Nose Rings for Teens?

That is so terribly sad. When my children are grown and self-supporting, they can come visit me dressed as bozo the clown and I'll be so happy to see them. Perhaps it's my permanent mom-blinders that allow me never to find my children "very unattractive."

OH, it isn't sad. I guess it is just my family, none of us like them and we have the same feelings about nose rings. So don't feel to sorry for me. My kids think they are ugly, so I don't think I have to worry about it too much.

Not only that but where I live I don't know any adults with a nose ring. It is just how it is in my neck of the woods. I like it that way. I just asked my son about what he thought about nose rings. He said no way. So I don't have to worry about them too much. Oh and by the way, I also refuse to be a day care for my grandkids. Guess that makes me terrible too.

My employer (hospital) has a very strict policy.... no visible tattoo's. (I work with a girl with one on her neck. She has to wear her hair down to cover it or try to use band aids. It's a line of stars so it's hard to cover.)

No facial piercings. They must be removed or covered. And only 2 earrings allowed per ear. They must be conservative.

You get one warning and then they start the disciplinary procedure up to and including termination. This covers the CEO and on down the ladder.

:)

My (now 19) then 16 y/o asked for one....so I signed for him. I don't see it as a big deal. As stated in other posts - I have bigger fish to fry. If I have a good kid, piercings are the least of my concerns.

Oh - and he now has his eyebrow pierced, too.

I have no problems with tattoos or piercings, but there are consequences. I am an IT Director and have worked for a number of Fortune 100 companies. None of those companies allow this sort of thing. So, I will counsel my boys if they ever ask, but will allow them to make their own decisions - aware of the possible consequences.

I'm in IT, have worked for several companies, and have always had the opposite experience.

I love that! I want one. (I'm having a mid-life crisis. ;) )

See, that's the one that creeps me out the most!

DD16 has had a good experience so far - she is keeping it clean and not complaining that it hurts. Of course, every time she turns her head and it flashes I have to stop myself from telling her she has a piece of glitter stuck to her nose...:rotfl:

So, let me ask - since you have people saying that some companies care, but the companies that you have worked for did not care, what conclusions have you drawn? :confused3

No rings(piercings) other that the ear lobe. I would not hire anyone with rings-piercings in other visible places.

Why not? Why wear make up, dye your hair, or wear jeans?

I would feel different if it were permanent, like a tattoo. But why not get the piercing, you can just take it out when you're ready for the professional job.
Absolutely agree. I'm a child of the 60's, so self-expression sure isn't anything new to me.
I guess my issue is how society percieves piercings. The general population isn't particularly in love with the practice of body piercings. The general population does wear jeans, wear makeup and most definately dyes their hair...especially those children of the 60's!!!
I'm just not sure I would allow my underage child to do something that is percieved badly by the general population. But, that make me a big old weenie!!
