NOOOO!!!!!!!!! Closing half of the AKL from now to who knows when

If it is really important to you to be at AKL and you won't be happy somewhere else, you should think about rescheduling.

We cant, it was the only time we could fit at this point, other then waiting till next year at this same point.

and we have friends going at the same time, makes it even harder.

If that's the case, I'll just say I really do love the Poly. Hopefully, you will feel the same after you stay there.

Kileybeth ~ At least you're still in the hotel you favor. :thumbsup2 We booked the cheapest room this time hoping to be upgraded. (last 2 times we went S. View) We were "upgraded"...right out of the hotel! lol!!

Cmbar ~ This phone call tonight was the first I heard of the "issues" @ AKL. I already said earlier that I tried to explain to them AKL was our choice and we didnt want elsewhere....that was not an option. We were told we could cancel our rez then. So there is no way for us to stay at AKL.
As far as construction noise....we already knew there might be some. They warn everybody of that upon booking the hotel to make sure you are aware and ok with it. If you went and were irritated because of noise thats your own fault because you were warned about the construction.
What do I want? I want, ideally, some kind of compensation for having to stay in a hotel that is not my choice. I dont care if its "more expensive" to stay at poly instead of AKL. Its not where I booked, its not where I enjoy myself, its not where I planned on staying for the past several months. It bothered me tonight that the lady on the phone made it as if she was doing me a favor for not charging me the price difference for moving me to Poly. Like I requested the move or something...... rediculous.

What really burns me is the fact that I JUST paid off the trip in full yesterday and nobody mentioned anything of any impending issues. Just "cant wait to see you in August!" :headache: :headache:

What confuses me more is that area is expected to be closed till sept 1. We're arriving late night on aug 31.... why are we being moved??? We're basically arriving the day they're supposed to reopen the area....... :confused: :confused: :confused:

Overall, Im sure we'll still have a good time. I mean our trip is not ruined or anything. This is just a low blow a month prior to arrival. I just cannot explain enough how much AKL makes our trip magical...and that was ripped away from us today. That is plenty to be aggrivated about....
 
That update with the Sept 1 date was from July 3. Maybe the dates are later now and that's why they are moving you??
 

Certainly if you don't want to move they can't force you, as the entire resort is not closing, I mean as AKL guests are being relocated; AKV guests are arriving to stay in the new villas at the same time. See if they will let you stay in an upgraded room there.

I just think Disney is trying to get ahead of the possible complaints that people will have due to the construction.

DVC members were warned when they booked, if you come during construction, basically they were told we don't want to hear any complaints.

So I think Disney resorts is trying to be proactive and move people before they get there and get upset.

If you wish to stay, then state that but be prepared to accept that lodge as it is, under construction.
 
We tried to say no, and they said theres nothing they can do. Why did you think we could say NO to them? Where did you hear that?

One lady insisted on saying NO and I think was able to stay. Maybe you can just insist they upgrade you to a room level that will be available (Savanah or something). I guess you just need to ask them if ANY guest are being allowed to stay. IF so, you want to be one of them. IF that is the case, I can't see why they wouldn't be able to keep you and bump someone else. That doesn't seem right, I think most people are taking the upgrades even though they are somewhat dissappointed, most are seeing an opportunity to stay where they wouldn't usually be able to afford. After all it would be a good excuse to go back.

Now if they are closing the whole place, then you really don't have a choice and then I would take the best upgrade you can get. Good Luck, I really do hope you get what will make your trip magical. Here is some pixie dust!:wizard:
 
Ok, for one, you and the person you agree with dont understand that we are being moved to a COMPLETELY Different resort, you get to stay at yours, and you chose your room, and you complain about not getting a free upgrade? LOL, you have to be kidding me. Dont worry, I will keep clear of the pools and restaurants for you, ok? Dont want to bug you while you stay at your choice resort.

You want a lot of sympathy for your resort nightmare (and I agree, its a nightmare and I feel very bad for you) but don't want to see the worries others have over how this nightmare is going to possibly complicate their vacation/resort stays as well. For the record, this poster wasn't nearly as cold as you make it out to be. So often on the dis, posts like yours suddenly turn into a nasty "you're lucky to be going, get over yourself" type thing which stinks. Don't do that to your own thread by being a bit nasty and sarcastic to somebody else. I think her worry over a cascade affect is just as valid as your own worry.

And to your original point, keep on them, keep going further up on the chain and tell them you are not moving. See how tough you can get and how they react to it. If the Poly doesn't appeal, what about another resort?

We Were TOLD about the noise when we booked this trip waaaaaaayyyyy back, we didnt care then, and we dont care now. I dont care if there are guys out side my window with jackhammers , while Im sleeping at 8am, vibrating on the bed from it. I want to stay there. I dont mind the animals being moved either. I could sit in front of the fire pit and just be the happiest person on the face of the earth.

If someone posts a thread about how they got into a huge car wreck on interstate 90 and had to rush there mom to the hospital , you wont see me posting about how that wreck made me late for dinner with a friend, do you? Its the same idea, I dont go to other peoples posts and complain about lesser things based off of there misfortune.

