Norwegian Dawn damaged by wave

I just saw this on CNN. Any clue on how the Wonder has made out during this storm? We have friends sailing today.

I see the Wonder in Portl on the webcam. Looks like she is fine and loading passengers as we speak.

My goodness - that one was 1000 foot - Disney is 964.

EEKK...

just got a tad skitterish!

was there a storm front going through?

My husband & I were supposed to be on The Dawn from the 10th - 17th. Had to cancel in Jan. in Feb booked The Magic from the 9th - 16th had rough waters on Fri but nothing compared to the Dawn. Again Disneys Magic saved us LOL.

I'm not sure where exactly the Norwegian Dawn was when it was hit, but we were on the Wonder heading towards port on Friday night and it was pretty scary. I heard alot of people saying during disembarkation say that they didn't sleep a wink. It was pretty freaky....I kept thinking that someone was going to come on the PA from the bridge and say something because it seemed pretty extreme to me, but I guess it's old hat to them! That being said, we had an AWESOME time with perfect weather (except for Friday night) and will file a trip report after we catch our breath!

Duh.....I just realized I said we were on the Wonder. It was the Magic. I had just been reading a post about the Wonder, and well....you know!

I was supposed to be going on the Norweign Dawn today, we have many friends that left this morning to go to New York.
We opted out in Oct, and went on the Disney Magic on Feb 26th. I am glad I made that decision.
Our friends are getting on the boat tomorrow at 3 pm hopefully.
They are spending the night at a hotel in the New York/ New Jersey area.
I am glad they were not on it when it happened, all are traveling with many children and it would of been very scary.
They are giving them a $200.00 max credit per stateroom, and some money off for missing the first day on the boat.

Glad no one was seriously hurt.

According to someone that was posting live from the Dawn on Cruise Critic, they said they are getting 50% off this cruise and 50% off a next cruise plus a $100.00 per person shipboard credit and open bar.
It's amazing that more people weren't hurt!

:scared1:

Definitely not for the weak of heart and would be my worst nightmare! Just saw cruisers on news being interviewed, who thought the end had come. I cannot imagine how scary it all must have been out in the middle of the ocean hit by mother nature's freak 47' waves up to the 10th floor, jacuzzis on 12th floor turned over, crashing windows in, 60+ cabins flooded. We have been on cruises where waves were only 15-20ft and the ship was rocking and rolling. Praise God a lot more passengers/crew weren't injured.

We were on the Wonder on Sat. night during the rough seas. It was pretty bad! When we were at breakfast the morning after, not many had slept! We were all a little queasy!

I hope this will serve as a perfect example of why the practice emergency drills are so important to attend. You just never know when some sort of freak accident will occur. (Those of you who remember the thread about children's naps vs. attending the drills will know what I'm talking about.)

As others have said, it's a miracle that more people were not injured.

:wave2:

Wow....saw this on the news (right after I got finished watching Titanic, again)....I watch Titantic every year on the anniversary of the sinking...sort of my own little remembrance of the disaster and all those lives lost (April 15th, 1912)....have always been fascinated by the sinking of that ship....and all that could have been done to prevent it...and the arrogance of us thinking that it could never sink....before the blockbuster Titantic came out I used to watch "A night to Remember" about the disaster...I was actually surprised that none of the news even mentioned the anniversary of the Titanic disaster this weekend, especially with the Dawn incident...

But anyway...some of the scenes of water sloshing through the hallways was very similar to the movie.....makes you really realize the power of mother nature and never to be complacent when you travel...anything can happen at any time....

You know what gets me really mad?? That idiot that wants to sue NCL for ruining his honeynoon. He actually said it ruined a "lifetime of memories" for him!!! How was it NCL's fault?? I think they did a great job. They immediately offered refunds, discounts, drinks and so on. They also posted info directly on their home web page for both the cruise thet was out and the next cruise due out. Other passangers reported the crew did a great job directing passangers. But of course the media choses to report from the idiots who want $$$.

This was much further north... the Dawn was sailing from NY to Miami, and ended up in Charleston... it wasn't a storm, but just a rogue wave due to the storm farther out to sea and the converging fronts in the Atlantic- it also caused high surf and beach erosion (as if we need more) on the East Coast of FL.

I couldn't agree more. He would probably blame the weatherman for rain on his wedding day, too. :umbrella:

:sad2: There's one in every crowd......

What amazed me was that the ship was going to keep its schedule and sail right back out again! :sad2:
