We leave in a few weeks for a cruise and our 3 year old is not potty trained. He will use the restroom if you sit him on toilet but if you don't at the correct time he won't even think twice bout it. I searched some of the posts but seem to be older answers. My question is are they allowing pull ups in the Oceaneer club or are we out of luck?

We went through this---it depends on the Club and how many kids they can handle. If they're not too busy, they may let your child in w/pull ups but they will call you if your child asks to go to the bathroom (and needs assistance) or needs a diaper change.

They may not allow him in the club if there are too many kids and they don't have the ability to monitor him.

For our cruise we had to start in the nursery first, then ask to be approved to go into the kids club.

I would call and ask the cruise line. Nothing on line says that they can't but the wording appears to be that they may not change him. I didn't see a price for the Oceaneer Club but saw that the nursery is priced per an hour. I have to imagine that you pay for the nursery because of the extra care given to 0-3 that require help with feedings and diaper changes.

It appears that an option may be to let him wear them and if he has an accident they can page you to come get him and change him. I've read on some other reports that CMs aren't allowed to help the kids in Oceaneer Club with the restroom and there is no where for them to store any items the kids bring.

For our last cruise, I called and was told that a non-potty trained child would not be allowed to be dropped off at the Club. But, when we got on the ship, I asked again. The CMs were very accommodating. They told me that they would allow my son in the Club with a pull-up. They even said that they would change him if he had an accident. I don't know if they allowed it because there weren't as many children on this cruise.

We didn't end up leaving him there, but it was nice to know that we could have.

Our son had just turned 3 on our 2011 sailing on the Wonder and was not toilet trained. At the time the per-cruise registration asked if he was trained and I said no. This directed us to register him for the nursery. When we got on the ship and I brought him to the nursery they said he should go to the club because he was 3 and he would be fine in pull ups. They cancelled all the fees and bookings for the nursery and they were great with him in the club. They just paged us when he was messy so we could change him ourselves.

When we were on the Magic a year later our son was 4 but still in pull ups due to some occasional accidents. The online check in no longer asked if he was trained so I registered him for the club. They did give him some assistance in the washroom but said they would page us if he had an accident ad needed to be changed. The one thing you should know is that the club does not let parents in the washrooms the children use for security reasons but you can just ask the staff to et you into the family washroom.

I am sharing some of the same concerns. DD will be almost 3 and a half on our November cruise and my DW is a bit panicked if she will not be potty trained. Hoping what I have read is true that they will allow the kids into the club but they just ask we come back frequently to check her out.

Hi! I had a similar question... I emailed disney and got a response back. I posted it on one of my board questions. Sorry, I tried to copy and paste it to this board, and can't figure it out :/
It is under "what is potty trained" for kids clubs.

"Potty trained" in Disney-speak means the ability to recognize the need to use the toilet, undress, use the toilet, redress, and wash hands without any assistance. DCL CMs are not allowed to "help" in any way.

AFAIK, from what I've read here, pull-ups in Oceaneers Club/Lab are not allowed.

I can't find your post, if you comment on it does it bump it to the top of the page?

The CMs are actually not allowed to enter the bathrooms. They also won't tell your child when it's time to go to the bathroom. They don't allow pull ups. Sounds like he would need to be in the nursery or wait to go a few months later when he's truly ready to be pull up free. FWIW my son didn't potty train until 3 yrs, 3 mos. He was completely dry without pull ups after a week. (We actually never used Pull ups during the day for potty training anyway. Daycare didn't allow pull ups. I just used them for night time). However, seeing as he had just potty trained I wasn't truly comfortable with him being accident free for another 6 months. I don't know if I would have been comfortable with him in the club on his own prior to that point.

Here it is.
I emailed disney about my concern for my son - which room he could attend and I got this answer. Just wanted to share:

Disney Cruise Line offers some wonderful Youth Clubs. Three year olds on the Disney ships are able to go to either the nursery (It's A Small World on the Dream and Fantasy, or Flounder's Reef on the Magic and Wonder), or to the Oceaneer's Club and Lab. The Oceaneer's Club and Lab are for ages three to 12, and are mostly for secured playtime without the parents. Counselors are on hand to guide the children in all sorts of fun activities. However, in the Club and Lab, children must be fully potty trained. Counselors are unable to assist with bathroom help.

If it comes time to set sail and you're still unsure of how he will do on his own, go to one of the Open House times for the Club. During Open House hours, parents stay with their children to play. It would be a great time to try it out, and even send him into the bathroom on his own, standing outside the door to see how he does by himself!

The other good news is that if you want to be sure he does have assistance with the bathroom and can still enjoy some time on his own while you sneak off for some adults-only time, the nursery is a great option. There is an additional charge of $6.00 per hour for the child's time there, and it must be reserved in advance. I would suggest booking this ahead of time, as hours do fill up there.

I hope both of those options give you some ideas of what you can expect on the ship. I bet that by May your son might really surprise you with his progress! Please let me know if I can help you with any other questions as you continue planning your exciting Disney cruise

Here it is.

So it sounds like even if they are 3 and a half they can still go into the nursery. I thought I read a post a while back where they said if they are after their 3rd birthday then they can't go into the nursery. This is good news though if they can in fact go into the nursery. Our DD loved it on the Fantasy! Some kids cried going in, but our DD cried going out!

When my son just turned 3 we put him in the Club. He was potty trained, but we still occasionally used pull ups as a "just in case" back up. He was fine in the club. We took him to the restroom before taking him to the club, had the potty in the restroom talk, and them he was fine for the couple of hours we left him (at 3 you probably aren't leaving him for 3+ hours).

No one is going to know he's in pull ups and all the cms that I talked to said its part of the job. Even kindergarteners sometimes have accidents (especially when playing in a new environment) and these are profession people who know all about working with kids and everything that entails. They'll page you in the event of any accident.

I explained to my nearly 3YO that he wouldn't be allowed in the pool on the cruise if he wasn't fully potty trained by April. Worked miracles!!! He not only asks to go every time now, he has started ... um... not being messy in his pullup, either. Worth the cost of the cruise. :rotfl:

If you ask the cruise line, they will give you the official response, but if you get on board and ask the kids club staff, they may be accommodating. The last cruise we went on, they told us that you can always use a pull up and they will just call you if it needs to be changed, but I am sure that policy will vary from ship to ship and day to day.

I've spoken to a few different Disney Reps and they have all stated that the Kids Club can be quite accommodating. My daughter sometimes gets caught up in playtime and forgets to ask to go to the potty. My plan is to stop down every hour or so and just take her myself to make sure she's gone. I don't intend on keeping her there very long but if shes enjoying herself I'm not going to pull her away either. I find the Pull-ups Cool Alert to be the 'thinnest' for hiding under clothes. I HATE Easy Ups, super bulky!

Not being potty trained is also affected with swimming pools. Maybe use that as an incentive for the child to try hard to be potty trained completely

I'm glad to see that many have had good experiences with the kid's club staff and this. DS should be fully potty independent by the time we next cruise, but I may feel better having him in a pull up just in case. I think most kids and the staff would much rather have a pull up accident than a wet clothes accident.
