They found out last Feb that I have a couple of cysts on my spleen. The Dr at the time said that he didn't think it would be a problem and that my regular Dr should just do ultra sounds once a year to keep an eye on them. Out of the blue in Sept. I got a call saying that the specialist had wanted my Dr to order an ultrasound. Because of a mix up with the lab, I had that done in Oct. just before Thanksgiving. Then just last Fri. my Dr. called and said that the specialist wanted a CAT scan done. I am scheduled to have it done next Tues. Here that is fast. No explaination for any of it. I don't know whether I should be worried or that they are just being cautious and keeping a close tab on things. More than they originally said. We go away for 3 weeks starting the 21st of Jan. I really don't want anything to deter me away from that. I need this vacation so badly. I know that after I have it if I don't get a call then everything is okay, but I wish they would just say that it is nothing to worry about. UGG

I kinda had the same unsure feelings about something very similar. I had a abdominal ultrasound, but then they immediately called back the next day and set up a cat-scan. I talked to my doctor about it, and basically in a lot of situations the ultrasound is just not clear enough for them, so they want to do the cat-scan to make sure everything is all clear. So hopefully there is nothing to worry about at all, and it's just them wanting to get a clearer picture of everything. That stuff they give you to drink is awful. Will be praying that everything is alright though.

When I had a u/s for my gall bladder, they called and ordered a CAT scan and after that they ordered an MRI(might have been the other way around..mri then ct scan.) It was a cyst on my kidney that turned out to be nothing but they have to check it out. Try not to worry.

It could just be they want a different view to rule out "stuff". It's not uncommon to have both tests. It's hard not to worry but try not to worry until you have results. They may just be crossing "t's" and dotting "i's".
