I'm going to Disney for the first time in October and read about this not so scary halloween party. I can't figure out what exactly it is, and whether it would be something my preschooler (age 4) would enjoy.

Also, do I need to purchase in advance-- I wasn't sure if this event sold out often?

Any tips would be appreciated.

It is an 'after hours' event. It starts at 7:00p, after Magic Kingdom is closed. They transform the park with music and decorations and lights. It's wonderful! They have a Halloween parade and fireworks. They have trick or treating. You can also ride the rides as well.

It's great fun and not scary at all.

It's well worth it IMHO.

I've been taking my girls to MNSSHP since 2002 and now I try and go every year (but we also LOVE MVMCP too!).

Halloween night sells out and usually the Friday before Halloween too.

The HP is wonderful! Not scary at all, they do dim the lights throughout the park and have colored silhouettes on the buildings of Main Street. It is so much fun. There is a reading of the "headless horseman" story in Liberty Square and the Headless Horseman (real horse, too) starts the parade. This is a different parade too, the characters are in costume, and the fireworks are different too. Everyone is given a treat bag upon entry and there are trick or treat stations set up throughout the park. You also have stations throughout to have a special free family photo taken that is mailed to your home. You get one copy for each mamber of your party. We'll be there on the 6th!

we took our then 3 yr. old last year and he had a great time! loved the parade and the trick/treating! it wasn't scary @ all-just a great time for the family! Yes you need tickets;we just called the dis reserv #. We received the free picture about 3 weeks later. Hope this helps,Angel

We took our 3 yr old last year too and she loved it. She just doesn't like fireworks. We all had a blast.
You need to purchase your tickets in advance if you want to make sure your day is available.

The one thing to remember is it doesn't get started until 7:00. So you need to be able to keep them going for a few hours. As preschoolers, my kids weren't nappers and there was no way we'd keep them going until 9:30 to make it worthwhile. I wouldn't purchase tickets in advance for that reason (unless you will be going on a sellout day - Halloween or the weekend before), if you get a no nap day, the tickets will be wasted.
