Am i the only one not excited about mision space? To me it is just another ride me and my family won't ride, what happened to the days of the disney family rides. The ones you and the whole family could set back and relax and enjoy.I have no problem with thrill rides ,it just seems that lately disney is doing nothing but that.Epcot was once fun and all about the future and now it is just a high tech thrill park. What is next 6ft dropps on Its a small world? Sorry to complain just needed to vent a little:confused:

Out of 95 'attractions' in the 4 main Theme Parks only 9 can really be considered thrill rides. Almost all are family attractions (Alien Encounter being the notable exception) once the kids meet some height requirements.

I can understand the frustration when you see a new attraction go in and you know it's not something you'll enjoy (I'm sure many adults felt that same feeling when Pooh went in), but that's the beauty of Disney.... there's something for everyone. :)

I don't think I am going to like the new Mission Space. I don't like throwing up...

I wish they were looking at doing an under the Sea type ride where 10 000 leagues used to be. Now that I would be excited for. I also wish for them to better Innoventions and bring the ride back but better at Living Seas.

I agree with some about not being interested in Mission Space. It will be fun to see the things that go along with it, but the ride itself no. After reading on another site about the ride, noone in my family will ride this ride. I do also agree with the others that have said...It's Disney, there is something for everyone. You have to have "THRILL" to balance out the "LAID BACK". JMO

My brother will not go to WDW with his two teen-age sons due to the lack of real thrill rides!! He ony does Universal and Busch Gardens. Now me, I won't do Universal because it is too thrill ride oriented. WDW is perfect for my family. I guess it's all in the perspective.

Mom of 2OH,
Where has everyone found info on this ride?
Would love to see what it is about.

Thanks..

P.S. Maybe we will see you in Oct 2004!

I know disney has something for everyone and that is the reason we love it so much. But it just seems that recently everything new is thrill oriented .i couldn't wait to take my daughter to see the epcot i loved but now it is almost gone with more thrill type rides.not to say that change is bad but it seems that it is slowing becoming something other than disney's vision for a future world.

Did someone hear that this ride will case stomach sickness? Is it just those prone to sickness or is something different about this ride?

In the last four years Disney has opened 11 new attractions. Only 2 of them are "thrill rides" (Test Track and RnR Coaster). Along with opening Mission: Space, they will also debut Mickeys PhilharMagic. But with the opening of IOA, I think they needed to add more variety to the parks to keep the older kids from dragging their parents away from Disney. It does seem like they're trying to cater to everyone, including the tiniest guests who now have 3 Dumbo-type rides to keep them amused.

I'm curious as to which rides at Epcot are now thrill rides, besides Test Track. When we were there in May we commented on how much more Epcot has to offer children then when we first took our son 9 years ago.

Epcot replaced world of motion with test track and now horizons is replaced with mission space, both seem to be thrill rides to me.In my point of view niether have to much to do with the original concept of epcot. Also IOA may pull some crowds away from disney but disney has always stood the test of time.

Where does everybody get the idea that Universal is just thrill rides? They only have two roller coasters (Hulk and DD), Spiderman (combination Honey, I Shrunk..., Body Wars/Star Tours, and the "track" rides, like Buzz), and Dr. Doom (like TOT, only outside). The rest are all attractions like WDW, with many being very similar (MIB=Buzz, Earthquake=Catastrophe Canyon, stage shows, etc.). I think the idea that WDW is only for little kids and UO is only for teens and young adults has been way overblown by too many people on these boards. I do both resorts and love them both for what each has to offer.
OK, I'm off my stump now ;) .

What are u talking about? Epcot needs some more excitement. Mission Space is going to be AWESOME. Hopefully, it will be open when I'm there at then end of june!

I personally could not be MORE excited about M:S!!!! I dreamed of being an astronaut since I was 3 years old and this is probably the closest I will ever get. :D
As far as comparing Disney thrill rides to US, most don't even fall in the same category. I love roller coasters, almost all thrill rides, and all the "tamer" rides as well. To me, M:S sounds like a whole new breed of ride, not at all to be compared to a roller coaster. It sounds like it will be totally innovative and unique. As much as I love IOA's awesome coasters, I can get the same thing an hour away at Six Flags. Its how Disney does it that makes the difference!

Don't really know where to refer you on-line. The first detailed information I was was in an "Imagineers" special that aired on the Travel Channel back in December.

The jist of it was that the ride would begin with a simulated spacecraft launch (more Space Shuttle than Star Tours), and at some later point would include at least a few seconds of actual weightlessness.

Word is that they actually have a functional version of the ride up and running in Epcot, but the current challenge is to tweak it properly to reduce the vomit factor. Apparently at present it's far too nauseating for most riders.

Opening is still scheduled for 2003, but any more precise speculation is currently just that....speculation.

I hate that this ride is not recommended for those with hypertension problems. I've battled this since I was very young so I guess it's out for me.

As far as the coasters at Universal being the same as the coasters at any amusement park, I guess that maybe BOTH of the coasters there are in many ways. I'm excited to visit Universal because of the variety the parks offer just like at WDW. But for me at least, it's getting harder and harder to enjoy Epcot. :(

What upsets me is that at Epcot they are not adding new rides (like TOT or R&R at MGM), but replacing old favorites with the new rides. My family always enjoyed what we called the "museum" rides at Horizons, World of Motion & Spaceship Earth. Now there is only one left & hopefully that one will not change too much when they rehab it.

WDW is FULL of Family rides, but they have to appeal to a broader audience. Sorry you aren't excited, but I am sure for every one of you who aren't there are about 5 who are. Me included!!!
