Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

Hi all, I have been to the happiest place on earth this weekend and picked up a viking hat!! I am all ready for the Viking party, if there is one. LOL.

I understand where you are coming from Mike ... That's what they told me ... I think the issue might be that if they wait too long, they won't be able to get out due to the tides, and then we won't make it back to Dover in time. I'm just guessing though ... I tried to find something about tide times on the web ... but to no avail!

The tide waits for no man! (I always wanted to use that line and this seems like the perfect opportunity).

OK, trivia question, what movie is this line from: "The tide waits for no man but I swear it'd wait for you."

Can they really predict tidal conditions this far out?:confused3

Yes, have a function on my GPS that does just that.

I should have called ya last week as I was in Huntsville for a day, but a very full day. Did my morning run around the Big Springs park. pretty darn nice.

Scott, if you had had time you definitely should have given me a call!!!

Big Spring Park is definitely nice, but a lot of construction going on around there right now. The Art Museum is being added on to and the Civic Center is being renovated. There is talk that the big music festival that is held there in the fall might be cancelled because of all the construction. It's an awesome event and I'd hate to see that happen.

I asked my contact at DCL about the port change and got this email back:

I can confirm that the first 12 night Baltic cruise must leave Stockholm earlier than originally planned (changed to 1300hrs), per direction of the Swedish port authority. This is a recent development which is likely why the website has not been updated. If you booked the tour through DCL, you will get a phone call soon from DCL to go discuss alternatives.

I can tell you that work is already underway to make the early departure a great experience for DCL guests. I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag, but I can tell you that I am personally excited about one of the options.

See you in a couple months!

So I wrote them back and told them now I was excited too...and didn't even know why. :-) I'm sure they will come up with something pretty cool.

~Mike

Yes that's sad about shortening the time in Stockholm. We wonder if Disney is shortening their safety factor length in regards to tides because of what happened last weekend. We were lucky that out morning excusion ends about 12:00pm and I guess because it's with Disney they are willing to take the chance.

We received our flight confirmation to Heathrow. So far so good! We have a nice layover time in D.C. We also checked that Pittsburgh's Airshow isn't till the fall this year! Virgil knows what I'm talking about. The airshow practice is what threw off our schedule in 2007 when we were flying to the Mediterranean Cruise. Another nice thing is that we are flying on the Boeing 777. This is my dear brother's favorite plane. I had to tell him we were flying on the Boeing 737. He hates the 737 because "They use this plane all the time!" He also like the size of the engines on the Boeing 777 "They're bigger than the engines on the Titanic!" I do realize that the Boeing 737 isn't a plane usually used for transatlantic flights but I still had to try to tell him anyways. It's a sister thing.

Interesting that they are having trouble filling the cheaper categories. Wonder why that is? Maybe people figure 11 days is too long to spend in a room w/o a window and so sprung for the extra money?

~Mike

If you have already booked then you can not get the kids free unless you cancel and rebook. With the cancel policy it's not worth it!

Got in very late Sunday, next day was all day at the Convention Center and then some, then I had a 3:00 AM wake-up to leave on Tuesday. Too fast of a trip, very nice place. DId not even get a chance to get to the Space Museum, Bummer.

This thread is really starting to pickup.

You're right that was a pretty full trip. 3 am is definitely not pleasant at all.

I think they are trying to sell what people at this point will buy. There may not be many, if any, rooms truly available in this categories but they are willing to to sell with a guarantee of a category and then bump some people up. I think sometimes this is why people get upgraded - I hope they offer the upgrade to people who have had rooms purchased for a long time first but I not sure if this is always the case.

Yeah, you're probably right. Can always move people up, but you can't very well move them down. We've been GTY Cat 4 and wait-listed for Cat 3 but since we booked in Oct 2008. Wow, hard to believe it's been that long ago! We booked 20 months out and now we have only 2 more months to wait/plan/dream.

~Mike

I know - it's so exciting! I keep going over in my head all the details trying to think if I've forgotten anything. We finally have the air details and my DH is even researching the planes we will be flying on. He so excited because we are going over on a Boeing 777 - never flown in one of those before.

It seems like the people who got calls had afternoon tours in Stockholm. Did anyone get a call that didn't have a tour affected by this?

I'm kind of surprised that our tour wasn't changed b/c it's going to be cutting it close to get back for the Magic to leave at 1. We're doing one of the Old Town tours (can't remember the full name), but it ends around 12:30.
We were booked on the 11:45 Skansen & Vasa tour and got a call that due to tidal conditions the tour would be leaving at 7:30 a.m. instead. We were also thinking about doing Vasa et al on our own but now I am not so sure because of the early departure time. Our original plan was to leave the ship at about 9:30 a.m and tour for 5 or 6 hours then go back to the ship. Now we may have to do the tour to get it all in and make it back to the ship on time.

I'm crossing my fingers for you too!:yay: I guess we are just going to stick with the palace and waterway tour for the morning in Stockholm. I don't think we will have time for anything else now.

I couldn't help myself and started putting some clothes in a big storage tub that I want to take:rotfl: Husband may start wondering where all his clothes are disappearing to:lmao: It makes me feel like I'm doing something towards the cruise besides just waiting!
