I am currently going through the process of DIY booking and have come to a brick wall.

Our original plan was to spend 17 nights at Disney POFQ with car, then thanks to a post on the board I booked 1 week at Universals RPR, which is great. Our plan is not to stay the full week but for 4 nights then go to Disney as use the UK deal (4 nights free) for POFQ (but only stay 13 nights as you can only get the deal if you book for 14 nights and it works out cheaper).

I am now thinking about saving the money and going to a value (we stayed at ASM years ago and thought it was ok) price difference is around £400-£500. Alternatively the other option is not to book with the UK but to try the US (see if I can get free dining when its announced) but the UK deal ends on 31 March and dining is not normally announced until April.

Last trip we were at OKW which we thought was wonderful but I am just wondering if POFQ is worth the extra as we are they type of family who are up and out and may only go back for a swim every so often.

I am also wondering if a value will be a bit of a come down from RPR and OKW.

The money is not an issue but I am one of these people who think that the money saved could pay for the car hire etc etc

Any suggestions / advice please

I know I would notice the drop in standard and then be cross with myself for trying to do everything a little cheaper.

Not stayed at POFQ(did book but changed to AKL) but stayed at All star Moveis & AKL, not a chance of us going back to value again, it would have to be either Moderate or Deluxe. If I could not afford Mod and my only option was value I would stay offsite. Values are not worth £20/night to us but I know many like them.
So glad I booked OKW when free DDP was on. Costs are crazy now.

Stayed at ASMo & POFQ - I liked ASMo but loved POFQ would stay at a value again but dh would'nt.

Personally DH and I prefer to have a Villa, but on our last trip it was just Me, DH and two toddlers so it didn't warrant having one, we stayed off site at the Best Western Lakeside, it was £310 for 15 nights, great price, but you get what you pay for. We didnt use the pools at all and we were up and out to parks etc and not returning till 8-9pm at night. The way we looked at it was the money we saved we could spend on more fun stuff, I'd rather do that than have a hotel that is more expensive but where I'm only going to go to sleep, know what I mean?

We have booked a villa for this year, we are sharing with friends so it's a lot more economical - can't wait!! Have a great trip! :)

I see that you booked a DIY holiday to RPR - which I hope to do next year.
Do you have any advice on booking this hotel - who did you find the best deal with? Hope you dont mind me asking.
Thanks

Have you had a look at the US site yet?? I've booked our week at Pop in May via the US site as (at the time) it worked out alot cheaper than the UK website! Obviously this will depend on the exchange rate at the time as well.

If you book with the US site you pay one night's deposit initially, which is fully refundable up to a certain point before the trip. So you could maybe look into that as an option as if you were to cancel there would be no penalty unlike the Disney UK website!

damo runs a thread with prices and how they obtained them for RPR(and other 2 Universal hotels) here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2245251
We have paid $152/night for this August when they had a glitch on the system, still hop to get a better rate with Annual pass before we go.
