Hi!

This isn't exactly a disability but it is a medical issue that could affect my Disney trip. I was recently put on Coumadin after a pulmonary embolism. I am only 32 and my PE started as a clot in my arm from a bad IV while in labor with my third child. Super scary.

I may or may not still be on Coumadin by the time of our trip. If I am, I was wondering what to expect as far as limitations. Any rides that are too rough and might cause extra bruising? Any thing your doctors have told you to avoid? My doctor said we will discuss it "when the time comes". But I like to plan ahead!

You may be putting the cart before the horse if you don't currently have a parks vacation planned and you aren't sure how long you'll be on the Coumadin. But I understand the desire to pre-plan

Really, I'd have a good conversation with your doctor first. Coumadin can cause you to bruise and/or bleed much more easily. Depending on how your doctor feels that is impacting you, I would think that negates any "rough" rides that jerk you around. Tame rides are likely fine, though honestly if you are wrangling young ones and dealing with moving walkways -- there's a lot of times that you may incur a light bump that normally you wouldn't even notice but could be magnified by the Coumadin.

If you currently have a trip planned and are at the point that you need to decide whether to postpone or go, I'd push your doc for the conversation now.

My youngest daughter was on Lovenox blood thinner for a blood clot in her leg from Oct-Jan and since we live 8 miles from Disney during that time of the year she went a lot and didn't have any problem with rides or bruising other then her stomach where the injections went

I do have a trip planned for next fall. With any luck I'll be off Coumadin by then but there's no way to know yet.


Oh yes, those lovenox injections are a beast! My stomach was so nasty and the bruises took nearly a month to go away. I was "lucky" that I was hospitalized while on it so I never had to self-inject, the nurses did it for me.

I take the generic of Coumadin (Warfarin) daily. I have been to WDW many times and have not had issues with bruises from rides(except for me being clumsy..lol). I think each person is different, my doctor gives me a full check up to make sure I am fine for the trip. He will also tell me at that appointment if he thinks I should refrain from some rides. I also have a device to check my blood levels, it helps keep me in check. If you do not have the device, Celebration Hospital can do a PT/INR test for you (had it done there one vacation before I had my meter).

Stay off Dinosaur and primeval whirl. I get bruises on both and I am not on meds nor do I have a medical condition that makes me prone. I won't even ride Primeval Whirl anymore because I think laying on the ground and having people kick me for two minutes would be less abusive. LOL. That ride is rough!

Sorry you had this experience I had a DVT when I was 35 following a very minor medical procedure. I was on lovenox on my trip and I think it really depends on your Dr and your dosage. My Dr was totally fine with the trip but said I should not ride anything with a pregnancy warning because you are really trying to avoid the same kind of forces and bumps. These are the rides on the list at that time:

I was also told not to go through turnstiles you push with your tummy but I think those are mostly gone now. I still had a great trip of course just a bit different.
