appt. While the dr didn't find anything serious, we did determine I needed medication and I am starting to feel like my old self again and not feeling bad and tired all the time.

I think you will be glad you went. I wish I had gone last fall.

An 11 year old and a 7 year old are plenty old enough to be left on their own in a doctor's waiting room. I don't understand the issue...:confused3

The issue is that she doesn't really want the checkup and is looking for an excuse not to go. But, really, who does want one?

I have an 11 year old that is on the young side and I would still trust her in a dr's office waiting room with a 7 year old and movie. Just explain to them they have to be quiet and I am sure they will. Dr's visits don't last that long nowadays anyway.

I agree they are old enough to wait in the waiting room. That shouldn't be a problem. both my ob/gyn office and family doc's office have an area for kids in the waiting room, with books, toys, little table and chairs, and one even has a kitchen set. If your waiting room doesn't have a kid area just bring books, and stuff to keep them occupied. they will be fine.

oh and thanks for reminding me, I need to schedule my exam too :)
