Has anyone been to the lunch buffet at Norway? We are a family of 5 and our budget will only allow one sit down meal in Epcot.

We ate here for the first time last May. We really did enjoy this meal. AND I was real skeptical at first since I do not like fish. But I found plenty to eat. Our waitress was wonderful and really went out of her way to help us. They had some pork dish that was just wonderful! They have a nut bread that is wonderful with some butter! :) For the picky eaters you can even make a roast beef sandwich! We will definitely go back.

For the adventurous eaters they have several types of herring and some strange cheese selections. My husband LOVED all of the cheese. No, the cheese wasn't strange - it's just stuff I'm not interested in trying. I only like stuff like cheddar, colby, pizza cheese, etc.

We went twice in April/May - we loved the lunch so much we went back for dinner!
Desserts are extra. The Rice Cream is to die for but you can also buy it at the bakery and it's cheaper.
I hope you enjoy your meal there as much as we did!

Although we always eat at Akershus, unless your family really loves unusual (that is to American palates) food or you're of Scandinavian descent, I would pick a different restaurant. I don't know your family, but if we could only do one Epcot sit-down, Teppanyaki would be the one that appeals to all 5 of us. (I personally would choose Marrakesh or San Angel, though.)

Akershaus is a beautiful restaurant and the servers are IMO the absolute best in WDW. It is true that you can make a deli sandwich (ham not roast beef when we were there), but I doubt that you want to pay that price for a roast beef sandwich! My dh loves this restaurant and we always go -- sometimes I find it "okay" and other times really love it because the menu varies a good bit. That pork dish chellnjr mentioned is one of my favorites there -- and they did NOT have it on our most recent visit.
They also have discontinued my favorite salad b/c it wasn't really Norwegian.

If you decide to go, have your kids to look at the buffet before ordering -- if they find very little they like, there is an unadvertised kids' menu. My oldest son ordered from it when he was about 16. When he was 17, he thought the pot roast looked good. This year, he went to the Electric Umbrella while we had lunch!

but I doubt that you want to pay that price for a roast beef sandwich!

Let me clarify, I was saying that in addition to the other foods you could have a sandwich and that there is at least one familiar item on the buffet.

I enjoy Akershus very much because I love all the different fishes but I agree with Tar Heel, if your family does not enjoy smoked salmon, pickled herring, etc there are many other WDW restuarants that have a much bigger selection of foods that will appeal to you. Akershus does have other foods besides the fishes and cheeses but that is the main attraction. BTW, they did not have the pork dish when I was last there over Memorial Day weekend.

I'm not really a fan of smoked salmon or herring but I still love Akershus. The cheeses, breads and salads are yummy. I always end up eating too much.

My wife, two college age daughters and I ate there less than a month ago. We had a great time. I'm a 'meat 'n potato' type of guy but I was able to find lots of good foods that I liked. The rest of the family liked it even more... they like fish much more than I. I would say that if you are on a budget... go for it... I think it is one of the least expensive meals we had (and we had a lot during our 10 day stay) and it was very good. But.. what really made this place great was our server... Monica was just great... lots of attention... talked to us about Norway... told us about the food... allowed us to take pictures w/ her in... and she took our picture... It was my wife's birthday and they gave the four of us what must have been an 8, 9, 10 inch cake... it was delicious... We (even I, the meat n potato guy) would certainly do it again... check the prices... I think you will find it is one of the better values..... and, lots of fun.... I would suggest you try to get your server talking.... go during a quiet time... epcot usually not too bad early in the day.... Akershus was not crowded at all... most staying away frow the herring I would guess.. but their loss was our gain... good luck, whatever you decide...
