Norwalk on DCL Alaska Trip

Disembarked the Wonder in Vancouver yesterday; entire family was seriously sick with Norwalk virus (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) requiring iV fluids; mother-in-law hospitalized and receiving surgical consult as I write; staff was supportive during cruise but offered little help to get off the ship while my daughter was incapacitated
 
Why would your MIL need a surgical consult after the stomach flu? BEst wishes for a quick recovery for all?:sick:

obviously you have never had Norwalk if the question is asked; my mother in law and my daughter were so incapacitated they had to have wheelchairs; when you have this you can not even carry your carry on luggage or stand in line; went to the guest services desk three times asking for assistance and they were so busy getting people off they do not have the resources to help you; it is literally every man for himself; the medical department was very professional and helpful but once again on transfer days they simply do not have the resources; my main objection is that the personnel at the Beach Blanket Buffett were NOT requiring patrons to sanitize their hands in order to eat there; I personally saw 2 people refuse to sanitize before they went through the line; additionally I saw one patron place the tongs for one food item directly on her hand and then replace it on the line; this definitely needs to be tightened up; if you pay 20-25K for the cruise (in toto) they should take better care of the global cleanliness

So sorry to hear that she became that ill, what a disappointment for all of you to have been sick on your trip. I hope she recovers quickly and doesnt need the surgery. Sending good wishes her way.

Nope ~ never had it and hope to never in the future. so I appreciate your patience in answering our questions as I have never seen anyone post anything about it before.

How did you know it was Norwalk and not just a sea sickness kind of thing? I know you mentioned that a person can't carry anything so I am guessing they are like bent over in pain? Since you have experience can you share what you did that you don't mention getting it?

I am sorry to hear your vacay ended in this manner (and worse you are probably not even in your hometown) and hope that your family gets better soon. I appreciate your sharing and insight.
