Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

OK, got the travel insurance taken care of. Apparently you can purchase it right up to the day before you leave, but it only covers any pre-existing medical conditions if you purchase it before the final payment. Luckily, that is not an issue for us because we have no pre-existing conditions and take no medications.
Regarding the volcano....THIS eruption will not be covered because it took place before we purchased our policy. If for some reason, the flights don't resume before our trip, we would lose everything. If everything gets back to normal and a NEW eruption causes another set of cancellations, then we WILL be covered. That seemed fair, so I purchased it. One less thing to worry about......
Thanks for clearing that up. Now I will definitely buy the insurance (once I get around to booking flights).

Just went to Travel Guard site and one can still purchase. I have not looked at our policy to see what is covered. We went with Travel Guard as we are on DVC points. I do recall that with a DVC point usage one must get the insurance right after booking.

We always use Travel Guard. So far, we haven't had to use the coverage, but we have it. This time it would only cover the flightsw and stuff, since we got the cruise thru DVC points.

Lynn reminded me we actually have two Travel Guard policies, one to cover the trip adn the other to cover the DVC points.

Went to Target yesterday and bought an over the door shoe organizer to use in our cabin. Brought it home and tried it out on the bedroom door. Guess what? Works so great that I'm gonna have to go back to Target and buy one for the cruise cause the husband thinks its a great idea:rotfl2:

Thanks for the tip. Anymore out there?

Hi all ... so I have bought all my foreign currency ... pounds, rubles, kroner (Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian), and Euros. I still need to get US dollars! All this different currency .. it is all quite pretty!

Wow! Did you have to order it and wait for it to come in? Did you go through your own bank? Can I ask how much you got of each? We have some Euros left from a trip years ago but am thinking we will use that up while we are in Paris before the cruise.

We have a currency store in our mall that carried it all. I got

600 Norwegian Kroner - $110 Cdn
550 Danish Kroner - $108 Cdn
700 Swedish Kronor - $105 Cdn
300 Euros - $420 Cdn (for Finland and Germany)
7680 Rubles - $335 Cdn

I also got pounds to cover the B&B and the driver and spending money.

I figure whatever is left over, I can exchange back to $US dollars either at the port, or on board (or back home if needed).

I prefer not to use my Credit Card overseas. Hate paying the fees.

AAA office here can also get the currency, there is fee, I have a couple of trips out of den and will get some at the exchange there or dca

If you're willing to give up some of the closet space, I had used a hanging shelf organizer. Gives you about 6 extra shelves (also available at target). I threw loose stuff and bathing suits, bras and socks in it.

I like the suction cup idea. I need to get one of those. I checked out those packing cubes available at the Container Store yesterday. Not sure that I would be disciplined to learn to fold my clothes in a new way.

I just need to learn to get by with less shoes on the cruise!

Laundry: I bought those sheets that have detergent, fabric softener and dryer sheet all in one (Awesome!) DO NOT bring quarters. You can only use your KTTW card for the laundry. Think it was $2 wash or dry. I did take advantage of the press only feature from DCL. It was $2.25 to press a pair of pants. I'll definitely do that again on this trip.

Cannot believe the volcano effects. The pictures were amazing, though! Not going to worry about that for 4 weeks or so. That should settle out.

OMG! You are going to Mexico for 2 weeks and THEN a 3 week vacation in Europe!!!???!!! Are you spending all your children's inheritance now?

I think she is Connie. I am doing the same thing. ;)

We brought Sid home yesterday afternoon!!!!

Congrats on the cute new puppy. Have fun. This note is late because we just got back from spring skiing in Utah and I didn't go on line while I was there.

I put an over the door shoe hanger in our front hallway closet door this past winter. I use it for mittens, gloves, scarves, etc. The lower slots are reserved for DD mittens and gloves and she does use it (most of the time)!

Finally have some time again to devote to the DIS!

We'll be on the cruise and can't believe we're finally under 60 days. I'm sailing with my mother (Debbi) and father (Barry), and this will be our eighth cruise (though I really wish it counted as more than one cruise for the Castaway Club!)

Keeping our fingers crossed that the volcano gives us a break by June :scared:

Good Afternoon Cruisers!

I have finally caught up from being missing for 2 weeks!

Emily - the puppy is adorable!

We are also watching the volcano - hoping that it will clear up in 4 weeks!

Have a great week all!

We take wire hangers (shirt and pant) so we can hang all shirts, pants, shorts, etc. and then we leave the hangers at the end of the cruise

I use the cubes all through the cruise to keep socks, undergarments, belts, etc, etc, etc, in. That way all this little stuff can be stored under the bed in bags or piled on top of each other in the DCL foot locker

I just need to learn to get by with less shoes on the cruise!

Laura was to fly out to Paris yesterday to deliver a week long training but her flight was canceled due to the volcano. She has spent the last two days tracking down her team, that is spread all over Europe, to try and get them home and to reschedule her class.

Thanks Patti!!!! We've been enjoying every second with him. Hope you had a good time in Utah, I wouldn't have gotten online either.

Marianne if your bank is like mine they have a $250 minium, however if you can get over to SFO (SF International airport) they do have currency exchange there. I am not sure about Oakland but you could call them and check. Can't wait to leave! Sue:yay:

I use one here at home in the computer room to hold all the electrical items and chargers.

Yeah, since we leave out of SFO I was thinking about just waiting until we leave but was worried that with my luck that would be the one day they are closed or out of money:rotfl:
