Alright, so we purchased the plane tickets for our 10/23/05 cruise from www.spiritair.com on 2/25/2005. Fare was as follows:

10-22-2005 - Leave DTW 740am - Arrive MCO 1020am
10-27-2005 - Leave MCO 630pm - Arrive DTW 910pm

Total price per person including taxes: $206.90. (all prices in USD)

HOWEVER, today I get an email stating that our return segment which was scheduled to depart MCO for DTW *originally* leaving at 11:45am has now been switched to 6:30pm.

So, DW tells me that she's rather not spend the day in Orlando and would prefer me to check around other airlines. I remember looking at booking with Northwest in February was at least $360 a ticket when I checked. With the recent publications of fare hikes and stuff I figured it was a lost cause and that we were going to be stuck sitting around in Orlando unless we wanted to pay huge amounts to switch. I knew we would get a full refund with Spirit so we'd have just over $400 to put towards whatever we got but was still unsure.

I just booked the following on Northwest:

10-22-2005 - Leave DTW 855am - Arrive MCO 1133am
10-27-2005 - Leave MCO 130pm - Arrive DTW 411pm

Price per person in *FIRST CLASS FOR BOTH SEGMENTS* is $330.90.

So, for an extra $124 a ticket, we're getting the flights we want, we're getting the airmiles credit, and we're getting first class.

A hell of a deal if you ask me.

How long is this deal on until and for what flying dates? We are heading south in January again and I am waiting for those dates to open up.

January of 2006 shoudl be open now with Northwest.. I dont know what the details are - jump on their website and check it out.

StuartMI - could you please tell me which code is first class! I have been getting a price of $270 for L class seating - I am assuming that this is coach. Then there are flights with Q class. Not sure what they mean.

We have never flown NWA but have flown KLM many times, I am sure the service is similar.

It will only be DH and I (we are leaving the 4 darling children at home!) so travelling will be a breeze this time!

F is first class.

Departure code was FRV6KN, return code was FRW6KN.

Good luck! :cool1:

The prices are because you are getting the discounted K fares with northwest and I have to say they don't have many of them so jump on them when you see them the fare is designated at the end 2 letters being KN. We used to fly Northwest all the time and this was how they designated the reduced rate fares.

Good for you!

Ours would be over $1000 per person in first class. For that
I can fly AC.

Hey Stuart:

I just checked my dates (Oct 8-23) with Spirit and I get $332.50 for Business Class from Detriot....which is cheaper than coach!- But Detroit is just a little to far for me to go the get a plane.

Still a good price!

Just wondering if you are planning to use park and fly at one of the Detroit airport hotels? We are also flying out of Detroit in August (21-30) but don't know where to stay for the night? When I've checked out some hotels their park and fly policies are not as good as the ones in Buffalo, so I am getting nervous about where we are going to stay and park our van. :bounce:

Nope.. We live about 20 minutes from the airport so we usually just have a friend drop us off. If you're looking for a park and fly I would highly recommend "Airlines Parking". It's not a hotel, it's just a gigantic parking lot with lots of shuttles that are constantly running moving people back and forth. Check them out.
