Northwest cancelled our April 2010 spring break non-stop flight, leave Boston at 7:15am arrive in Tampa at 10:30am and stuck us on a leave Boston at 6:00am stop over in Memphis and arrive in Tampa at 12:00pm flight.
Am I entitled to, should I ask for compensation, a better Delta/Northwest flight?
Thanks,
Joe

I hear ya! I booked non-stop flights from Bloomington, IL to Orlando for December about 2 weeks ago, and they also dropped the non-stop flights just a few days after I bought my ticket! You can ask them to put you on different flights at no extra cost or request a refund.

ETA - my flights are on AirTran.

You're not entitled to anything more than your ticket terms say you're entitled to. Chances are, between now and your trip, the schedules will change sginificantly. Wait until a new flight you prefer is scheduled (for the same day) and ask NICELY if they can accommodate your request. Likely they will at no cost.

I would quietly expect them to switch me to any of their flights of my choice that are not sold out even if I have the lowest price discount ticket or lowest miles frequent flyer award. It may be desirable to ask for a supervisor over the phone.

Delta/Northwest sent a press release about 2 weeks ago annoucing the cancellation of flights which do not produce enough revenue. It was my understanding, however, that most were their European flights.

Don't forget Delta also now means Northwest Airlines.

If they continue to struggle with low capacity, expect more cuts in the future. This has been a very difficult time for the airline industry.

Didn't you read list week British Airways asked their employees to work 1 month for free....or take the time off without pay. OUCH!

I asked them to put us on the Delta 7:15-10:30 non-stop.
No problem.
10 months to go, let's hope for no more surprises.
Good Luck all,
Joe

They did it to us, today.

Our September non-stop from BDL to MCO, and BACK..both non-stops...both killed. Less than 90 days from departure.

They tried putting us on flights not even CLOSE to the same arrival times...hours later into Orlando, hours later back to BDL.

Awful. And their CS was terrible, and generally unhelpful. And, of course, flight fares have radically increased since we booked (we booked at $169 per person....can't sniff non-stop for less then $260-ish, if you can find flights not sold out). They weren't able to find us much, because...of course...many of the flights are booked. We're left flying into Detroit for a less than 1 hour layover (which is dicey) and then flying on to Orlando. Not a great prospect with 3 small kids in tow....and a gate checked stroller.

The return flight, right now, IS a non-stop...but CS is pretty sure it won't fly and we'll have to rearrange again. GRRRRRR.....

We went from all booked, ready to go, to having to deal with the Delta headache. Unreal....

Joe,

You may already know, but since the flights were switched from NW to Delta, we can now select our seat assignments on the Delta web site instead of waiting for the NW 90 day window.
