Okay...I know I'll get pelted by coconuts and broomsticks for saying this, but we were so disappointed in 'Ohana. Had high expectations and honestly, we thought it was just so-so.
BUT, Kona Cafe looked interesting. We went there for breakfast and enjoyed it and were thinking of trying dinner there. The menu looks good.
Would appreciate any feedback you'd like to offer!
Thanks.

pelted by coconuts & broomsticks :rotfl2: I love it! I personally love  O'Hana, I did have a bad night there in Sept that I was not to impressed with. You should give it one more chance. Did you like the dessert? Oh that is my FAV  I have had dinner at Kona, & I loved it too. I had the filet, & there was a yummy sauce on top. Also the potatos that come with it are pretty tasty. They have scrumptuous desserts too.

I am not so sure I want to try it again... When we went on our honeymoon we fell in love with Ohana! Loved the shrimp wontons, the bread, the pineapple with caramel dipping sauce. Now, those things aren't even on the menu.... So, I'm afraid if we go back we'll be disappointed too.

I agree with you I loved all of those things too, & Sept was my first time trying the new menu. So I think I was a little disappointed. So I went back to give it another try in Jan, & I ended up eating there twice during my trip.

Maybe we'll give it a whirl. I really thought my husband was going to cry when he found out that they got rid of the pineapple and caramel though!! :rotfl2:

I loved Ohana when we went but mostly for the dessert and the app's. Since they changed the menu I don't think I will be going back. My new favorite is Kona though!!! The sticky wings are to die for......I can't wait for my next trip just so I can eat there again!!!!

We haven't been back to O'Hana since the menu changes, but plan to give it a try on our next vacation anyway. As for Kona, we LOVED our dinner there. The food was delicious (I had beef teriyaki, DH had something with shrimp/scallops and the chocolate lava cake was incredible).

Kona was was of the highlights of our last trip. Great food and service! It was our first time to eat there, and we've never eaten at Ohana.

no pelting from me, I agree. We went there for my birthday dinner and were so disappointed, the meats were lukewarm and tough, and the shrimp were gross, the appetizers were lovely but not worth the price.

We are returning this year but for breakfast with Stitch as our DD is in love with him ....

But Kona was wonderful, can't wait to have the sticky wings, and to try the steak terriyaki yummm

I *loved* the old 'Ohana, (10/10) with the grilled shrimp, fried rice, shrimp filled wontons and fabulous green beans (I still make those at home!) but we went to check out the new menu with an open mind and wasn't impressed either- thought the *saved* items were just as good, but the stir fry was hard and horrible, the sausage was bland, and the wonton chips were cold, greasy and flavorless. I loved the honey lime dressing on the salad and the dessert was amazing but that does not a 20-something dollar dinner make so overall I thought it was so-so as well and I wish they'd bring the old menu back (maybe I'd give it 5/10) I won't be back unless there are some changes. And I'm actually very sad about that.

Kona, is a fabulous place - (9.5/10) Breakfast is a dream. (10/10 hands down) Lunch and dinner are just as great. If you look on the post Disney Food Pics thread you can see our meal from lunch- sticky wings with a mustard drizzle that were sweet and spicy and perfectly cooked, Kona chowder which is a rich lobster bisque with lobster, fish, crab and shrimp! (so delicious and full of that sweet fresh seafood taste!) and a lunch plate with grilled Mahi Mahi, sticky rice, and Hawaiian macaroni salad. The Mahi Mahi is possibly the BEST tasting meal I had in WDW. It was so flaky, white and fresh tasting, and the sauce was the best. Caramel Banana Creme Brulee tasted good, but the texture was just too firm for me to rate this place a ten. The Kilauea Torte oozed chocolate ganache and smelled lovely. I only got a bite, but I can tell you it tasted like the best part of a homemade chocolate chip cookie- the buttery crispy notes with the ooey semi sweet melted chocolate flavor. I had a dinner at Kona about 7 years ago, as well. It was awesome, I don't remember what I ordered, but I do remember trying to steal extra bites of my friend's macadamia crusted mahi mahi. We plan on doing Kona next August- for dinner as well as Breakfast. I would highly recommend it.