I just want this to be clear to people saying that everyone booking AKL knew about the construction.

Maybe you should offer to Pay for an upgrade to a DVC Villa or whatever room category that is available to stay. Your room category is not availabe for you stay. It stinks, we all feel sorry for you, but at this point, you are not the only person being bummped and it sounds like you simply cannot be pleased with anything less than AKL. I do hope you get to stay and someother person who sees that an upgrade worth thousands isn't something to be so ungrateful for.

I never meant to insult you, most of us were just trying to tell you that you are actually lucky to get an incredible upgrade when your resort of choice has had problems. I do believe that MOST people would not want to have the kind of vacation you described above. Good luck with your push to get what you want.

I can say, on your behalf , that If they didnt contact you some how, either a letter or by phone about this once they knew about it, then I would be more then as mad as I am now, esp with it being a honeymoon. I would flip out, seriously. Did you get moved too?

Whatever. Maybe sarcastic would have been a better description of your post (the one I quoted earlier that is). In any case I really do feel bad for you (and I know you don't want my sypmpathy but you have it anyway because by God this is a Disney board and we all love Disney for many specific reasons that are very important). They didn't even announce they were building the villas until very end of January. You may have made the ressies prior to this date. Also, they obviously weren't planning on shutting down a majority of the resort. Seems the construction is too disruptive to the guest because it is IN the buildings and therefore they were having a lot of guest ask to be moved. That is why they decided to shut down and work faster on completion. Either way they are going to upset some people.

Im sorry, but I believe I just said earlier that "Im sure we'll still have fun, but it sucks to get news like this so late". Neither of us said "akl or I cancel". Obviously I already moved us to Poly... so idk where you get your "you're simply not going to be pleased with anything less then akl".
I think saying we're ungrateful for being forced out of our hotel is rude, quite frankly. Have it happen to you..... see how thrilled you are after you paid a couple grand to be forced someplace you didnt choose. Like I said, any hotel chain making a change like this would do the same Disney is doing...upgrade you. Its nothing special that they are doing... they may think its better to switch you to a more expensive room in another hotel....but in Disney where everything is themed you're going to end up with alot of unhappy people when themes get changed so massively. Especially without much warning.
We dont have the $ on such short notice to pay for any upgrades....its a month prior to a trip.... I doubt many people would.

I think its pathetic that we have to defend ourself for being upset over losing our reservation at a hotel we booked months ago well knowing there was construction going on. Especially as we were assured we "may hear a little noise but it wouldnt affect us much".
Excuse us for not being thrilled tonight. We've had a bit of an upheave in our couple thousand dollar plans. Im sorry that isnt ok with you.......

I dont think you understand here. If you have your heart set on something, and you get something else that you dont like, how can you be greateful? Being grateful is being able to eat a meal every day, and have a roof over your head, and have a car to drive far away places. being grateful is having the ability to see, to walk to hear music.
When you pay 2-3k for a weeks vacation, and are told you cant stay where you want to, but you can stay over at a higher priced place that you DONT LIKE, your saying be grateful? Be grateful for what, paying for a place I dont like? :confused3 :confused: I really am serious when I say this, I am not being mean to you about this, this is something that really is quite obvious.

I think we all hope that you are grateful that you can still go to Disney. Happy that Disney is such a big thing with so many options that instead of having your money just refunded or being told to reschedule your reservation, you still have the option of taking the vacation that you spent so much time preparing. Yes, your venue has changed. Yes, your bed is in a different room, in a different building, in a different resort, in a different location, but it is still AT DISNEY. You are still able to take the vacation. If you are serious in paying for something you don't like, they you should just not go.

I realize you are underattack here, that you needed to vent, but you are defending your mad, bad, "I am upset and nothing can change the way I feel attitude." There are those of us that are also trying to make the best of being moved from AKL. There are those of us that booked the exact same room as you with a hopeful expectation of an upgrade within AKL. There are those of us that were in your situation that asked for what you were given and were told NO. There are those of us that are trying to make do with something less than what you were given, when what you were given is what would have helped us maintain the "I am so excited, I am looking so looking forward to my vacation" attitude" and yet we are struggling to make do with what we have been given...and your attitude rubs us wrong. And just incase I don't speak for anyone else, I will just say me. It's hard to read what you write because you do sound like you are headed to the vacation from H--L and you should just stay home. I don't understand why, when your feelings are so strong about the importance of the resort that you stay at, you aren't just getting your money back and not spending it on something that you don't like?:confused3
 
We dont cancel because as you said, it is still Disney and we will still have fun. Also this is the only time we can swing going with our schedules until August next year. We never said it was the vaca from h - e double hockey sticks....we just said we're missing our "magic" component now and were upset over it being taken away from us. Especially after just paying in full yesterday. Its a bit of a burn...We are just a bit shell shocked right now.
Also we didnt say nothing can change the way we feel....we said AKL makes our trip, and I felt slighted by the way I was treated on the phone.

I am sorry if we seem ungrateful. Nobody posting here said they were having the same issue and got lesser accommodations.....so I didnt think anybody would take offence.
