Ok so I'm a freshman now and I was wondering how many people actaully leave college after one semester and go somewhere else. Im still having fun but I just don't think living away from home is for me. Have you gone home or do you know a lot of people that go home? Just wondering because I feel so alone even though I know everyone goes through this.

Yes, it's totally normal! A lot of people end up switching colleges at some point during their freshman year because they find it wasn't a good fit for them...you gotta do what makes you happy, and if being closer to home is going to make you happy, then go for it :thumbsup2

what you are going thorough is normal. I whet to school 2hours away from home.

i'd say its perfectly normal!
my senior year of high school i worked in the registrar's office and i would say about half of the previous year's seniors who went out of town for college, requested transcripts to move back home for the second semester

Thanks so much for all your responses it just makes me feel better when i hear people say im not the only and one and when its not coming from my family.

Im about three hours away so its not bad and my parents are making every effort to make it better for me. I have been able to enjoy but i want to be able to make a decision knowing all the facts and not just worrying about my emotions. I dont want to make a mistake in deciding. I have made friends and im doing the clubs and stuff its just a matter of what i want to do in December when the time comes for me to decide. Thanks again though it really does help me!:grouphug:

I didn't go away to college because I knew it wasn't for me. I love NYC too much to move somewhere for 4 years, etc.

And I agree with everyone else. Do what makes you happy. But keep an open mind. It seems like you're doing that, but I'm just saying it to say it. It's pretty early in the semester.

I went away to college after High School not because I wanted to but because everyone else was. I felt obligated. Biggest mistake of my life, I hated it! I was home every weekend until the semester ended and I transferred out. At least we can both say we tried it and now we know.

I hope that whatever you decide, everything works out for you! It is tough living away from home for the first time. I did things backwards though, I stayed at home for my first two years of college and moved out when I transferred to a school two hours away to finish my degree. It's been so weird, but it works for me. I still miss my family and friends back home a lot though, so it's nice to visit or have them visit me. And I'll be finished in May, and that thought makes it a bit easier.

Good luck with whatever you decide! :thumbsup2

You are absolutely not alone. My first year, I went to a school that was technically out of state, but like only 2.5 hrs away. I left after my first semester and came back closer to home. Sometimes its nice to be able to go home if you need to, since college is super stressful as its.

Then I changed my mind with what I wanted to major in and transferred once more. So I'm just finishing up my last year at college.

It just depends on you. I know some people just tell you to hold out and give it a try for another semester, but if you're really unhappy you need to find something to fix it. Otherwise it can really affect how you do in school.

Best of luck! :)

My first semester at college, I hated it. I went to a college that not many people from my high school did. I wanted to leave so much but my sister told me that I need to get involved in my school. So, I join a service sorority and a few other clubs. After that I started making so many friends and felt a connection to the school, which caused me not to go home as much.

Now I'm a senior and I wouldn't dream of being anywhere else!

Another NYCer! Woo!

Yeah, I went to school about a half hour away for a year, and lived there, but it ended up being too expensive and just not a right fit for me so I transferred after my first year. MOST of my friends in that school transferred out either after the first year or semester. It's incredibly common!