We loved breakfast. But the best thing I can say about dinner is I got to watch the fireworks. The food wasn't that great and we won't go back for dinner.

pixiedust: We ate at Ohana's for the first time in Nov 05. I have come to not have high expectations of any resturant only for the fact that some of my old favorites have not come through. We loved Ohana's. The only meat I didn't like was the sausage, but everything else was great. Nice and tender and hot!!! I didn't try the stir fry only because there was so many better things to eat. And for those of you that loved there pineapple and caramel sauce, I read that you can order that for your dessert and they will bring it out in stead of the bread pudding.

But don't feel bad if you didn't like it. Different strokes for different folks!!!

We were also disappointed with 'Ohana, and won't be going back.

Kona, on the other hand, is one of our very favorite WDW restaurants. The food is delicious. :)

BC of everything I had read on the DIS about Ohana's, I tried like a mad woman to get in there on our trip in October. Tried the entire time we were down there, plus about 1 month prior to leaving. (Last minute change of plans pushed our vacation up so I had to redo all my ADRs. :confused3 ) Long story short, they were booked solid. I was very disappointed, but the CM on the line with me suggested Kona Cafe instead. I didn't know much about Kona but thought we may as well give it a shot. We arrived at Kona and it honestly looked more like a food court/counter service type place than anything else. We had to wait almost an hour even with our ADRs. I was watching the people walk in over at Ohanas and I will admit it: I had Ohana Envy. :furious:

We finally got our table and had our meal and I have to say that it was hands down, the best meal we have eaten at DW. Everyone in our party agreed. We were on the Dining Plan and our server was WONDERFUL in that she really helped us get the most for our credits. The kids loved the fact that they were able to order chicken noodle soup as an appetizer. (Big soup eaters) DS still talks about it to this day. The sticky wings and Kona Chowder are worth the trip to DW alone. The Kilahua Chocolate Torte was out of this world and the kids LOVED their Kona Cones.

Here's a pic of DS with his Kona Cone:

And DH with his Kilahua Torte:

Very yummy indeed. So I guess we wound up at the right place, and now Kona Cafe is a MUST for any future trip. DS even told me "Mom, next time we got back to DW, I have GOT to go back to that place with the chicken noodle soup!"

Okay so I probably will get pelted too but I thought Ohanas was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had at WDW (8 trips over 12 years) and I ate there last Christmas holiday for the first time with dh and ds. Overpriced, overcrowded, rushed like crazy, food was really sub-par, waiter was less than enthusiastic - I was so bummed because I had really looked forward to the meal and we made a special effort to get there to do it.
I also think Kona's was ok but nothing special. I guess if I were staying at the Poly I would eat there for convenience sake but not make an effort to go there for a meal - it was not much better than my local Coco's or Carrows.
I have so many great food memories at WDW but none of them are at the Polynesian!

We had an ADR at 'Ohana last October, but I cancelled it because the menu changes really ticked me off. We have never been there, and most likely we won't ever!

We had dinner at Kona and it was FABULOUS!! I had the crab cake appetizer, the macadamia nut mahi-mahi, mashed potatoes and asparagus. Those were not the sides listed, but they were very gracious about switching them for me. We were allowed to add a side of shrimp (covered on the Dining Plan) which was very tasty. For dessert we had the cheesecake, which they were kind enough to box for us because we were STUFFED. It was far and away one of the best meals of our trip. Can't wait to go back there! :)

No pelting here either. We were at 'Ohana in January 05 with the old menu and decided it would be a must do each trip. We were there again in October 05 with the new menu and it moved way down on my restaurant wish list. I'm disappointed because I love the setting.

I love Kona Cafe. Always try to have breakfast there - tonga toast, juice and Kona blend. We have been there once for lunch and I'm really looking forward to a dinner sometime. Love the pot stickers appetizer and want to try the sticky wings, chowder, and macadamia nut mahi mahi. The setting is unpretentious and very pleasant.

No pelting from us. After all the raves on this board, we tried it last August (old menu). We were shocked -- we thought the food was poor quality -- tough meats, fair appetizers, absolutely nothing to get excited about. As for the ambience, well . . . . the Circus Circus buffet in Las Vegas is quieter and more refined than Ohana's. The entertainment was off-key and loud to boot.

All in all one of the most memorable of our WDW dining experiences -- and I don't mean that in a happy way!

Any chance they may return to the old menu?

:guilty: What.. they changed the menu?????? I have a ps for our upcoming trip.. can someone direct me to the new menu... im very sad, my family has always made this a must do on our trips.... what is not on the new menu.. the wings??? tell me that and i will cancel without furthur knowledge of other items??? please help. Eileen
