Norway shopping

This is a very specific question, but I'm curious and even though I'm not going again until next May, I live and breathe Disney 24/7.

Has anyone ever bought any of the clothes in the Norway shop at Epcot? I think it's called Puffin's Roost, the one with the giant troll statue inside? I really loved all the clothes/shoes imported from Scandinavia. It's mostly cold weather stuff (which is convenient for where I live), but they were so cute and stylish! I never got around to buying anything due to the prices. I also don't recall there being a fitting room anywhere in the shop.

Anyway, have you ever bought any of those Norwegian clothes/shoes? Are you happy with your purchase and have they held up well?

My DD and I bought my DH a Norwiegen sweater there last Nov. for his bday. My husband is mostly Norwiegen and had always wanted a sweater. We live in MN and it is perfect for our winter weather. I have yet to wash it because he wears a shirt underneath so I've been putting it off. He absolutely loves it though. The dressing rooms are in the back left hand corner in the very last store so you can try things on. One thing you may want to look for is where it is actually made. We figured being in Norway that everything would be authentic, but the sweaters and a few other lower price items are actually "made in China." If you just want the sweater because you like the style it's probably no big deal, but if you are looking for authenticity like we were it was kind of disapointing to see.

A lot of the outerwear items in that store are Helly Hansen items, which are also available in their other retail locations (we have one in our town). I'm not sure if those sweaters are HH or not (I think not); we mostly go there looking for coats and fleeces.

Ooh, I will have to check the tags then! I figured they were pricier because they were authentic! And thank you so much for the fitting room tip! I didn't get as much time to explore the shop as I would have liked because I was being dragged all over the place. :lmao:

That's what I remember seeing! I'm checking out the Helly Hensen site now. I really love the ski jackets. They're pricy, but I may just splurge next time I'm at WDW! :goodvibes

If it helps, I did get DH a fleece zip up jacket at Helly Hensen (it was expensive - I'm thinking somewhere between $80-120 - I normally buy fleece jackets at Lands' End!!), but he really loves it and it looks good after two winters -- not all pilly like some fleece gets.

I can't answer about the clothing, but the Laila perfume/cologne is wonderful!! :)

I have 2 Helly Hansen jackets that I bought there on 2 trips. One is a winter jacket and the other is a litght weight jacket I use when it rains. I LOVE them.

I also wear the Laila perfume evey day so I guess I am a big Norway shopper!

Hi, just want to comment on the "made in china" issue. I'm from scandinavia and a lot of the clothes, Helly Hansen and the big sweaters are sold every where here (I'm from Denmark) The fact that it says "made in china" doesn't mean that it's fake, or not authentic. Most big designers in Europe get their clothes made in asia. The Helly Hansen clothes here are made in china as well, it's just the brand that's Scandinavian. You can't find anything here that isn't made somewhere in Asia.
Another thing: Remember that all the stuff is overpriced. I was a bit shocked when I saw the price at WDW compared to what we pay here.

The perfume in Norway is lovely, my mom got one last year when we went to WDW because you can't get it here... We spoke to a CM and she said she never heard of it before coming to WDW.

I never said it was fake, but apparently your definition of authentic and mine are two different things. To me there is a huge difference from something that is actually made in Norway rather than just a company that is based in Norway and sells clothing. My husband wanted an authentic Norwiegen sweater that people from that country actually made because that is his heritage and the chances of us visiting that country any time soon in the future are very slim.

We met Geir Ness - creater of Laila when we were there in June. He was very nice and quite the salesman! We ended up purchasing the set he had on "special", got home and it was $10 cheaper online through his website. :rotfl2:

Easy now... I'm just trying to explain that getting something that's made in Norway is quite hard cause we get everything made out site scandinavia. We don't make stuff (clothes) our self cause it would be waayyyyy to expensive. Even the fancy designers can't afford it...
I understand why you want to get something made here, but I just wanted to explain the way we do stuff here.
Sorry if you got it the wrong way.

My husband was very intriqued by the clothing in Norway. If it wasn't so expensive he would have gladly purchased something there, and just may save his pennies for next time!

Much of the outdoor clothing in the Norway Pavillion is made by Helly/Hansen. H/H is a Norwegian mountaineering company that has branched out into high-fashion outdoor wear in addition to all their technical clothing, ski gear, and the like. I live in Denver, and we have several H/H stores around us in Aspen and outside of Boulder in the mall. If you like their stuff, you can order it directly through H/H's website.

I can tell you that their clothing is expensive no matter where you buy it, so prices at Epcot are very typical. You should also watch for sales at the Epcot store. I bought several pieces of H/H luggage and a jacket that I absolutely LOVE when they were on 50% off prices. So, watch for those.

I just wanted to agree with the princess - here in Europe, hardly anything is made in Europe! In fact, my DD7 thinks everything has "Made in China" stamped on it somewhere! I know what you're saying about authenticity, but if you wanted Norweigan clothes that were made in Norway, the prices wouldn't be expensive, they'd be extortionate! I love the Norweigan sweaters they sell in Epcot but have never bought any there - I usually just get mine when I'm in Norway BUT they are exactly the same, so if you like them and don't mind paying the $$ - I say go ahead and enjoy the warm snuggly-ness of that sweater! :goodvibes I'm Scottish but have relatives in Norway so visit every few years. ;)

I would also like to add that the Helly/Hansen clothing we have seen in Epcot is usually a bit cheaper than we can buy here in stores in Scotland. :rolleyes1

My husband's rain gear for work is Helly Hanson, yes it's expensive but it really holds up well. He climbs trees in his and it still looks decent. Not cheap but very well made.
I love the perfume in Norway too, and "Malstrom" was my daughters first ride, so a little sentimental.

Thanks for all the great advice, everyone! I can't wait to check out the Norway shop again. And, well, all of them. Epcot is tops. :goodvibes

If you are interested in the H/H stuff I just wanted to mention that I sometimes find their stuff at TJ Maxx. Not as fun as buying in Norway at EPCOT but I got a H/H ski jacket at TJ Maxx for half of what it would cost in EPCOT. I love it, it's perfect for frigid Great Lakes winters!!

That is my favorite perfume of all time! I bought it for the first time @ EP and every time I wear it I think of Disney :)
