Not Disney related but Six Flags

I doubt they will win a lawsuit,,,They (the kids) were in a "restricted area" with signs posted, and climbed a fence or wall besides. With all due respect,,,I'll put my money on the park. ºOº

It won't go to court. The park will settle out of court. It will be cheaper for them that way in the long run.

My sympathies to the family. It's never something that parents can understand, but I feel that at 17 a "kid" should have enough common sense and not do something like that. It isn't as if he could just walk right in. And I wonder too how valuable a hat was that he felt he should do something like that. It's too bad for everyone.
And I think too that Disney does one heck of a job keeping people safe. Some people will takes chances in spite of precautions.

Right,,,a $3.00 hat VS a PRICELESS life..Leave the hat where it lies. Get a park person (don't know what Six Flags calls their employees) to retreive it for you. ºOº

This reminds me of a news story from about a month ago up here in New England. Two girls (~14 or so) skipped school one day because they missed the bus. They decided to lie down on the railroad tracks (a bridge, so it was tracks and water underneath with no other place to lie down on the bridge) and get a tan. A freight train drives at around 30mph, but slowed to 15mph, tried slowing down, beeping the horn, etc. and the two girls woke up at the last minute, tried to scramble away. One lost toes, the other lost her leg; they are very lucky to be alive.

There are signs posted that the area is off-limits, just like this fence that was jumped over.

It's unfortunate that the teen died, but at 17 he should have had enough common sense to not jump fences around a roller coaster for a hat. It boggles my mind how anyone would even consider the area safe enough to access while the ride is actively boarding. I feel sorry for those that were on the ride, can you imagine waiting an hour in line, getting on the roller coaster, being happy/excited, and then a head goes flying by your seat?

Well said.

No judgments here, it is just tragic how the 17 lost his life.

Prayers go out to the family and everyone involved.

This thread is a best fit on the Rumors and News board since it is not directly connected to planning a trip to Disney parks.

I've moved it there.

Thanks,

Wow. That is pretty callous of you to pass judgment on the kid after he lost his life in such a tragic way.

You show me a 17 that never did anything stupid and I'll show you a kid who never left his house.

Thinking back on the things I did at that age made this look like nothing.

I'm shocked how little sympathy some people have for a kid who died so tragically.

While the SF company has many failing's they arent at all anyway responsible for the death of this moron!!!!!! People arent callous at all when commenting on the death of someone who died in suck a reckless manner of his own choosing.

I feel sorry for the people who are unable to ride The Batman coaster yesterday and again Sunday!!

This person is a candidate for the 2008 Darwin award!!

I married a wonderful man who was a crazy reckless teen. I was considered a "good girl"/honor student, yet I made sooo many mistakes as a teen. I raised 2 daughters and thought I'd never get them safely through their teens. I've been there to hold my friends' hands when their teens have screwed up. And now I have a granddaughter who is a teen. And I know she will make her fair share of mistakes. I just hope and pray that of all the stupid things she'll try to pull the next few years, none will cost her her life.

Of course it was a stupid thing to do from a mature perspective. But thinking like a teen, it's not so irrational to jump a fence and enter a restricted area to try to get a favorite cap. Thinking like a teen, you know it's not safe, but you don't think it's ever gonna happen to you...We all did things as teens that were just as stupid. We were very lucky. This kid was not. He won't get a chance to learn from his mistake as the rest of us did. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

So sad!! We don't live far from there, but never go. Once I went to Disney,I had no interest in going to Six Flags anymore. It's just beyond me why anyone would want to climb 2 fences to get into a restricted area. I'll have the family in my prayers, I couldn't imagine...

well, that is horrible!. if that was me, i would just buy another 1. :). and anyway...once it's gone, most of the time you can't get it back anyway, only seen that happen once

Hats that kids are wearing today go for alot more than that. My DD wanted to get a friend a hat for his bday until I saw that it cost $36. No Way!!!!!
Even if this kid had one of these hats it's still not worth risking a life over. Tragic!

I was at the park the day this happened. We were on the other side of the park and didn't know anything about it until we heard about it when we got home. Sad!

It is hard to feel overly sympathetic when this kid is getting insane media coverage for being careless while there are people dying every day to diseases without cures, or to a war they might not believe in, or to a natural disaster that occurs, etc.. Stating that all 17 year olds do stupid things doesn't make it any less careless to me, it just sounds like you're trying to justify your actions as a teenager by saying "so-and-so did it!"

Is it a tragic occurence? Yes. Is it sad that he couldn't learn from his mistakes? Yes.

That's my opinion, and nobody has to accept or approve of it.

Wow. Pretty harsh. But like you said it's your opinion. I am just amazed how you can use this as a platform to talk about all the ills of the world. I hate the fact that our boys are dying in Iraq and all the horrible disasters we have seen in the last few years, but I do not put the two together.

My point is, he was someone's son and my heart breaks for the family.

I have many friends in Iraq and I lost several people in 911 and my heart breaks for them everyday. I just haven't become so synical that I can't feel horrible for the way this 17 year old died.

I hope you are never judged as harshly.

That's my opinion and no one has to accept it.

he hopped two fences, that clearly stated danger zone and high voltage. All kinda warnings. So this was clearly preventable this is the second death on the batman ride at six flags over ga

that is why I love disney - not only cant you get to those areas of rides really, but there is security everywhere (even if you dont see them). WHERE was security when this kid climbed TWO fences!

WHERE WAS SECURITY?????? The question is WHY can't people respect rules? We shouldn't need security to enforce obedience. We live very near Six Flags over GA, and while I feel very badly for this young man's family, I can't fault security over a conscious decision he and his friend made to violate the posted signs.

I agree. I'm shocked at how many people want to blame Six Flags for this. Teenagers are responsible for their own actions. It's terrible that this happened, but it could have easily been prevented with a little bit of common sense.
