Norway College Program kids alerted to pavilion closing?

I'm sorry, but this is very short-sighted. What are all the other Disney movies that were 'the most successful movie in the history of Disney'...until they were toppled by something else?

Here you Go.....

As of the end of 2013, Frozen was #101

Some of the highest grossing box office films as adjusted for inflation have never had a ride associated with them. Some have not even had a temporary attraction or Meet and Greet.

This list is taken from a list of 200 of the highest grossing box office films as adjusted for inflation. I didn't list past 100 except the "Frozen" notation. I don't think I can post the link. But a google search worked. It is an interesting list. A whole bunch of films featured at US/IOA are also in there. I do like movie tie-ins to theme park attractions...

BUT NOT IN WORLD SHOWCASE.

Starved for a female driven movie?? How about:

SNOW WHITE
CINDERELLA
SLEEPING BEAUTY
ALICE IN WONDERLAND
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
THE LITTLE MERMAID
LILO & STITCH
TANGLED
BRAVE
FROZEN
PRINCESS AND THE FROG
MULAN
POCAHONTAS

Just to start. All of which were far better films than Frozen, IMO.

I think everyone would be very excited for a NEW Frozen ride. Either in MK or even DHS, which desperately needs some new rides, especially rides that are family-friendly. I think the problem is ruining something that is already classic and interesting to stick Frozen on top of it.

This option is just so cheap.

I also don't like the Mexico ride overlay actually, I think they ruined that ride by doing that. It makes my kids like it more, but that doesn't mean it was a good thing ;)

Totally agree. I watched it with my husband one night (he fell asleep) and when it was finally over I was like Did I miss something? I get that the song is catchy and well written, but a song that alludes to divorce does not make a great classic Disney movie. So glad that other people agree that this is not the greatest movie of all time. I was even thinking about sitting through it again to see if I was really missing something but I think I'll just " Let It Go".:confused3

Where in Frozen is there any allusion to divorce??!?!

As for the Norway invasion, one of the biggest knocks against New Fantasyland was that it had taken 20 years for Disney to really incorporate some of its most beloved movies into the park (Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid), so now that Disney appears to be moving quickly to add Frozen details people are complaining about that.

Disney can never make everyone happy. So I'm sure the company will want to make the millions of people who have bought tickets to see Frozen, bought the DVD and bought another billion dollars worth of merchandise happy by making these additions to the park.

This is such a colossal mistake. The entire idea of World Showcase goes down the tube when they can just sell out any country it wants when something gets popular. I'm afraid of the doors this will open. No country will be safe and it will only be a matter of time before the heart of World showcase is gutted and we just have movie rides and merch everywhere.

I just do not understand why they couldn't plan to create a big presence for Frozen in HS. It's clearly doing very well there and there is lots of space where they could include a show. I just don't get it. :confused3

I think it certainly does mean something. If it is the most successful movie in the history of Disney, that says a lot about its popularity amongst the masses. Both here and abroad. And any Frozen sequel will be widely released and will probably break all sorts of box office records on its own. I think you vastly underestimate this movie's popularity if you think in a few months everything Frozen is going to be yesterday's news.

See, I don't agree. Frozen is certainly popular right now and will remain so for at least a little while, but I don't think a sequel is going to break box office records unless it's released within the next 12 months. Look at whom the movie is most popular with: toddler-tween girls. Little girls grow up, all the while finding something new to obsess over. Frozen reminds me the Cabbage Patch Kids and Furby crazes. Demand was high, supply was low, and mass hysteria ensued while trying to get one. Once these little girls get their photo taken with A&E, an Elsa dress, an Anna doll.. it'll be on to something else.

It's not going to be the empire that Toy Story was. It was a story that was easily continued, evolved and crossed generation and gender gaps.

If the rumors pan out and the entire pavilion is closed as of October, I wonder if they will temporarily move the princess breakfast to another venue to appease guests? Le Cellier maybe? It's a sort of castle-like setting I suppose, and with controlled seating from a podium, just like Akershus. Unless they want to move it to China and have it hosted by Mulan rather than Belle. Or they could move it to France, where Belle resides in the movie to make it more authentic. Chefs is a fairly large dining room.

Let's just hope it's a vicious rumor... https://www.facebook.com/TheEpcotExplorersEncyclopedia?fref=nf

If it's for a refurb, fine. If it's for FROZEN, then it's a disgrace and an outrage.

I do not have a problem with Disney incorporating a Frozen theme in the Norway pavilion. It's cute to have elements from Disney movies in the different countries. It's no different than bringing Remy to Chef's de France...or Donald Duck on the Mexico ride. Heck they can take it a step further and add Mulan stuff to the China pavilion...etc.

Frozen has exceeded a billion dollars in box office revenue and that is not even counting merchandise. It is now the most financially successful animated film in the history of the movies, passing Toy Story 3 and moving into the top 10 of all movies, all time.
Not quite: http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm

Snow White is still #10, Frozen is #101.

Regardless, it's a moot point, as box office revenue has never been an indicator of which movies get related attractions.

EDIT: Ack, someone beat me to it. Apologies for redundancy.

I loved World Showcase when I went. It was a chance to get a sneak peek at different cultures and sample different food from around the world.

To me it was a break from the hustle and bustle of MK and a little more "grown up".

Yes there were a few characters scattered here and there but it was done in a way that they were not in your face. I was very impressed with the whole world showcase theme and my kids enjoyed "seeing the countries".

If this rumor is true then it is a very bad idea. Disney needs to keep to the spirit of what world showcase is supposed to be: a place to get a peek at different cultures around the world.

I have no problem with Anna and Elsa having a meet and greet or a breakfast there but please do not ruin World Showcase by making it Frozen land! There are many other places to do this.

I love this idea and I love that it's happening at Epcot, which desperately needs a new attraction. Frozen isn't going anywhere. I remember being obsessed with Ariel when I was a child and 20 years later I'm still purchasing her products. The Disney store was selling Maelstrom t-shirts last week and they didn't sell out. Meanwhile anything "Frozen" will fly off of the shelves in minutes. Disney knows what they're doing this time.

But if you don't adjust for inflation, Frozen is the top-grossing animated film of all time and the fifth-highest overall: http://variety.com/2014/film/news/frozen-becomes-the-highest-grossing-animated-film-ever-1201150128/

People aren't annoyed that Disney is adding Frozen to their parks (generally speaking). It's a matter of where they are placing it, not what they are placing. Why have a World Showcase at all if it's just going to become Fantasyland II?

Here's my thoughts:

  • I do think tha tthe Maelstrom could use a refurb.
  • I do not necessarily even mind if they incorporate Frozen into it.
  • I do NOT want the entire Norway pavillion to be transformed.
  • Kringla better not go anywhere!
  • I do not see how they can take down the third most popular attratction at Epcot with NOTHING to replace it. The refurb better be quick!
  • I'd like to ride the Maelstrom one last time, but if they are shooting for September, then I doubt I can. :(

I see. MK isn't a good place to put a Frozen ride. It would hit capacity everyday if that happened. DHS isn't a bad spot, but I personally think WS is a great spot and as we all know, Epcot eats up crowds much better than DHS or MK ever could.

Really? Did you not see the disaster when the meet and greet was in epcot?

I'm fairly certain Disney isn't planning to just plop Anna and Elsa into a M&G in Norway with no queue and no FP+ again. Disney can be slow sometimes, but it does often learn from its mistakes.
