Don't always assume the airbnb reviews from travelers or site photos are correct. We ended up in Edinburgh flat which looked amazing in photos and reviews from travelers were good. But oh my, it was disgusting bathroom, and pull out couch - ugh. There was 5 of us, price ended up $325 per night, so really could not move during high season. No choice, location was the only good thing. And wifi did not work at all. After this trip, I hesitate with airbnb overseas. Do not trust the reviews or site photos. It really impacted my enjoyment of the trip, the first post covid trip.

If I could upload the photos you could see why I was really disappointed/disgusted.

We filed complaint just to get some of the money back because we had to use data to make arrangements, but airbnb denied our claim. I posted my honest review, but I don't trust it anymore.

I would be a little disgusted by the venice accomodations too, sorry....

I didn't see that the OP said that it was an AirBNB or a hotel. Call me skeptical, but there is no way that I would ever book and AirBnB, especially in a foreign Country because, as you said, how can you trust them. We all need to be more informed, better educated travelers. It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of a trip, but realistically, everyone should due their in depth research for months.

Oh my. That looks like a nice hotel! Looks can be deceiving.
It looks like it is owned by a company that you should be able to contact about your stay (Graspodeua?)

Nah, it's independent. If reception had ever been manned, I would have complained! All I can do now and have done is leave a stinking review on a hotel website and eMail the hotel owners. Not that they'll care. It will all be excuses, excuses. But I can't do nothing!

To chalk it all off, I missed the waterbus, so was late to the airport, where in a rush I tripped and fell, breaking my foot. Oh, and I nabbed a look in an alternate room in the "hotel"... talk about lap of luxury! I was one of only two rooms in an annex. Looks like I landed the stinker.

BUT. You get what you pay for!

You broke your foot?!? This sort of seems more significant than a bad hotel room. What kind of ordeal was it to get medical attention? Were you transported to a hospital or urgent care? How long did this delay your departure? Did you have medical and trip interruption insurance? Have you ended up in a cast and on crutches? It sounds like the worst possible end to an unfortunate weekend. Sorry.

It's ok. My foot is purple and swollen, but getting better. There were some great good samaritans at the airport who helped me to the plane; they even gave me a ride on the luggage trolley! Really the main thing that was injured was my pride!

Next time you’re looking for a hotel always read trip advisor reviews first. They are usually pretty accurate. I never book a hotel before reading the reviews.

Frankly for the foreseeable future I'll stick to what I know or what is reviewed as a shining star. No more gambling on reviews that might swing one way or another.
