Not getting email notifications

Thanks so much for all your help!
Could someone explain why Aol allows me to get email about enlarging bodily parts I don't have, but they block email from the Disboards?
I don't appreciate the attitude of the "TECH masters".

The problem with AOL is if ANYONE reports the e-mail notifications as spam it goes into their spam filter. With AOL 8.0 it is very easy to block spam and some people are ERRONEOUSLY blocking mail that they have signed up for and/or is not spam. Unfortunately that affects ANYONE getting the same notifications, even if you did not report them as spam. I have had similar problems with other AOL mail.

If you have an alternate e-mail address that you can use for the notifications that would be the simplest fix. :)

Also, if you upgrade to 8.0 you can also try the spam blocker but even though I use it daily I STILL get all sorts of e-mails about prescription drugs, body part enlargements, septic tanks and refinancing my mortgage. ;) Spam is hard to squelch, unfortunately.

Michelle,
I appreciate your informative and kind response.
So far, I can't get anywhere dealing with AOL.
Am I to assume I am on my own with this and just plain S.O.L.?

Thanks for any help!!

FYI - When I turned my e-mail notification OFF, I stopped being able to see my subscribed thread when I clicked on User CP. It showed that no one had replied to any threads I had subscribed to but yet when I went into the actual threads they were lots of responses after mine.

I turned it back on and it started working again! What gives?

Have you tried to shut it off (notifications) and re-subscribe to one of them and see if it works that way?

JC

Yup, I turned it off and then replied to about 10 new threads afterwards. Didn't get squat. :( ;)

Not just reply, but un-subscribe that thread and re-subscribe to it with notifications left off.

What I did was turn it off yesterday. Nothing in the CP and I posted on a lot of new threads (even created some) during this time and didn't get anything even though I could see that people were posting new entries on these threads.

I turned it back in today and all the threads that I posted to and created are now showing up in the CP, but not any prior to turning it back on.

Are you catching my drift? ;)

<font color=navy>I have the same trouble w/AOL (which is what I use). I'll check & see if yahoo.com works - that is free email, if anyone wants to use it.

That part makes sense because it was off.

Now you lost me. Are you saying the threads that were there before are gone alltogether or just not updating?

So, my problem is being ignored. What a surprise!

I'm using CompuServe and nothing here either.

Yes, I have also not been receiving email notifications for quite a long time.... Posted on the Tech Board... Ignored... Assumptions that it was something on my end....

Well, low and behold... All of the sudden, I am NOW GETTING NOTICES AGAIN!!!! YEY!!!! :Pinkbounc

I am beginning to wonder if turning off 'email notifications' and then turning it back on may indeed help??????? It seems like my problem started when I chose to unsubscribe to a thread/threads??????

There is (or has been?) a true problem here.... I am not an AOL user, I never changed any of my settings, I do not have any type of spam-blocker installed, and never did anything at all to my knowledge to cause my notifications to quit working, or to start working again????

Has anyone elses started working again recently?

I keep my email notifications disabled. I hate getting those things.

I have never used the function...I get enough emails. Hoping it gets straightened out for you all :)

Montessori,

I don't think you are being ignored at all. I know that the techies have been trying to figure out the problem and just don't have an answer right now.

Sorry for the frustration, but it doesn't look like a simple fix. Doesn't mean that nothing is being done, though.

Hey NativeTxn and Patrick, These notifications are actually convenient, instead of nuisance, for DISers who who have to be selective, and cannot spend lots of time on all the boards! ;)

If I do not have time to do a lot of DISing... I can still know that somebody did reply to something that I am interested in. Also, that I have a new message in my mailbox. Then I know to hop onto the DISboards to reply, and I do not miss anything. :D

I tell you, I know how these computer technical problems can be. Sometimes they aren't solved overnight!!! But, maybe if the Tech people would just acknowledge that they believe that there is a problem.... Otherwise, it is kinda like going to the doctor, and they tell you that nothing is wrong and the pain is "All in your head..." LOL!!!!

Oh I understand what your saying Wishing on a star :) I just never used them. I get a ton of email with the moderating and the photo gallary. I am not very "technically taliented" so as far as the glitches I can only assure people our techs are doing everything they can. One thing I will say from personal experience... Dealing with AOL from a customer or problem related aspect is a nightmare. I never had them as a carrier, nor would I recommend them to my worst enemy. Again I say that from personal experience...they gave out my home number as one of thier call out numbers and WE had to change it after 20 years since no one could rectify the problem. My phone rang night and day and they could care less.
Secondly when my kids come home and put AIM on my pc, the pc does terrible things and I can not wait to dump it. Again, its just personal experience :)

When I turned off the e-mail notification, I stopped getting e-mails that someone had replied to a thread that I subscribed too. That was great!

The problem is that when I log onto the DIS, I always click on User CP to look at subscribed threads module. After I turned off e-mail notification, this module was always empty even though people were replying to threads I had subscribed to. This meant I had to go a look for my thread and see if anyone had replied. :(

In a nutshell, I think that turning off the e-mail notification also turned off the subscribed thread module in CP.

Does this sound right?

Explain how you turned off the e-mail notifications exactly.
