Northern Illinois?

Hubby was offered a job near Ohare airport and really is considering taking it. This means moving as an 1hr45 min drive is just not going to happen (we live in the burbs southwest of Milwaukee, WI now).

Anyone familiar with towns in the area? Particularly looking around maybe Palatine, Crystal Lake, Barrington, or even up to Grayslake/Gurnee.
EXCELLENT schools (I have a son in 2nd grade who still gets special ed help) and family friendly area are musts.

Park Ridge, Arlington Heights, and Rolling Meadows. Very family friendly and great schools.

We moved out of Gurnee 3 years ago because we were unimpressed with the schools. Teachers were poorly paid, classrooms were full, schools were not being built fast enough for the growth in the area.

Palatine and Arlington Heights have great schools but are pretty pricey compared to Gurnee and Crystal Lake. Crystal Lake would be a good hike to O'Hare in traffic (90 gets VERY backed up); you'd probably be just as well staying where you are at.

I know that Fremd is supposed to be a great school. Not sure exactly what communities that covers...I think Palatine.
