Not so good Christmas surprise.

So I was woken up very early this morning with a phone call. My Grandmother had been take to the hospital because she couldn't breathe. Come to find out (after a very looooooooong morning) she had suffered congestive heart failure. We are still very unsure how things will turn out, they say they will have more info in the morning. I hope my DIS friends can keep her in their thoughts and prayers. I don't have a relationship with either of my parents and she is the closest thing I have ever had to a mother. Thanks for listening, you guys are the best!

Hi Melissa. I hope you have learned more about your grandmother since your first post and that things are OK. I just want to give a little info that may give you some hope. Im an RN and Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a condition that many people live with. I know it sounds VERY scary because it has the words heart and failure with it. It IS a serious condition, but people can continue to live many years with it if properly taken care of. Hopefully your grandmother's breathing will be stablized and they can help her get rid of the excess fluid in her lungs and she will recover to better health with a little time. Kim has given you very good information. My Dad lived with CHF for many, many years. The key is to be sure that they stay on their meds and that they watch for an increase in body weight. With proper care your grandmother will be with you for a long time. But I'll add some too
