North To Alaska--May 3, 2011 on the Disney Wonder

I am new to this thread, have some catching up I see. DH & I are looking forward to this cruise.

Hey fellow cruisers...I have been lurking on this thread for what seems like forever...just reading to keep up but not posting anything because work and life are crazy right now....and we're in crunch time prep mode for our big Med/WBTA Med cruise (we leave in just 17 days!!)...and the thread for the WBTA is crazy (seriously like 50 pages a day...it's nearly impossible to keep up). Anyhow....thought I shoudl at least post a hello here to all our former and future cruise friends so you all know we're still alive and still coming....and we'll be here more often once we get back in October! :thumbsup2

Erik and Jason - it will SO GOOD to see you again, it has been forever! Have a great cruise!

Have a great day all!

Has anyone booked a return flight from Vancouver for the day we disembark? I am looking at an 11AM flight, wondering if I can make it to the airport in time if I take a taxi. Alex

Alex, when I called to DCL to ask about return flights on the day we disembark, I was advised not to book anything that departs before noon. The CM I spoke to advised that you should always give yourself a "buffer" in case it takes longer for the ship to clear customs when it returns to Vancouver.

Also, another thing to consider is where you will be clearing US customs, whether at your home airport when you land or if you will clear US customs in Vancouver before boarding your flight. For our flight from Toronto to LAX we have been advised to be at the airport at least 3 hours before our flight, if not earlier because we will be clearing US customs in Toronto. Luckily for us, our return flight home from Vancouver will be a domestic flight so no customs for us.

Another couple things to remember. Ours will be the first Disney cruise fully disembarking in Vancouver (the repo will be the first but a lot of us are staying onboard). They will also have more luggage because many of us are doing back to back cruises. Disembarkation always took longer after the 14 or 15 night cruises we've been on because of the luggage issues and that was when we were in the US. On both PC cruises we didn't get off the ship until after 9 am and the ship didn't clear customs until well after 8 am either.

If you did decide to take an 11 am flight, I would talk to Guest Services onboard and make sure you are one of the people off first when the ship is cleared.

Good Morning Cruisers!

Alex and Carolyn - good luck with your return flight dilemma!

Have a great day all!

The airport in Vancouver is about a 30 minute taxi ride from the port, but in the mornings traffic is very very heavy in the city. I would be a little nervous of a 11am flight.

OK....we've created our blog page on which we intend to make regular posts during our upcoming Med and WBTA vacation (w/ pics)...any of our DIS friends here who want to follow our adventures can do so by visiting our blog at http://erikandjason2010.blogspot.com (I also put the link in my signature)

Hi fellow cruisers. I have not checked in much lately. We got an e-mail today from DCL confirming our Repo cruise not sure what that is all about. Did not get one on the Alaska cruise probably because we book through DVC.
Have a great labor day weekend. Hopefully Earl stays out in the Altantic.
We are about 75 miles from Virginia beach.
Sue

To all those on the east coast - stay safe - hope Earl stays way out to sea!

Enjoy your cruises! Sounds like fun!

Well we dodged the bullet from Earl in Virginia. Hopefully he is as kind traveling East into Cananda for all of our fellow cruisers in MA and Canada. Sue
