Not believing what's in the Unofficial Guide!!!

Well as a Carolina Panthers fan who lives in South Florida (I hate the Dolphins) I can tell you that MANY MANY MANY, if not MOST people in MIami and South Florida that are Dolphins fans, cannot stand Ricky Williams.

I certainly don't doubt that (and, boy, has he been a bust this year)-- I was just pointing out that one can support drug publicity in several different ways. One could be buying a book with a drug joke in it and one could be supporting a team financially (merchandise, tickets, advertising) that uses a chunk of that money to employ a highly-public drug user.

Btw, Civileng68, you and I have differing views, but I appreciate the tone with which you have posted -- thanks and Merry Christmas.

bunnysmom, I appreciate your point. I just believe that with all of the peer preasure, tv and movie portrayals, and whatnot, that a one-line comment in a travel book is not a big threat. If a child is that susceptible, he doesn't have a hope.

I do not condone drug use. My husband smoked pot when he was a teen, quitting when he was a freshman in college. He managed to become a responsible adult. Reminders of his earlier stipidity, frankly bring a smile for the fun he had and a thankfulness to have gotten past that point. Acting like drugs and alcohol don't bring some good feelings/times just makes the parent out to be either ignorant, or a lier.

As a kid of an alcoholic, and mom of 2 children killed by a drunk driver on Christmas Eve (I also delivered prematurely the next day, causing 3 more excruciating months of fear and grief), I find condoning alcohol use by anyone to be a bigger afront. I guess it just depends on each person's history. Everyone has his/her own bias in life. I still don't think references to alcohol should be removed, though.

OT...if you can't be a fan of a team with drug/alcohol abuse, give up sports entirely. It's like not going to church because there are sinners there. :)

Christmas still throws me a bit. :guilty: I apologize if I have offended, and wish everyone a wonderful holiday season. i will now quietly go back to planning for vacation 30 days from now. :earsgirl:

I agree that most people (myself included) who didn't find the comment funny started out saying just that. Nothing more, nothing less. Just 'not funny'. When we were then accused of having no sense of humor, having our heads in the sand as regards our children, not having enough dialogue with our teens, etc, it got a bit wearing.

I'm very happy to see some sense of common ground emerging, with the subsequent 'I hear your point even if I disagree' posts. :)

While this topic isn't really a TPA&S topic any more, there isn't a debate board and I didn't want to pass a heated topic on to Community Board (where a lot of posts would have been eaten alive! ;) ). I'm so happy to wake up to a more understanding tone in this thread today.

Can we agree that some find it funny and some don't, no more than that, no less than that?

Right! Hey, I like these threads on here. I think they get more attention. If this were the "other" disney forum out there that is popular, it would have been closed a long time ago due to the lack of maturity over there.

I agree with you Cleo. I think the real debate started when people started refusing to acknowledge why the other side would feel like they do, instead of a true debate where you respectfully disagree and state YOUR reasons for YOUR stance, NOT why OTHERS should NOT defend THEIR stance.

I think the debate, as long as mature is incredibly fun and really provides incredible though into the subject.
