Not enough DME tags

I know I should have done this a while ago, but I just counted our DME tags and it looks like we may be short by 1 or 2. I've read that you can just give the DME CM's your airline luggage tag and they'll find it. Is this really how it works? Is there anything else I can do to make the bag more easily identifiable? I'm also worried as one of them is a box. I really should have done this 2 weeks ago!

we just cut the tags in half, & use each half on different pieces of luggage (make sure the tags are secure) - we've never had a problem

else......just go to the DME counter in MCO (guests don't always receive their DME tags in time, lose/forget them, etc).

I thought about doing that, but was worried that our other luggage might not be identified properly.

we've used halved tags, 2-3x a year, since DME's inception & every single bag has arrived with tag intact.
as with full tags, do make sure they are secure.
