Saturday June 17th
Today we had reservations for breakfast at 1900 Park Fare, so of course we were up early again. We had planned on catching the bus to the Magic Kingdom and then the monorail over to the Grand Floridian, but one of the other familes on the bus with us was talking to the driver about their reservations at Chef Mickeys so the driver took us to the Contemporary and we got off to catch the monorail there. The CM at the monorail was very funny, telling jokes and funny stories. When the monorail came the family in front of us asked to ride with the driver and invited DD to ride up front to, and when they got off the monorail driver came and got me so I could ride up front for the rest of the trip. We both got stickers and pilot licenses. The Grand Floridian is such a beautiful hotel and DD and I had a few minutes to walk around and check it out before time to check in for our reservations. Upon check-in we were greeted by Mary Poppins, and then Alice, the Mad Hatter, Tigger, and Pooh came around for pictures and autographs while we were eating. The food was good (especially the biscuits and gravy). When we were finished we decided to walk along the beach to the Poly and check it out. It was about 9:30AM and the beach was completly deserted. We played tag and follow the leader until we made it to the swing on the beach at the Poly. I sat and relaxed for about half an hour, just enjoying the view and the quiet while DD played in the sand. We walked around the hotel before getting on the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. We took the boat over to Fort Wilderness - what a pleasant ride. We were the only ones on the boat. At Fort Wilderness we walked around a bit, trying to figure out where everything was because we had reservations for horseback riding later in the day, we stopped by the petting zoo area and then got on the bus to head over to the Wilderness Lodge. Awesome is the only word that I can think of to describe this hotel! We walked around and checked it out, we wanted to see the geyser erupt and we waited and waited, but it never did. We were going to grab something to eat here, but we were still full, so we just got something to drink and spent about half an hour resting on a bench (it had been a very tiring week and we were both running out of steam by this point). We took the bus back to Fort Wilderness and found the area to check in for our horseback rides. I had never ridden a horse before so I was kind of nervous, but it was lots of fun. If you ask DD what her favorite part of the trip was she will tell you that it was the horseback riding. We got on the bus and headed back to the Wilderness Lodge for dinner at Whispering Canyon (we had lots of back and forths between the 2 that day). That place was sooo much fun. We had TONS of food, enough to feed at least 3 more people. The milkshakes are the best
. DD asked for ketsup and of course we ended up with a table full. Okay, I have to stop here and tell a story from when DD was in kindergarten - I would send her off with hugs and kisses of course, but I would also tell her not to take any wooden nickels. Well, one day she said "Mom, can't we just pretend that I'm older and I can take any kind of nickels that I want to?"
Flash forward to Whispering Canyon, all the kids have done the pony race thru the restaurant and promised 9 times to never go to Universal Studios, and then they all get a prize. DD comes back to the table and I can tell something is up, finally I get her to tell me what her prize was - you guessed it - a wooden nickel!
After dinner we headed back over to Fort Wilderness (again) for Chip and Dale's Campfire Sing-A-Long. DD got a bag of marshmallows to roast and we had a great time. We watched part of Chicken Little before we headed to the beach to watch the Electric Boat Parade. DD played tether ball while we waited and after the parade we hopped on the 1st boat back to the Magic Kingdom and were able to watch the fireworks from the boat (thanks to whoever posted that tip). We beat the crowd to the bus stop and made it back to the hotel by 11PM. This was one of my favorite days at Disney.
Tomorrow - we're going home
