Not really seeing/reading any hype about the opening.

It is weird, isn't it? All I see is what's on WDW's homepage. I think maybe media attention went to the DL opening, and a copy of it opening in FL is not as big a deal to the non-Disney crowd.

I'd think most of the bloggers etc have already been to DL. We've already seen what it is so it's not as big as when no one knew exactly what it would be like.

Yeah I think it’s more or less because it’s already open in DL and has already had previews. I expect hype around RotR opening though.

If you check Twitter, all the focus is on D23, Epcot news, and the Disney+ launch. It’s a big thing for Disney+ to compete with Netflix.

There may be a moratorium on SWGE articles...there had been one in place for DL’s SWGE and actual land details couldn’t be posted until media day.

I've posted this on a couple other threads.
I just came from DHS and all the CM I talked to are ready and hyped, they are scheduled to arrive very early, 3am to 3:30am opening shifts, parking lot CM are scheduled over night. Everyone is excited.

So the lack of "news" doesn't mean that the actual people you will encounter in the park and land, are not super excited

Agreed. The annual passholder preview slots started selling out within the first 20 minutes they were released. It might be drowned out in the media but on property it's all anybody is talking about.

Question for those already (or always) in Orlando-have the predicted throngs descended yet? The way GE opening was looked at in the beginning, I felt like it would be like all the residents from a small planet would arrive in WDW for the 29th. I will be watching the boards and lines apps to see what I can expect in a week-or maybe in a week it will be safer?

I can tell you that a large group of friends from the sww age are planning to camp out starting at midnight, including Linda Skywalker :) it'll be like old times and im so excited.

The old times thing, to be honest, is the main reason I want to see GE. Star Wars was the first movie my new husband and I saw together after we married in 1977, and our son, born in 1980, grew up playing with the toys, most of which I had the sense to hold on to, His 6 year old, going with us next week, also has those toys and his own newer ones. And he is super excited, especially since I told him I doubted we could even get in. Now with Oga's reservations there is at least hope......

What’s going on with that? It’s like no one cares. I’ve not seen any hype at all. It’s like swge died before it even got started.
As others have said, there happens to be a lot of other Disney news happening at the same time. And while SW:GE is a big deal in Orlando, it has already opened in DL, so some of that hype isn't there. But believe us, there is hype, and the buzz surrounding it will be anything but dead from here on out.

Agreed. One point that I don't recall being mentioned here (but it may have been) is that 80% of attendance at DL is AP holders. AP holders were blocked out from SWGE. Hard to achieve hype when you restrict 80% of your customer base. Fortunately, the same won't be true for WDW.

I listen to a Toronto radio station (as in Ontario, Canada) and they have been blasting commercials about opening day for WEEKS! I think i could recite the entire thing myself now :P

Just saw that a tweet that there is currently, as of 5a, a 2.5 hour wait for the ride.
From the tweet
We decided to go later. Since we saw it for our preview not going to try opening up the land

Exactly
I don't know why folks were shocked about attendance at DL. When you black out most guests there aren't going to be huge lines
It may not be 80% but it's high. Higher than WDW without question. It's very obvious when you go out there that not having an AP is rare

Two hours after opening and MF:SR is at 240 minutes, down from 300 minutes about a half hour ago.

I would not say not having an AP there is rare. They still get loads of tourists. I love Disneyland (far more than WDW), but I cannot justify an AP since I don't go often enough.

Personally I don't care for the game type rides (participation) so the Smugglers Run holds no interest to me even though I'm a SW fan. I won't be excited/interested until ROTR is running.

All I know is everytime we go the CM ask as if expecting you to have an AP anytime you buy something or eat somewhere. WDW never does this, you have to tell them, I have an AP. DL appears to assume you will have one. Sure they get loads of tourists but I’d bet the farm that the percentage is lower at DL. That’s all. And it’s been clear by the attendance how many AP that can’t go can impact crowds.
