Not seeing your bags with the airline checkin process?

On the recent cruise we were on, I noticed that some of the staterooms recieved special airline luggage tags where once they put out their luggage for the evening before disembarkation day, they don't see their luggage again until they pick it up in their destination city - is this someone has experience with? Sounds incredibly convenient and would be interested in learning more about it - if there is a thread already on here that explains this is process - if you can point me in that direction, would be greatly appreciative of your help! TIA!

We did this on our Fantasy Cruise in January. It was amazing. There were a few requirements you had to meet to participate in the program. Here is what I remember:

1. You have to be flying on one of the airlines listed in the program. (I don't remember what they all are we were on Delta)
2. You're flight has to be after a certain time. (again I don't remember the time I might have been around noon. Our flight was at 2pm but I know you could be on a flight that left before that)
3. You have to be taking Disney transportation from the port to the airport after the cruise.

All I had to do in order to sign up was fill out the paperwork in the back of your cruise booklet with all of our flight info and give it to them at check in. Then they last night they delivered our boarding passes and airline luggage tags right to our room. We saw the bags again when we landed in Detroit. It was very easy and I would do it again in a heart beat and I'm awful when it comes to checked bags on airlines. The longer it takes for our bags to pop out the closer I get to a full on panic attack. My DH won't let me go to baggage claim anymore, lol.

For MCO: If you are on a domestic flight on a participating airline, with a flight after 11:30 am, you can have DCL check you in. Your (checked)bags are picked up the last night outside your room (remember to leave clothes out to wear the next morning :rolleyes1) and you won't see them again until you get to your destination airport.

We've done this a couple of times. It's great.
Here's the information we got on our last time:
From Port Canaveral: (from cruise documents 8/9/2014)
The requirements are below
    • You must have purchased DCL Air and/or DCL Ground Transfers
    • Your flight has to leave from Orlando International Airport after 11:30 am on the same day your cruise vacation ends.
    • Your flight must be on a participating airline:
AirTran Airways (no longer in business)
Alaska Airlines
American Airlines (USAirways merged)
Delta Air Lines
JetBlue Airways
United Airlines

· Your final destination must be within the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands)

· Each luggage piece can weigh no more than fifty (50) pounds.

· Airline specific baggage fees may apply and can vary by airline. Please check with your specific carrier for more details.

· Applicable airline baggage fees will be posted directly to your shipboard account.

· Some Guests may be selected to check in at the airport and may not be able to use this service.

Well, DCL and SouthWest did a trial month about a year ago, but both opted not to continue it.
interesting, I wonder why they opted out?

i was shocked at the line for SW check in though when we left MCO on Sunday, it was like Thanksgiving travel week busy-level.... it would seem one whole side of MCO is just SW, we ended up checking our stuff with the guys outside because that line moved a lot faster

It is called Airline Check-in. Certain airlines participate. It is correct, you will tag your luggage with all the proper documentation and it will magically show up at your final destination (unless you travel internationally and need to claim for customs). Others have pointed out a lot of the program.

One thing to consider is that if you have purchased any liquor or duty free items that cannot be carry-on, you need to go through additional steps to get it into your checked baggage. The short summary of this is, do not put airline luggage tags on the piece of luggage you need to put the items in. After you get off the ship, collect that luggage, put your items inside. Caryy luggage to the Magical Express, and then check in at the airline ticket counter once you arrive to the airport as normal.

Where did you see no flights before 1 now? I just looked at DCL site and they still have no flights before 11:30. Your info is always correct so maybe DCL didn't update their site.

I wish I had kept the name of the person who posted it. I usually update my info sheet when someone posts things that are different than I've experienced. I'll see if I can find it.

I'm going to remove that part, until I can find it.

If you have a flight that qualifies and taking the bus isn't financially prohibitive, it's a fabulously convenient service.

Glad you did that. Always keep that as a possibility! Tipping those guys a little bit is better than waiting 45 minutes to check bags. :)

Yep.

We usually fly United and I've thught about doing the airline check in service but I always have stuff that I need to put in my checked luggage, like my hair products, my face products, make up, clothes from the night before. So for me it's just easier to pick up all our luggage and Cart it to the airport. It helps to be Premier so I can usually skip the longer regular lines for checking baggage.

I would use it if I had little kids, but in general we keep our bags with us whenever possible.

Just to clarify...it is actually Onboard Airline Check-In (OAC).

Also Shmoo....I just found this on Scott's Blog....it is a PDF and it talks about 1:00 pm time frame.

We used it and it was great. Especially if you have a long wait at the airport. You can roam freely rather than to holding on to your luggage until they accept it for check-in. Most airlines won't allow you to check your luggage earlier than 4 hours before your flight. So if you have a late afternoon, you are stuck with it at the terminal. Of course, the trade off is you can't get the stuff in it the last morning. But if you plan it ahead of time, most people can live without their luggage. It is such a great program.

Ah.... but it really doesn't say that the flight MUST be after 1:00. Only that if your flight is before 1:00 you should be on an early bus, and if it's after 1:00 you can catch a later bus.

I'm still looking for it. I can't recall who posted it, but I do remember someone posting that they were told "no flights before 1:00" on their cruise on another "what time should I book my flight for" thread. Maybe they misunderstood the 1:00 thing.

But that makes sense. Thanks.

I'm thinking I've seen the 1:00pm time for a different port -- not Port Canaveral and MCO. Miami maybe?

I was the one that posted it. I, unfortunately, tossed the sheet that said it when I was lightening my backpack load. It was not the document linked in the post above. I received that one but it was an additional page that said bags would be pulled if flight was before 1pm. I'm absolutely positive it said that because someone else I was traveling with read the pages she received and mentioned it as well because we had considered an earlier flight. However, if no one using OAC has reported an issue with earlier flights, perhaps it's not something enforced or will be enforced in the future. I haven't seen it anywhere online, only on one sheet included in the OAC packet we received the last night.

What cruise was it?

I was a little concern the first time I did this but it worked out fine and it was convenient. However since my first cruise I haven't used this service because I fly in two or three days prior to my cruise to enjoy the local sites or visit the parks (depending on my cruise departure location).
