Sorry guys I didn't want to post this but I am not sure what else to do since this was some what unexpected.

DH lost his job yesterday and we have an upcoming trip in Feb. He will be paid for one month- I thought it would be better to move up our trip so he doesn't have to start a new job and then tell them he needs a week and a half off. What are the rules or policies about changing your trip when you are in the 45 day window.... Can I move it forward or move it back without a penalty? I know if I cancel I will lose my deposit.

This sucks. Any advice is appreciated.

I believe there is a $50 change fee. Somebody with more expertise than I will jump in here and tell us if Im wrong!

So sorry to hear about your situation. There are a lot--too many--of us here in the same boat.

Hang in there, and have fun on your trip anyway.

Angela's right. I checked the terms and conditions page (for 2009) and the change fee is $50 and any difference in price - but if you can be flexible on when you go and where you stay it might work to your advantage. Last year, at about this same time, I was able to change my reservation to January (from April) at AKL without any hassle so it is worth a call. I would also explain your situation to the CM and see if they will cut you a break.

I also checked trip insurance - you didn't say whether you bought it or not - but it excludes changes made due to financial circumstances.

I am so sorry for your predicament. I hope you go and have a good time.

well i would just talk to managers a the resort your staying at it cant hurt sometimes disney magic works!

oh no, how terrible- lots of thoughts your way!

Sending good thoughts and pixie dust your way:hug:

 I'm sorry to hear this. I hope you guys can work something out. Good luck. :goodvibes

I'm so sorry to hear about your DH's job. I hope you can change your vacation plans without too much hassle.

I feel for you guys. I love how companies feel they have to get rid of folks before the new fiscal year starts.... I certainly hope for your sakes that he is able to find something soon. With this economy, it's pretty rough out there. I had a long severance, but it still runs out....

I actually cancelled my trip for this week (supposed to be leaving tonight) because of starting a new job on the 12th, but I was laid off for over 11 months (highly specialized radiology profession).

You didn't say if you were driving or flying. If flying, make sure you check regulations and change fees. Non-refundable tickets have to be changed ASAP - they are worth absolutely nothing if you wait until after the flight departs. Frequent Flyer tickets have their own expiration guidelines. For example - on United, we have to use the ticket and return within 6 months of our initial departure date - that means we have to go by June 1. Not happening for us. Therefore, we have to pay $150 per ticket to get the points put back into our account or rescheduled onto another date with different routing. Stinks, but our only option.

The change fee will be waived if your total goes up. That may happen on its own depending on how your current and new dates would fall in among Disney's seasonal pricing.

If the price stays the same or goes down, just try adding a few days to your ticketing. It's a negligible cost that would be better to pay instead of the change fee.

If, however, you're within 2 weeks of arrival, the fee is $60. $50 of it will be waived, but you'll still be assessed a $10 documentation fee.

I didnt have insurance and we had a death in the family last summer. They let me change my dates without penalty and never once asked for proof. I would just explain the situation to the CM they are usually very understanding. Good luck on the job front my family has also been affected by this rotten economy.

Thanks all for your thoughts and pixie dust!

Luckily we don't have plane tickets yet we were going to wait and see if we could get a last minute deal and just drive if we couldn't get a good rate. One of the groomsmen from our wedding just moved to Atlanta and said we could stay with him for an overnight since it is our half way point. I know we are crazy for driving from Iowa. We have the most basic ticket and the most basic room so it would be easy to upgrade to hoppers, preferred room, or even a dining plan. Right now the trip is still on. I'll keep everyone posted! Thanks again!
