Not sure how the basic DDP can be too much food

It sounded to us like not enough food but we thought the plan was a value anyway. When we got there and had the plan we realized it was sometimes too much. We are big eaters at home, but in DW? We just don't feel like eating that much. For breakfast we'd use a snack credit for a muffin and pay OOP for a drink. For lunch we'd end up somewhere like cosmic rays. My mom and I split the chicken and ribs combo and still came out full- we had to pocket the chocolate thing which never got eaten. For dinner we each had a TS.
We found that at the end on both trips we had a couple of snacks left and an extra CS. Looking back it makes NO sense to me why we didn't eat. I mean, a muffin for breakfast with a juice, splitting a CS for lunch and 1 TS does not sound like much- especially considering we were probably averaging over 5 miles walking each day. I can't explain it but we eat more food at home than in DW. :confused3

I've always had free dining so value doesn't have anything to do with my opinion. For me, it's too much and not enough food. :confused3 I'll explain. It's too much when I'm actually eating. Even when it's a CS meal, it's (for example) a double cheeseburger, fries, drink, and dessert. I never eat the dessert. We all know how a TS can be too much food (especially a buffet). My problem is if I eat at a character meal for breakfast, I will be hungry by noon due to the amount of walking I'm doing, and that snack won't hold me until 8 that night. I eat late because we stay out late. Some days may start at 7am and end at 10pm or later. So, for me it's too much food when I'm eating, but I'm not eating frequently enough.

I don't think its too much food but it does depend on the person and how you use your credits. We get the deluxe plan and we are stuffed and don't eat everything but money wise it works out because we like the apps. We also do the 2 credit signatures at night and use the snack credits for bottled water, I can't do Florida water nor would I want to stand on line at a CS for a tiny cup of water. So to me, except for the app, its the same amount of food as the regular plan. Also we don't do buffets, which a lot of people do too, which then can be too much food too.

The DDP is just perfect for my family. Our MO is to eat breakfast in the room (cereal, donuts, fruit, juice, etc.). Then we use the QS for lunch and the TS for dinner with a snack credit to be used when the mood strikes.

Back in 2006 (the last time we visited WDW) the regular DDP included appetizers AND tips! Now THAT was a great value!

I don't understand when people say its' too much food.

buy a CS breakfast-omelet, bacon and a muffin.
Bring the muffin as a snack for later in the day.
buy a TS dinner-don't order dessert if you're full.
Use your snack credit at some point during the day.

How is that too much food? I just don't get it. Just because food is on your plate, you don't have to eat ALL of it.

I guess it depends on your eating style. Typically, we would use a snack as breakfast. Then, a CS lunch (with dessert) and a TS dinner (with dessert). I think people feel the need to order dessert because they already paid for it with the DDP. If you are not going to order dessert each time and/or split meals, it will probably work out cheaper to just pay OOP.

I think that the DDP is just enough food. If I was not on the DDP, we would be eating CS every meal. This is how we use our DDP, breakfast is something small in our room like pop tarts or granola bars. We always ship a box to our resort filled with snacks and breakfast items. We eat an early CS lunch and carry snacks with us throughout the park. We eat an early TS dinner and use our snack credit later at night. Sometimes we would use our snack credit for a bottle of water or lemonade instead of food. But, personally, I think that the DDP is perfect for the two of us.

I'm one of those people that thinks it's too much food. It's my opinion, and, I'm entitled to it. ;) I split a breakfast with hubby, split a lunch with hubby and pick a portable dessert, eat my TS meal and have to pick a portable dessert . Then, I have no use for the snack credit. Believe me, my husband and I can eat. It's not like I weigh 90 pounds or something, but I couldn't possibly eat a full CS, full TS, and the snack. Plus, most of the snack options are sweet, so now we're talking 3 desserts a day. I couldn't possibly do that.

On our trip this January, we brought 21 snack credits home with us from Goofys Candy Shop and froze them.

If I weren't going during free dining this January, I wouldn't get the plan. It's only $200 more to get 6 nights of DDP for my family of 3 than with the discounted room only rate I was going to use . So, I will gladly say no thanks to the dessert and not worry about it. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the answers about the deluxe plan, guys. Not sure why I didn't think of using multiple credits for signature dining (we even did that once on the basic plan for California Grill), but that makes a lot of sense.
