Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

We just got off the Magic on Saturday. While we were on, I booked this cruise!!!!

It's just me and DS17 and DS14. DH has to work to pay for our fun. The boys are doing a backingpacking trip for scouts later in the summer. So this is my bonding time with my two boys. Expect it to be the trip of a lifetime. DH is very bummed he's not coming.

I am pressed to catch up with all your posts. I wanted to see if we can join any tours.

I did want to share: When I booked my cruise, the DCL rep on the boat advised me not to get a flight until after 2:00 after we disembark. She indicated they were concerned about the tides and to give myself extra time just in case.

I asked her what the downside of this cruise may be, given it is the first Baltic cruise. She spinned it around to say that it is just the opposite...when they arrived on the first round of in Europe, the countries were so happy to see DCL, they met them with festivities, lavender sachets and a huge cheese spread in France. She also mentioned people in costume to greet the boat. Hopefully, we'll feel some of that extra-welcome!

The downside is that by the time I booked the cruise and had access to a computer, it was after day 75. Lots of stuff booked already. Also, they had a problem with the satellite most of our cruise last week. Internet was soooo slow....took you back to the old days when we had dial-up.

HAPPY EASTER from Virginia fellow cruisers! It was 85 degrees today. I was watching the SF Giants game and saw the rain. Hopefully it gets better before my trip west on Thursday.
I hope the comment about the 2:00 pm return filght is just being over cautious. We booked based upon the original recommendation and our Delta flight leaves at 1:30!

Welcome aboard Jendisney9 and your 2 boys from 3 of the 4boons, Bill, Laura and DD 16 Katie.

The TA on the ship is correct. On the 2005 1st Panama Canal crossing at each port there was a crowd to greet us and a crowd that watched us leave.

With all of the planning that I have been doing for both cruises I seem to have overlooked the fish extenders. Have the fish extender groups been formed yet? If so, who is the contact person ?

Thanks, Bill. You responded the first time I posted and knew that I was talking about Philmont. We're spending this week getting ready for DS17 Eagle court of honor planned for Sunday.

Guess I should have put names...Jennifer, Matthew, 17 and Andrew, 14.

The boys had a blast at the stack; this was the first time the youngest could go legally. Last time, he snuck in a lot. They are pretty psyched, as they made good friends on last weeks' cruise. This should be great for them. We let them stay for the activities until 2 am. all week, but we only hit 2 ports. We're all going to need more rest for this cruise. I think we parents should all bond together right now and set a curfew on pre-port nights! I sound like I'm getting old now!

Is anyone interested in doing a tour with Gallivant Productions in Stockholm? The tours are usually at 10am, but they have said they would do an early one at 8.30am if people are interested.

Essentially it seems to be a "Viking Tour" of "Ice Age to Ikea" through the old town. Gets great reviews and goes for 90mins.

If there are 10 or less (including children) the cost is SEK 1125 (approx $160 USD). For each extra person the cost is SEK1125 + SEK 125pp(approx $17).

Trip Advisor rate it really highly, and at least it is open that early?? So, any takers?

Jendisney9,

If you don't have plans for Stockholm you might want to look at this.
Because DCL had to shorten the time we have in Stockholm, 2bundles has been working with the tour company to do the "viking tour" at 8:30am. The 4boons are already booked with Gallivant Productions for the 10:30 tour but are willing to change to 8:30 if 2bundles can get it arranged. A tour at 8:30 would free up a larger block of time in Stockholm.

Interesting Easter Dinner today--45 seconds of earthquaking! No reported damage here in San Diego, but it did truely shake us up! Weather is nice, though. :rotfl2:

Happy Easter everyone!!!!

We had a happy Easter. We bought a new furry member of the family today!!!! We won't be able to pick him up until Friday, but he's a cutie. We got a two month old bulldog puppy. We're naming him Yensid and calling him Sid for short.;)

I can't wait to take pics to post for everyone!!!!

We are from the Central Coast as well...Monterey area.:rotfl:

Hi! Actually we are in Cambria, south of Hurst Castle. We think of ourselves as central coast & get that label, but geographically you guys are really central coast! It's a confusing california thing...lol :cool1:

Well either way it is still nice knowing that their is another family traveling from our neck of the woods. :hippie: Looking forward to meeting all of you.

Welcome to the newcomers!

Just booked this cruise and noticed that unless you take a Disney excursion you will not be let off the ship without a Russian Tourist Visa which cannot be purchased on the ship. One source told me the Visa is $600 per person? Can anyone tell me what our options are?

I finally gave up on hopes for cheaper airfare and booked our flights to London today. I can't believe what a relief I felt when I hit the "submit" button. Must have been stressing about this more than I thought. ...
I keep putting off booking our flights in a desperate hope that the fares will fall. They've gone down about $25 each in the last week or so, but I am starting to get mighty nervous. One more week and we'll be within the 60 day window. I doubt that I'll wait any longer than that.

You have three options:
  1. Use a Disney excursion and they will arrange the tourist visa for you.
  2. Book a tour using one of the private tour companies and they will arrange the visa for you. (This is the option that we plan on using.)
  3. Obtain a Russian tourist Visa. As I understand it, this option requires an 'invitation' to be obtained from a Russian tourism company and for you to be accompanied through passport control by a representative of this company. It is my understanding that the actual visa is not the expensive part. It is the invitation and accompaniment.

Welcome to the new cruisers!!!

Easter was fairly nice here - but because of a nasty cold, I did not go outside for more than a few minutes. I have taken today off of work, it is supposed to be nice today also - I may try to get out for a short dog walk to build my stamina back up. Tomorrow is rain and snow!

Have a great week all!

Looking for private car hire to take us from Gatwick Airport to Dover and then return after the cruise. Some had mentioned airportcars.com, but I would like to compare prices with others companies. Any others you have used before?
Thanks,
Heidi
