Northeast Vacation

OP, what are your family's interests? Do you guys like to camp/hike, are you beach people, history buffs?
There are so many choices in the NE area, its hard to narrow it down to something great without knowing what you guys like.

If it were me, I'd go to the Cape and stay up in the Truro area. Its right near the National Seashore, or you can go to the bay. Its close to P-town where you can find alot of places to eat and shop, or just walk around. I would recommend a whale watch. The last one we went on was amazing!
I also love the Adirondacks, but I like to close out the summer with a beach vacation.

ETA, I would also suggest the Jersey Shore but in all honestly I'm not sure what condition it is in. We would be going there over Labor Day (you can get some good deals for the weekend at hotels) but we are going to WDW this year.

It really varies along the coast. Northern points were harder hit. Ocean City & south of there did ok. Long Beach Island & north were hit pretty hard. Dh isn't a big beach person so we only go for day trips. We'll be visiting our usual, Island Beach State Park next weekend so I'll report back how it looks.

Please do! My friend's parents are there now in Seaside Park but I havent talked to my friend to see if she has been in contact with them. I know the hotel we stay at (Spray Beach Inn) emailed me in the spring saying they would be open on schedule, but wondering how the area is around it.

Sorry for the hi-jack OP :flower3:

Hershey park is awesome - while the Hershey Hotel & Spa is gorgeous (and very very pricey) the Hershey Lodge is great, too.

We live in PA, but we rented a B&B in Stowe, VT and were married there- beautiful & VT has so many things to do. Our honeymoon was in Cape Elizabeth & Portland, ME- which were also wonderful.

Have fun with where ever you choose!

We were in Ocean City, NJ a few weeks ago and everything looked to be in good shape. My DD's roommate lives in Brick, NJ and works at the beach there so everything appears to be ok as well in that are. That family also has a shore house at Seaside Heights and although I cannot make specific comments as to how the rebuilding is going there I do know they have been there a lot so far this summer as I have seen pics of them on the beach.

$1000 isn't going to go far in Truro.

My BIL/SIL were visiting my inlaws three week's ago and stated that they had never seen Island Beach State Park so clean. I was surprised as earlier in the season, my FIL remarked that as much debris as they were pulling out in the area, more debris kept turning up. I can't wait to hear what you report as we'll be there in a few weeks.

Isnt the OP planning on a weekend trip? That is doable for $1000, there are motels in that area for as little as $130 per night. The beach is almost free :)

So we were blessed with a small windfall of cash. We have alotted for the things we should and would like to take a small trip for our family of 4. DD and DS are 17 and 19. We would like to keep our total expense to $1000.00 We could go the end of August or Labor Day weekend.
Any ideas? We live 1 hour outside of Boston and would like to be able to drive to our destination to maximize our $$$ We need something to do. I would be content sitting poolside somewhere but not the kids.
Looking forward to your suggestions!

How about going to the Bay of Fundy? Or drive up to Mount Washington?

My niece just graduated from Dartmouth this past June and unfortunately it rained the whole darn time we were there except for graduation day. We were planning to do the Mt. Washington drive but the weather would not co-operate.

We have spent a lot of time in NH, VT and Maine over the past 4 years. There is so much to see and do right around the school if you want to make that area your base camp.

My second choice is to hit every lobster shack on the coast of Maine!

I cooked lobster yesterday and it does NOT taste as good as eating it at The Lobster Shack on Cape Elizabeth. :rotfl:
