Not Disney related but Six Flags

It 's all over our local news. This is the second death around this coaster area in a year. Both situations people were in restricted areas.

He and a friend went over TWO six-foot tall fences with warning signs.

that is why I love disney - not only cant you get to those areas of rides really, but there is security everywhere (even if you dont see them). WHERE was security when this kid climbed TWO fences!

I was looking at the pics with those articles and 3 people from Disney had either gotten hurt or killed while riding the rides....Most were due to heart failure but still that faulty platform on top of KALI RIVER RAPIDS....ScArY!

With 100,000+ people in the 4 parks every day, the sheer number of people pretty accurately reflects that sometimes, people are going to die in the parks. I don't mean that morbidly but seriously, does anyone expect 100,000+ people to be perfectly healthy EVERY day.

I think relative to the general population, Disney parks deaths are pretty darn low. Heck, I'd even consider retiring to a Disney park to increase my longevity! LOL

Where did you read about a faulty platform causing problems or injury at Kali River Rapids? I'd like to see that one.

I don't recall anyone (a GUEST) ever being killed in WDW on a ride. Then again, I may have just not heard about it.

Apparently the young man was trying to retrieve a hat that fell off him when he rode the attraction [the news said today]. Very sad.

At that age especially, you really don't think something will happen.

Six Flags here has what I consider horrid security.

(Remember last year a kid was beaten at the bus stop 2 feet off property and security did NOTHING because (A) they claimed they didn't see it and (B) it was "off property". Of course the kids had spent all day and a lot of money at the park, but.... The media then did a search and the number of "crimes" at this park was pretty amazing. I don't think they have security!)

A young man lost his life and a family is hurting today. That is the real story not what his actions were or park employees actions. That will be for others to look at and investigate.Me I am saying a prayer for family and friends that are in pain today. Danny

:thumbsup2 Thats whats needed most!

I stoped going to six flags over georgia a long time ago. I got tired of being in a cue line and having gang fights break out. that happend more than once, and frankly I pay to much money to get in to have that. so i stopped going.

I just read the AJC article. Apparently, the two boys (one was not injured) had been in the park earlier and had left to get lunch. When they came back, instead of going through the front entrance, they decided to hop the fences. Why? Who knows. I know people are upset and send out their wishes but this was plain stupidity.

The boy was 17 and on a church outing. His family was in the park at the time of the incident.

I'm sure Six Flags will get sued even though this was entirely preventable (why hop a fence instead of walking around to the entrance?).

The Batman ride is closed today but will probably reopen tomorrow. No one else was injured and there were plenty of witnesses. The entire story will probably never come out, not even from the second boy. The first person to call 911 was an off duty police officer who was in line for the ride.

We live an hour from the Six Flags in Gurnee Illinois. Has anyone been to this park recently? My daughter received a free park pass from school, and we are considering using it sometime this summer. I just don't want to go if the park is unsafe. It has been YEARS since I have gone to Six Flags.......

Very sad. Although this was not the park's fault.

All kids have moments of doing stupid things, it is part of growing up. The sad part is some kids don't live to tell about it.

Very sad.

horrible news and I dont mean to make light of it, and yet I cant help but see the irony in losing his head while trying to retieve his hat

I agree, however, I think the family will file a lawsuit and receive millions of dollars, in spite of their child's actions. It is just a fact in the period of time in which we live.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but me and my 2 dd's are going this Tuesday. They have really cleaned up the park, and they have security in the park. I stopped once to look at a map, and security walked up to me and asked me if they could help. Parking up close is $25, out back it is $15.

Here's a link to a local TV station's article about the Kali River Rapids incident.

I don't think any guests have been killed on a ride at WDW, but unfortunately two guests lost their lives at Disneyland due to Disney's negligence. In 1998, a guest waiting in line for the Rivers of America ride was killed when a rope gave way and a metal cleat went flying through the air and hit him in the head. In 2003, a train derailed on BTMR and a riding guest was killed. You can read about both incidents (as well as seven other guests who died at Disneyland due to their own negligence :sad2: on the Snopes site.

I doubt they will win a lawsuit,,,They (the kids) were in a "restricted area" with signs posted, and climbed two fences besides. With all due respect,,,I'll put my money on the park. ºOº

My sympathies to the family. It's never something that parents can understand, but I feel that at 17 a "kid" should have enough common sense and not do something like that. It isn't as if he could just walk right in. And I wonder too how valuable a hat was that he felt he should do something like that. It's too bad for everyone.
And I think too that Disney does one heck of a job keeping people safe. Some people will takes chances in spite of precautions.
