Not ROFR thread - general discussion

We were at Animal Kingdom eating at Tusker House and watched it out the window. Thankfully missed the whole thing, never even had to break out the ponchos. Fingered crossed for tomorrow at HS!
Yes hopefully it turns out like to tonight, no rain after midday.

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one…. so much more free time when you’re not stalking the availability page….
I'm amongst good company. We're booked for 6 nights in a 2BD at CCV over Thanksgiving, and are now thinking of adding on one night in a studio (just to save on some points, we don't mind split stays!) to make it a 7 night trip. Got some waitlists set up (BWV and BCV, why not!) and will also play the stalking game to try to grab something. The night I need has popped up a few times since I started looking earlier this week, but not at the resorts I'm aiming for.

back to the DVC slots!!!!

I forgot to post after this some might find it interesting why DVC gets so many international purchase. ESP currently younger people on instagram.

As soon as the conversation turned to points/money the first thing said was as we are international we pre qualified for finance at 9.9% apr.

Then the chat about how this means low monthly payments with a small deposit.

The pre approved was mentioned a few times.

had to circle back and share! successfully grabbed one night in a studio for the end of my Thanksgiving trip. I had waitlists set up for BWV and BCV, and also have been stalking a couple of times a day. Plenty of other studios have popped up for the night I needed since I started stalking (VGF, Poly, OKW, SSR, AKV-K, BLT all briefly showed up as available) but I was holding out for specific resorts or view types, so didn't grab anything I saw while stalking. Waitlist came through just now for a BWV resort studio! Excited to have an extra day at WDW!

Something that has been playing on my mind since August after our guide went high pressure.

We travel mainly in August due to partners job. So I always thought June or August use year would be optimum.

Guide tried to tell us an October use year would be best for us.

I assume he suggested that as thats what contract month was being sold by DVC at the time. He did mention he could easily get us an October use year.

Am I correct in that June/August would be correct. DVC field guide and other guide books say that is correct and that October is one of the worst for our travel dates.

So was my gut feeling correct and the guide was wrong.

An October UY would be ok for June travel, but definitely not for August travel. My rule of thumb - determine the months you are LEAST likely to travel to WDW, and try to make those come just before the start of your UY. The guides always have a UY they're supposed to be selling, but I'd be surprised if that were October in the months leading up to October because that would sort of be the worse deal for Disney because they'd have to give you points all the way back to October 2024. Setting aside which UY is best for you, your guide might have have been trying to steer you towards the UY because that would have been a pretty good economic deal for you. But, you definitely want to pick a UY that is best for you over the long-term. (And, you can get that when buying direct if you know what you want going in and tell them that - they won't lose a deal over it.)

I did question him about a June/August use year and he told me they would be the worst for travel in August. I will chalk it down to high pressure sales not working and me know more about DVC then most who he normally deals with.

My only explanation is that, if you're buying a June or August UY in August, you won't be getting full advantage of previous UY's worth of points. The ideal time to buy (economically) is just before the next UY will start. But, in my experience, the guide's don't do that - they typically sell a UY that is 5 or 6 months in the past so they can both say, you're getting points all the way back to 6 months ago, but without giving away almost an entire year of points. When I bought in April, my guide tried to steer me toward December (I bought October). In August, I would think they'd be selling a Feb or Mar UY, but maybe I'm wrong.

At any rate, if your expected travel is August, a June or Aug UY will work just fine. Sept/Oct would be the worst. December through August would be just fine as well. If you can figure out which months you are least likely to travel, then you can pinpoint an even more ideal UY.

That is strange and doesn't make sense to me for the Guide to suggest an Oct UY to your travel patterns.

We travel down there mainly Oct through May, so our UY is October.

I would have thought yours would be June or Aug if you are doing your trips in August. Oct seems like the least ideal option for you.
