Nostalgia?

So, I just invited my mom to go with us in 19 days. She hasn't been since 1981, but she was raised in the area and went all the time as a teenager (she was even able to meet Walt himself at one time), my question is, is there an attraction that shows old pictures or tells the story of Disney, just somewhere where she might get a sense of nostalgia from her younger days? With young kids we usually skip over these more informational attractions so I am completely clueless  TIA!!

I haven't seen the show, and I may be completely off base here, but I think there is something called "Disneyland: First 50 years" at the Opera House??? Hopefully someone else will chime in with more info.

found more info... this is from wikipedia

Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years is an exhibit about the history of Disneyland. It is located on Main Street, U.S.A. in the Opera House, which since 1965 had housed Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. In the lobby are displays featuring models, photos, concept art and sculptures associated with many Disneyland attractions. There is also a scale model of Disneyland as it appeared in the summer of the opening year 1955.

The second portion of the attraction is a movie which is shown in the Opera House's theater. It features Steve Martin, who once worked at the Magic Shop on Main Street, and Donald Duck. The movie is a 17 minute long humorous look at how Disneyland has changed throughout the years. After exiting the theater guests walk through the Disney Gallery, which includes many original paintings which adhere to a Disney theme. The Disney Gallery was moved to the exit lobby of the Opera House to make way for the Disneyland Dream Suite above Pirates of the Caribbean.

This attraction premiered on May 5, 2005, and is playing a temporary but indefinite run. It is unknown when Mr. Lincoln will return to Main Street, U.S.A.

This is a great show, it made me tear up but I am a big baby with all the nostalgic things about Disneyland.
I grew up close(Ventura) and went quite a few times as a kid.

This one is a must see.......if it is still there. I don't know why they wouldn't find a spot for it if Lincoln did come back.

We haven't seen the show but we did go in and look around at all the pictures, drawings and models of the rides. It was so cool!! I highly recommend it, seeing the show is one of my must do's next time we go. :)

I really like this movie & also recommend it.

Also, you might want to take your mom to the Disneyland Hotel. In the building where Goofy's Kitchen is - as you face the cashier, go to your right, and you will pass a wall on your left full of Disneyland memorabilia. I thought it was pretty cool to see.

In the waiting area for the First 50 Years show, there are displays of old ticket books, when they were lettered, model buildings, old pictures etc. to look at.

Disneyland Hotel has many old pictures and a huge mural wall of old Disney related items (it's gigantic).

Also inside the waiting room for the 1st 50 years is a miniature DL park, old photos, and the like.

As a treat - get her on the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour, where she can also listen to Walt describe the things she is viewing. I think it takes 1-2 hours.

Gives her a slight break from the family and is a way cool treat!

How cool is this - and how did I overlook making it a priority to go?? Thanks to everyone for posting this info.

It's really hard to make yourself go, and harder to drag family in! But it's really very worth it. I finally went in on my solo trip, and was so sad I had missed it before! In May I nearly had to force my son and husband in, but it's so sweet and funny and full of information that they were actually glad I had brought them.

I just wanted to give a big fat thanks to those who posted!! I would have never have known about this film and it sounds like exactly what I want!!! And also a great tip about Disneyland Hotel. I have yet to ever go in there and I know from seeing pictures on here that there is a lot to see, so great tip! Thank you all! :flower3:

This is a great show with Donald Duck and Steve Martin...who knew he worked in the magic shop...and dont forget to show her the huge scale modle of the original Disneyland in middle of lobby. (Although I love this show I do whish I could have taken Ds to see the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln show)

Ive got some pics that I will get posted soon I hope...lol

have no fear...it shall be back!!

I probably visited a dozen times between 1962 & 1969....& then hadn't been again to DL until a year & a half ago.

For me....Fantasyland really did it. Matterhorn, Toadie, PP, Snow White, Alice, Storybookland etc. They're exactly as i had remembered them & they're all fantastic......memories flooded back.

(Same thing to a lesser extent for Tiki Room, the JC & Pirates.)

Get there at rope drop so you all can enjoy these magical 40-50 y/o areas (attractions) with fewer crowds. (oh...& btw....DL is much better now. :thumbsup2 )

Aww... I wanna watch the DL Movie and tear like a big baby man :(.

I always wanted to watch it and learn/appreciate the history of DL, but we're always so busy to do so many things when we go. Mebbe next time I can squeeze it in :)
