Not appreciating Disney Parks.

When I was planning last year's spring break trip to Paris, I posted a question about Disneyland Paris on frommer.com European message board. Boy did I get scolded for wanting to spend a couple of my days in Paris at Disneyland!!!

There's a woman I work with who talks about how she "should really take" her daughter to WDW....like she really doesn't want to, but it's an "obligation" of childhood. She just sighs over and over again how it would be a waste of $$ because they are "just not amusement ride people". I've given up trying to explain how much more WDW is. Some people get the magic :goodvibes , some people don't.... :(

I think there are two different kinds of people who don't 'get' Disney.

First and most obvious are the people who don't like amusement parks. This is perfectly acceptable - crowds, rides - not for everybody. As we all know, there'd a whole lot more to WDW than amusement parks. But, truth be told, aside from the amusement parks, there's not that much in WDW that can't be found elsewhere. So, if you don't like amusement parks, WDW probablu isn't for you.

The second kind of person who doesn't 'get' WDW are the people who object to it because it is all contrived. It isn't real. This is a valid opinion, whether you share it or not. I love Disney, but I would never spend all my vacation time there, because there's a whole REAL world out there, and I'd like to see that too.

So, while I agree that people shouldn't be condescending towards others, based on their vacation choices, I understand where they're coming from.

And some of the "don't get it" folks just don't realize that it isn't what they expect since they have never been there.

They think they won't like it because they don't like "carnivals"! :rotfl2: AND they don't even want to go try it because "it costs too much for something I'm not going to like".

My DH was one of these and the only reason I got him to WDW for his first visit was because both sets of his parents (he has 2 pair) decided to give us $2000 earmarked for our honeymoon for a wedding gift. The 2 sets don't communicate at all, so it was kind of funny they came up with the same gift - even to the dollar amount! Anyway, rather than deal with the politics of explaining we were spending it on something else or whatever, we just went on a phenomenal honeymoon. DH wanted to go to Bermuda and I wanted to go to WDW - SO WE DID BOTH! He agreed to go to WDW (very grudgingly :) ) because we were also doing his trip. I think it took about 1 1/2 days before he was a total convert. I can remember him saying it wasn't anything like he expected....

The first time we went my hubby went because the kids and I we're excited. He got there and spent the whole vacation walking around with his mouth open. Since then ( many years later ) he has convinced several of my friends husbands to give it a try. :flower:

I have had quite a few people ask "Where are you going on your Honeymoon?". When I say WDW some people look at me like im crazy. I've also been told "Why dont you go somewhere "good"!? Its your Honeymoon!" Give me a break!! As far we are concerned there is no other place we would rather be going!!

Oh..don't mind your co-workers. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If WDW means nothing to them.. that's their opinion. Some folks are just not into Disney not like like us. Just let it go.

My family do not care for Disney they much rather see the other side of the "World." Whatever floats their boat...

I know what you mean. Just last week I listened to a co-worker tell about his family's President's Day weekend trip. They made their first trip last year during spring break. He says there's nothing there that interests him (and I doubt they've come close to seeing everything WDW has to offer), complains about the long waits for rides, etc. etc. I pointed out to him that unfortunately his first trips were during two of the most crowded times, but he just looks at me like, so what? Since his wife is a teacher, they don't have much choice. I told him he'd be better off crowd wise to go right after school is over but who knows if they'll go back.

WDW is world class entertainment. I wonder if those who look down their nose at a WDW vacation realize there are people who are rich enough to go anywhere on the planet, yet choose WDW. :earsboy:

Maybe they are just saying oh because of the disappointment in the fact that you went to disney and they didnt. I like that idea better then believing that ANYBODY wouldnt think disney is grrrrrrreat.

I for one know that once my kids are grown and out of the house I will STILL be going to disney. Every year we say...next year we will do something else and every year our something else is ALWAYS Disney. I dont know about you but the very first day we talk about where we want to go this year for vacation and Disney comes up I'm hooked. I get that funny disney feeling in the pit of my stomache and I cant wait to get there.
Gotta love disney.

Doin the disney shuffle
