We have been members for a VERY long time and I have been trying to use our frequent flyer miles for a vacation for the past 6 years for airline tickets to WDW (also tried to use them for a trip to Las Vegas). I have started checking for availability as soon as you can book the flights but nothing was ever available (we were very flexible on our dates, times and did not plan on traveling during peak seasons). So I decided I would try to see about checking into transferring them so that we could possibly use them for a hotel stay (Hilton) for a future vacation and they are about the only airline that does not transfer freqeunt flyer miles so that they can be used for other vacation needs. When I called NW a service rep had me go to the web site saying that there was a place that you could use them there but the only thing that they had were more ways to earn more miles and not use them. Why would I want anymore if I can't use the ones that I have now. I called Hilton and NW is about the only airline that does not let you transfer your miles to their awards program. Sorry for the rant but this seems very unfair and has been a waste of my time!!!!!

That's strange about the problems you're having with Northwest. My brother has to fly to Japan on business 3 or 4 times a year, so he really racks up the frequent flyer miles. (I'm guessing that World Perks is the name of their frequent flyer program. If not, you'll probably want to ignore the rest of my message!) Last year, he, his wife, and 2 daughters flew out west on his frequent flyer miles and went to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, etc. They just got back from a 2 week trip to Hawaii and California (including Disneyland, the lucky dogs!) where they once again used his frequent flyer miles. I wonder if they're blocking out really desirable vacation destinations such as Orlando and Vegas. Then again, you would think that Hawaii would have a block on it. Have you tried checking the flights into Tampa? Maybe you could sneak one past them!

why do you think they are called Northworst??????

popular destinations book fast like hawaii, vegas, most fl cities and some west coast cities.

Dear C&Psmom,

I can empathize with your feelings. Trying to use Worldperks tickets can drive you crazy!!

Northwest is our corporate airline so I have accumulated a significant number of Worldperks miles over the last few years. Trying to use these miles to get tickets to go to WDW is always a headache. In past years, I have called 11 months in advance, and I still had difficulty getting seats. When I have actually gotten seats, we had to travel from mid-week to mid-week which is difficult for work and school schedules. This year I have not been able to get any seats so I guess I am going to have to purchase tickets.

I've never had any problems, I've redeemed 3 different times. Availability to MCO is usually difficult, but TPA is usually not too bad. And in my opinion, Tampa is a way better airport than MCO. I've even booked as late as 4 weeks before my trip. You do need flexibility with travel dates as Sunday return flights are rarely available.

One of the little known tricks is that sometimes it is easier to get a late reservation with frequent flyer miles. I have booked trips to Europe and had a HORRIBLE time getting what I wanted 7 or 8 months in advance. However, two weeks prior to the trip I could change to all kinds of flights! I think that sometimes Delta releases more seats to frequent flyers if things are not selling well. However, that method is hard to use for a family vacation!:(
