Not budget related at all... just need to vent

OP - I've always been of the opinion you should choose whatever you want for your career - be it high-powered exec, or garbage person or anything in between.

Just LOVE what you do!

Don't worry about the jerk...Karma is a fine reward!

I understand what you mean. I AM a band director and still have people who don't understand that I'm a teacher :confused3 My own students (6th graders) are like "What do you do for your job?" I tell them "This IS my job" and they just don't get it. Just roll your eyes and continue to do what you love.

Honestly guys- I can't thank you enough for your kind words!! I have never encountered people that really 'get it' until now!!

you get to teach"officially" to your own terms....no government regulations, no administrators casuing limits...holy heck, if I had a choice of being taught/trained in music by you or the "other guys" I would go with you every time. On top if that skilled profession you have a SECOND career which is also one to be proud of. Maybe once the bragarts obtain a second career they will be on an equal plating field of camparison. Seems to me that they have a lot of catching up to do and area all talk and no walk. You have job security with your music school.....you are your own boss...glad you removed the toxins from FB:thumbsup2

You should be proud of yourself that you are doing what makes you happy! I have a BS in Restaurant/Hotel Management with a focus on...Event Planning! But I'm not using it..due to a variety of circumstances I'm working completely outside of my field..and I really hate my workplace but it gives me the three things I need from it (freedom, health care and a passable paycheck..the most important of which is freedom). It works for me and what you are doing works for you and you enjoy it on top of that, so you are fortunate! There will always be people who think they can tell you how to live your life..the earlier you learn to ignore them the better for you.

Don't worry. I AM a teacher (although not of flute) and people comment that I am a teacher because I couldn't make it "in the real job market". [Those who can DO. Those who can't TEACH. :sad2:] So you can't win either way. Just be happy with what you are doing and don't worry about what people say. Because people will always say something, regardless of what you do.

Tell them you aren't teaching in a classroom because you don't have to be there.

You are sharing your talents with students because you are an entrepeneur and have started your own business. Also you have a wonderful opportunity to perform music in your community.

:thumbsup2 I LOVE THIS.

Anything that puts food on the table for your family..you should be proud of, especially if you love doing it. If you don't love it, but it still pays the bills then who cares because ultimately all jobs, the best and the worst are just a means to an end, and who cares what other people think.

You know what, you LOVE what you do. I wish I could say the same thing. I can, all I ever wanted to do was to be a wife and mother and I am I love being available to my children and to take care of the things that Dh can't while he is at work (in civillian life he is a teacher but currently he is on active Military service so he is not at home now at all). I do love that it is what I always wanted truly. I also have a degree and certification in education and taught Pre K/preschool for 4 years stepping down at the end of last year for various and many reasons I won't get into but suffice to say I loved the kids but I was miserable with all the other stuff. It was supposed to be something for ME and it didn;t turn out that way. My kids are getting older and I want to have something for ME. I sgined up for subbing at my kids schools but haven't gotten any calls so far. I feel like because I am not currently "working" that I am not of value and I shouldn't feel that way. You have something that you love doing!! I have to admit I am jealous of people that can say that I wish I could. Don't let anyone bring you down for doing what you love. Chances are the ones that try to do not love what they are doing they way you do. Keep doing what you are doing something can be said for being happy in what you do.:thumbsup2

I can honestly say that this is the first time EVER that I have begun to feel proud about what I do :littleangel:. You all are absolutely right! I love doing what I do and why should I feel the need to answer to anyone else about that?! :confused3 Why do they get to dictate what is right/wrong/good/bad in MY life?! Just to make themselves feel better I guess.
