So, we are all set to go to Disneyland for a few days next week and I'm totally not excited at all. That's never happened before. I was so excited for Halloween Time and I should be super excited to go for all the Christmas stuff since I haven't seen any of it since 2007 and that was only half a day. But for some reason I'm totally not into it. Has this ever happened to any of you before? Am I losing my love for Disney or maybe I'm just going back again too soon after Halloween? I don't know. Anyways, I'm really bummed out.

It's the same thing I was talking about in the Christmas thread last night - I hit a wall in my planning and my brain got tired. And then I just felt blah about the whole trip. I didn't care. It's the Pre-Trip Blahs (not to be confused with the Post-Trip Blues that will come later!). I think it happens to many of us, judging by the replies I got in the other thread. For some reason, we just lose interest right before our trips. It can happen when you haven't been to DLR for years, and it can happen when you were just there recently. It just seems to happen. We just get burnt out.

It's the same kind of weird phenomenon as it is to just get back from a tiring DLR trip and be glad to be home, thinking you have had your fill for a while...and then the very next day you are missing DLR and planning to go back!! It works both ways - getting too much Disney at the parks and burning out, then yearning to go back almost immediately upon returning home, AND planning and being excited, then getting burnt out and exhausted before the trip ever happens!!

But, mark my words, the excitement will come back and you will be swept up in the magic once again when you get there next week! You may even feel the excitement coming back before you get there.

Hi--

I don't know how frequently you go to the Park, but here are a few suggestions that I have used when my kids were teens and in the difficult years when Disneyland didn't seem that exciting to them. (of course now they are each married, with children of their own and go all the time again!!)

Go on the attractions in a special sequence---year of completion, alphabetical, length of ride.

Each day only go on certain rides---the year of your birth, only rides that came before you, or only rides that came after your birth.

Put the names of the attractions into a hat, and pull choices.

Go on attractions that you have never been on.

Make the trip into a rally--go on everything once.

on your first day of the trip notice something obscure, the next day mention what you saw and have the rest of the group try to find it.

Eat at different venues than usual.

Cathy

There is very few experiences that can top walking through the tunnel and looking up at the sign.

We just got back on Saturday and the same thing happened to me before we left. Don't ask me why, I was so excited when we finally got on the plane and got to DL. I'm sure the excitement will come rushing back, it's probably just you have alot on your mind with packing, the holidays, etc. distracting you away from the magical place you are about to go to. Lucky you that's for sure !!!

Thank you Sherry. I haven't been keeping up with the Christmas thread because I just wasn't feeling it. It's good to know it's a normal phenomenon for us Disney lovers. And you're right, I'm sure when I'm there or on my way that I'll start to get excited again.

Great ideas Cathy! I never thought about anything like that. I usually go about 4-5 times a year for 4-5 days at a time. I'm definitely going to take some of your ideas and try them out.

Ok, honestly...I burst into tears seeing that picture. I think that is it...I'm dealing with so much unpleasant things in my "today" that I need to escape and leave today behind. You know what, I'm going to take a moment when I get there to stop and read that sign and let it sink in. Now, I think I'm getting excited just to go see that sign and take my own picture of it. Thanks, Skiingfast.

Thanks Kailuagirl. You're right...I'm am lucky and grateful that I get to go as often as I do. There are so many people who will never get to go.

You mentioned that you are dealing with a lot in life right now. That can REALLY interfere with getting excited about a trip. Don't worry. Once you get to Disneyland, you will be immersed in your surroundings and for just a few brief days, be able to forget about "real life" and enjoy. THAT is the magic. :)

I have been in the same position. Planned the trip, not excited, dealing with big stuff in real life, and worried about wasting the money on not enjoying. Then, the moment we got to WDW - bam! - so excited to be there!

Give yourself the break you deserve,
Dreams :)

Thanks Dreams. I know ya'll are right. I've got two days to go and went and did the trip shopping, donuts and snacks for the hotel room...that kind of stuff. I got my hair done and now I get to do Disney laundry. You know, the laundry you do before packing. Got my suitcase out. My boy still doesn't know we are going. I almost called and canceled yesterday. But I decided you guys are right and once I'm there then everything will probably be a-ok.

Thanks again everyone. :goodvibes

As long as you have your health for this trip, I would be very excited. Every time we have gone we always are sick or get sick. This past trip we incurred a $1000 physician's bill and didn't get reimbursed for it until 8 weeks later through our insurance. The trip was ruined, and the sad part was, it was a re-do trip. We had been going once a year for the past 5 years, and now will only be able to go once every 2 years or so. I am crossing my fingers that our next trip during our 20th wedding anniversary in a year and a half or so, that we are all healthy and able to enjoy the trip.

I know crowds are scary. I hate them too.... but, as long as you have your health, and are not holed up in the hotel room with illness, be very very happy. :) :goodvibes

Sometimes I get over planners burnout the closer I get to our family trips. Mainly because I do 99% of the planning and saving for them. I think it's more accute for the person who's doing all the planning, while the rest of the family get's to have fun thinking about the trip, and not all the little things leading up to it. I get very calm in the days leading up to the trips to the mouse, and it's nice in a sense that I can take a step back once the trip starts, and then let DH do all the stressing out over it from that point on and start to enjoy it. The thing that's kept me gung ho about our upcoming trip in Feb is that I'm plotting and scheming against the kids and planning on surprising them the day we leave on vacation. I enjoy plotting against the kids, keeps me feeling young.

No worries, it doesn't mean you'll never go back, it just means besides the holidays you might be a little burnt out. I finally hit that stump after I got back from my trip in July. I just don't have an interest in "going" to the parks. I mean yeah I get good deals and I can stay with my family that lives there, but I was like let's not come back here for a while. So that way it can be all new to us. I am however planning to come back but just for the Disneyland 5K next Sep. I've got it all planned out and everything. I am hunting to plane tickets as we speak and I think my SIL is running with me so it should be a ton of fun. Maybe, you just need to see other things you haven't done in the parks as well? Like I only used to ride rides, but I think if I go again I will see more shows and ride less rides. Try to find something that will bring the thrill back. Like for me the 5K is going to get me pumped up and hey it's not every day you get to run through Disney and not get yelled at for funning. I want to run the 1/2 Marathon there too someday but I think I will try local ones first. :)

I was going to post this same post cause I'm in the same boat as you.

Today I told my DS4 that we were going to Disneyland tomorrow and he is very excited! Watching him get psyched has gotten me psyched. As much fun as it is to surprise the kiddos I now think that letting them experience the anticipation and excitment building up also helps me get excited too. I've got my suitcase on the bed here and have been packing bit by bit today and the more I do the more I'm starting to get over the blahs about going. I also caught that Guy Fierro DL Holiday treats special today. It was the first time I had seen it and that definitely got me excited. Now I can't wait to try me some yule log. Thanks to everyone for your encouraging words, it definitely helped. I almost canceled out the other night altogether but I just hung in there and now I'm glad I didn't cancel. I would have been bummed out. I think, too, that I was kind of getting Christmassed out too. But now I'm excited to see the parade, fireworks and Fantasmic which I haven't seen in 5 years or so.
